It is time to drink this very fine cabernet sauvignon. Very well balanced and not over the top fruity, with an excellent mouth feel and long finish. Unfortunately it was a gift to me and the only bottle in my cave ... envious of those visionary enough to buy a case a decade ago.

Back in 2013 I first had the opportunity to try the 2011 Palermo from Orin Swift. We drank most of the 2011 Palermo when we got then, as I love a big, bold, spicy, tannic wine. As we are enjoying our last bottle today this has definitely mellowed. The wine is a rich deep purple, there is still some black pepper, espresso, with notes of floral and jasmine on the nose. The tannins have softened, but still bring a great pucker. There is dark fruit, cherry, slight smoke, and a finish of grape jelly. I still enjoy the wine, but don't know that it will last more than another 2-3 years.

Good value. 15.5% alcohol evident on nose and flavor. Don’t think that this wine will benefit with more aging. High alcohol level is masking some of the fruit.

This wine didn't seem to suffer the fate as some 2011's. Plenty of fruit to be had with firm tannins. Blackberry and black cherry on the palate. Long finish. Great value for the price. Can definitely go a few more years, but enjoyable now with food and a decant.

First night PnP, looking for a big fruity wine paired with Homeland: opened with unpleasant vegetal overtones, at which point I thought, "Oh no...". Blew off over the first hour and became really pleasant, typical Phinney style. Second night: barely showing 24 hr oxygen exposure, still smooth and fruity. Would not necessarily have guessed it a cab as still heavily extracted, but with a little more structure. Will enjoy trying the 2012.

Nice complexity. The nose is brimming with notes of beef, mushroom, hints of spice and lots of dark fruits. A very nice effort from Dave Phinney that will continue to evolve with time. Make sure you decant to maximize the pleasure!

Big, bold fruit-forward. Comes in a little hot at 15.5. Needs some bottle time to settle down. Ripe black fruit followed by some graphite on the finish. Shows potential. Drink 2015-2021.

Deep purple color. Nose of black fruits & cherry. Notes of red cherry, bramble fruits, oak, spice box & leather. This was a pop-n-pour, and it was a little sharp with the first glass. Put away until Day 2, when things were much more integrated. Fruit actually fuller this time. Alcohol slightly on the high side, but a really nice wine. Drink now or hold for another tear or two.

Very nice cabernet. Nose was very different - eucalyptus, wet grass clippings, almost barnyard. Would have never guessed it was a cabernet based wine just from the the nose. Dark in color, with deep blue fruits. Soft, balanced tannins and a long finish. Very nice wine, and continued to improve for an hour.

I've enjoyed Orin Swift wines in the past...really! But in the last 2 years somehow the wines have changed (or me). I have many wines with 14-16% alcohol and normally i love it. But most of the Palermo (and Saldo) bottles have to much heat. I hope that time will help...but i'm not sure.
With a lot of air...90pts.

This Napa Cabernet is an opaque, inky, purple black color; even the rim is deep purple. Initially, this wine was very closed and the heat from the alcohol was overwhelming. After decanting and swirling, aromas of dark berries, cherries, tobacco, violets, and cedar developed. The wine is robust and masculine, with layers of dark cherries, blackberries, plums, and black currents. There are also tastes of leather, vanilla, and wood. It is very flavorful, rich, complex, and mouth-coating. Overall, medium to full bodied with a long finish and fine tannins.
This wine is one of my favorites at $36, and probably a better buy than the more expensive Papillon.
Deep dark red in color with high viscosity and high concentration. Bright/day bright reflections. Rich French oak scents with aromas of cedar and vanilla. Currant, cherry and plum mingle with notes of mocha, bay leaf, chocolate cake and fig paste. On the palate voluptuous and rich with decadent flavors of dark cherries, devils food cake, cassis, vanilla, roses, oak and a nice subtle spice in the back. Balanced and drinking very well. The mid palate density is moderate+ and the finish is moderate in intensity and length lingering on complex flavors of currant, graphite, and pepper. Overall a good balance of what I like best in the two previous vintages combining the fruit and structure of the two. needs a fair bit of air to shine!

Beautiful deep dark red color. Nose initially tight and green but with developing cassis and sweet wood. Not as pure cassis as some other blockbuster Cali cabs, this has a relatively complex fruit profile. Medium acid, medium dusty tannins, ultra-high alcohol (15.5%), this suffers from its excessive alcohol content which is not quite matched by the fruit, making the back end of the palate feel quite empty and hot. Best after 1 hour in decanter, at which point it is fragrant, sweet, round and powerful. But this then starts to fall apart with more time. A nice wine but, just like the Papillon, it has too much oomph (alcohol) and not enough aaaah (fruit and structure). Not clear that time will resolve this. $40. 15.5%

PnP, definitely tight for 30-45 minutes but once it opened up, a real butt-kicking wine. Massive, juicy, great balance between vanilla oak and tannins. Might like better than Papillon... look forward to doing them side by side someday.

A beautiful everyday drinker that has enough body to stand up to steaks perfectly. This wine can handle the fat of a rib-eye without hesitation. There is no lack of body in this wine, and it can easily last the next few years. Great job Orin Swift, keep up the good work.

Very deep purple in the glass. Dense red berry flavors supported the 15.5% alcohol. I'm an Orin Swift fan, but Palmero falls short on complexity and finish. This is easy to drink but its quality does not support the $50 price tag.

Can't keep my hands of this one.. Trying to reserve a few for Fall and winter, but drinking really well now... Same as prior TN's. This bottling gives you what you're looking for in a $50 Napa Cab, for lower price point. It's great with Steak and other grilled fare. Little heat on the mid-palate, but the fruit compete's well here and the tannins are mild. Nice bottle from Orin Swift.

Really solid 90 pt wine. Extremely young and it will benefit from 3-5 yrs of cellaring. I'm not sure how it would hold up for the long haul but it should be great in a couple yrs. I did not decant this and I'm glad I didn't. The initial nose was black cherry & blueberry. Some notes of fig & plum as well followed by a little oak & vanilla. The initial taste was great as it was very fruit forward with some tannins. The tannins were not overpowered and the acidity was right on. Nice structure and balance. Then after about 2hrs It started to become flabby and disjointed. Still a nice bottle for the price and something I'd drink in a few yrs but probably not cellar for a decade. Just my 2 cents.

This was better than expected for being so young. Gave this a 60 minute decant, and was already very good.
Solid fruit and flavors that are already fairly well integrated. Sweet cherry, blueberry, slight vanilla and mocha with smooth tannins. Fruit was not overbearing, but was very solid. Didn't expect this from something this young.
Had with marinated sirloin tips, chicken and grilled vegetables on the grill - Combo worked great with a flavorful steak.
A nice wine, from what is expected to be a bad vintage (2011).
This should get even better with time. Got this for a good price and will definitely pick up some more of this.
Interested in how it will age - has good potential.

For being this young, it's drinking well. Don't get me wrong...it will be awesome in 2 yrs. Mocha, coffee, hint of vanilla. Lots of fruit wt cherry being prominent. This will be a 94-96 pt wine in 2 yrs. It's that good.

I really enjoyed this, again... been showing up on alot of shelves. I was told this is declassified fruit from Mercury Head and Papillion, as there was not enough quality fruit in this vintage to put in those bottles. Makes this a very solid quality bottle for this price point. Have kept a few more for storage until fall. Real good Blue and blackberry fruit. Dusty cocoa finish, but very lush on the front end. I think the score will improve with a little bottle age. Real nice Red.

For such a young cab, it is lively with a solid nose. Good fruit on the front and some earthiness and dark choco notes in the midpalate but the flavors lack a bit of depth at this young age. I think its got decent structure to improve with 1 - 3 years. 91 but i think it can go higher. -S

Strong oak at this young age but doesn't feel disjointed. Would be great pairing with a hearty cut of steak. Floral aroma belies the fruit which is first on the palate. Short dry finish which leaves you wanting more. Will purchase more for grilled ribeye and also to store for integration. Expect score to rise to 92-93 over next 2 years. Another winner from Orin Swift.

Big alcohol. Big color. Big extraction. Yet it never feels like a big wine. Super smooth and oaky. There is a sweetness to the fruit that is almost portlike. Finish feels a touch hollow.

PNP. Color dark purplish garnet. Nose dark fruit that takes on a waxy character with air. Swishing shows this to be lashed with oak and dense tannin. Sipping shows good marriage of the fruit density with the oak, but the oak dominates my palate. Super young and hopefully oak will integrate more with time

Deep red color with purple hues. Clear with a thick ridge after the swirl set by moderate plus viscosity allows the thick legs to cling to the glass. Aromas present with violets, decadent dark fruits of blackberry, plum and cassis with cedar and vanilla upfront. Ancillary aromas weave in strong espresso beans notes, pencil shavings, earth and herbs. Decanted an hour+. Upon entry rich blackberry flavors envelop the front palate with flavors of plum and currant that are woven tightly with violets and pull through to the dense mid palate where notes of mocha, cedar, thyme, earth and mineral that lingers through the long finish. The texture is supple and full, with bright acidity and polished tannins. Should age well and yet another vintage in line with previous bottling.

Popped and poured at a steakhouse last night. I have never seen a bottle of wine win the evening like that. 7 people tasted it and all loved it. The GM of the restaurant is having me get him 6 bottles. My wife who tolerates my wine habit is having me buy a case today.
Back to the wine. Beautiful color. Excellent nose. We opened the bottle and you could tell immediately by the aroma that permiated from the bottle that this was going to be real good. Very fruity, well balanced and the tannins gave it a great spine. It lingered on the palate for well over one minute. My only mistake was bringing one bottle last night and having to go to work this morning.....
Had a center cut cowboy ribeye Pittsburgh style and it was perfectly matched.
I dont normally dray on about a wine like this but if you have not given this a try please do so. I am going to put a bunch away and open it up over the next several years to see how this ages.

Deep, dar color. Red berries and fruit hit the nose. Tasted coffee, tobacco, smoke. Drink now in my opinion. Tasted at the Orin Swift offices.

Passable. Kinda boring. Lots of ripe plum and cherry notes.

Really liked the bottle and the wine left me wanting more! Would buy again, however I wish it was in the $20-25 range instead of $35-40. That said, the overall presentation is worth it.

AMAZING!
