  • this bottle while compared to the last one wasn't as fresh. nose had a lot of soy sauce and prunes. the taste is still good, heavy on acid, but less fruit in this one, making it just good.

  • The cork was dry and disintegrated. this has been stored in a store standing up for quite some time. I was definetely worried this was gone. I had to strain the cork bits out of it. The color is purple with some grainy elements. The nose is alive - good sign. The taste was truly awesome. So happy this wasn't gone. The fruit and acidity balanced each other perfectly. There are dusty elements here but there are some strong dark zin fruits going at the same time. A nice balance and a 9 year old winner! there is some bricking as well.

  • 16.4% alcohol. sonoma.

i was so enamored by the alexander zin from this vintage earlier this weekend, that i just couldn't resist opening a cousin. and, what do you know? the alcohol is even bigger in this wine. so, if i like this wine, and i reveal that it isn't throwing off any heat, or that it's fruit filled instead of pruny, will you all recant the comments about how i waited to drink my 2000 carlisle zins too long? sure you will.

there was a bit of VA on the initial nose that fortunately didn't hang around too long. it is a big boy, but in a rewarding way, and it went great with homemade pizza tonight. i liked the bold midpalate that was black fruit laden, and a finish that wasn't an alcoholic mess. i'm not ready to declare it on par with the 97 martinelli jackass hill, but a guy could do a helluva lot worse, and of course, i recently did.

  • More enjoyable than the prior bottle, but still not the experience that I am used to with a Carlisle Zin. This followed/accompanied an '01 Turley OV and that might not have been the best comparison. Will revisit the rest of the bottle over the next 48 hours to see if this opens up and loses some of the rough edges.

  • Very good Zin. Nice nose on opening; sharp breath of heat, but plenty of fruit underneath. Classic purple Zinfandel color. Mellowed over the course of two hours, but still plenty of fruit; thick and chewy. Second day (after 24 hours with a vac-u-vin cap): Nice peppery bite to start, again mellowing over an hour or so, but delicious throughout. Carlisle quality. Delightful.

  • Not sure of the provence of this bottle. Received it as a gift from someone that bought it online. I was a bit put off by the mid palatte holes and the nose was a bit astringent. Gave it an 89 based on past experience with Carlisle. If I were grading this bittle on its own blind, I'm sure the score would have been in the low 80's.
