When just opened, it tastes bitter; we will wait to see if it smooths out. I taste some fruit, but it seems darker than cherry or blackberry. It’s OK, but not exciting us.

Opened up nicely, bounteous and round, with lots of fruit. Not too subtle or nuanced, just nice drinking stuff that held up fine with a pot roast (beef).

Alamos is always reliable, and the Malbec always works for this price range. Juicy, ripe, full of dark berries, mocha and coffee but totally gluggable.

color: dark purple velvet; nose: faint earth and oak; taste: medium-bodied mouth feel, bright fruity taste with notes of cherry and red berries, medium-length finish with tannins tasting of peppers, anise, and tobacco; overall: simple, interesting if not quite luscious New World juice, very good QPR, food friendly (it paired well with proscuitto), would serve to casual guests.

Some good floral raspberry aroma on nose. But lack of power in the mouth. Some light blackberry taste. Slightly malbec classic bitterness at finish. Dilute body. Very simple. Not attractive to drink alone. OK to drink with food.

Disappointing. This used to be such a constantly good wine now it seems to be mediocre, or at least that seemed to be the case with this vintage. No longer interesting in color, nose or palate. A bit of a flinty nose and a dry and cola nut palate. Neither easy to drink nor inspiring.

bitter, full tannins, leathery and prolonged finish with a slight hint of vanilla. i think this wine just needs to age or to oxidize more for it to be enjoyable.

Beautiful nose flowers and fruits. Quite strong, concentrated fruits, long smooth finish once its been opened for awhile. Enough acid to stand up to food, fairly balanced.

nose: it smells pretty damn good for a cheap bottle. concentrated blackberries, cherries, plums, with a bit of charred wood [maybe a little too charred but hey]
palate: initially it's very good, mirroring the nose, but theres a weird bitter component on the back end. tannins are harsh and unappealing. finish is long but not very tasty
acidity is touch and go. it blasts, then hides behind the more prominent flavors. this wine is all over the place, not necessarily in a good way.

PnP, served slightly chilled. This was exactly what I hoped it would be. Fruit forward and easy drinking, with chocolate overtones, a touch of spice and some acidity on the finish. Paired surprisingly well with pasta and homemade red sauce. I would buy again for $8. A great "cellar defender".

I knew this was going to be a mistake. Against my better judgement, I think I could use some inexpensive mid-week wines. $6.99 on sale. Even though I am not a malbec fan, what the hell. I was hoping too cheap to be overoaked, hopefully it was steel, concrete, or neutral wood. That back of my mind was concerned about chips, powder, whatever monkey shines occur with these inexpensive mass-marketed wines that I never drink. Sure enough blueberry/black plum/vanilla milkshake mess... In the old days, buying a cheap wine guaranteed you were not going to get an oaky mess since no one could afford to use new barrels on cheap wine.

Cloves and cedar on the nose. Ripe red fruit and dark spices. Medium oaky finish. Was nice as immediately poured, more spice and a bit leathery after breathing, but still nice.

Slightly more polished than it used to be, and therefore less interesting, it's still a dependable Malbec that gives some hints of the possibilities of the grape. Peppery fruit, integrated oak, decent finish. Drink young

For the price, this wine is tremendous. Strong graphite, stone, lead overtones. Minimal fruit. A little unidimensional, but very tasty.
