Zoom blind tasting #6: Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée (At home during circuit breaker): Very good indeed. One of the more overtly oak-influenced of the wines, there was a woody, spicy, oaky blast coming out of the glass on first nosing. I must say that this integrated fairly nicely with deeper notes of dark cherries and red berries and a bit of violet perfume that came alongside. Really quite nice actually. It was really solid on the palate. I really liked this here. Full and generous, it unfolded with an effortless sense of power and intensity, with black cherries and blueberries wed to a lovely mouthful of fragrant spice and brambly violets. In spite of its depth and sinew, it was also really nicely pure and energetic, with a lovely sense of poise and focus all the way into a long, full finish laced with more of that nice warm spiciness. Very good indeed, this was one of my favourites of the tasting. It will probably get a bit better with time too when it sheds it overt oakiness.

During a wine tasting dinner at 3-Star Michelin Restaurant Meadowood in Napa. Lisa Perotti-Brown MW picked this wine for the WA dinner with Robert Parker. Light ruby, expressive nose of cherry, raspberry, grape stalks. Light and elegant on the palate, tannins firm but very fine, will be softer in 2-3 years. This is an elegant wine from a lesser vintage but everyone loved it for exactly this. Went really well with this great dinner.

Knightsbridge 2011 Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Less reductive than most of the other Groffier cuvees tasted today, this has a good cross-section of ripe red and black fruit, spice hints throughout, firm middle to finish. Also good.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy/Champagne Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Starts with accessible, fun red fruit that I truly enjoy. More structure comes through from middle to finish, which may provide longevity, but might also stay rougher than I'd prefer.

Groffier Tasting, Mostly 2011s with Some Older Gems (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Tasting. Black and red cherry flavors and aromas. slightly more dense and firm than the Haut Doix, but not quite as elegant or balanced.
