Northern vs Southern Rhones (Brooklyn Wine Exchange (BWe)): Decanted for 6 hours. Dark deep color, nose of sweet dark cherries with hints leather and spice. The fruit is still very primary with sufficient density to balance fine tannins of this full bodied CnP. A lovely texture and long finish make this wine remarkably approachable for so a young a CnP.
Powerful nose of very ripe black cherries, sandalwood, leather, very warm feeling, roasted meat... taste of sweet strawberries, very envelopping wine, sexy wine, silky tannins, very long aftertaste... in the vein of the 2009 and 2010... but more fruity like the 2003!!
Visit to Domaine Pegau (Domain Pegau, Châteauneuf-du-Pape): (Barrel Sample). This is not for me. I'm wondering; is it a bad year for Pegau, a non-repersentative sample, or just not ready maturing yet? Nose is very confected, clean, and candied. Super ripe strawberries dominate. No funk at all. Palate comes across as sweet. I would be curious to retry one day.
Beautiful nose of ripe strawberries, bacon fat, black cherries.... in the mouth, very very nice strawberries and licorice, sweet tannins... Beautiful Pegau in the make, a bit below 2009 in concentration, but a bit more sweet and ripe fuit (95-97/100)
