Malbec has never been a go-to varietal for me: too subdued, too austere, too chewy. This didn't have much of a nose, and the wine was, well, Malbec-heavy. Presents as Old World meets South America, which makes sense, given the wine's pedigree. Solid, and comparable or better to some of the Languedoc-Rousillon Cot-dominant blends I've sampled. After a couple days an odd tertiary note, like an unfamiliar but strong spice, intrudes. Drink up; this is unlikely to improve.
Paired with grilled T-bone; with which it went okay, but not swimmingly.

Nice cork, have had bad luck with corks lately so my guard was up for a 2005. Deep dark fruits, nicely integrated with soft tannins. Definitely too much wood, but still enjoyable. Drink soon.

Drinking well now; smooth as butter with fully resolved tannins. Dark as night and fully opaque black coloring with ruby at the very edges. Aromas of dark fruits, dark chocolate, walnuts, and graphite. Bordeaux-like for sure. Smooth, plush, and round in the mouth, with medium body, acid, and finish, and largely consistent flavors. Worked well with our carnitas quesadillas, but a flank steak would be better.

Pop and pour. Aromas of dried plum, sweet cherry, melted chocolate and iron. Flavors of dried plums, iron, currant, black cherry and black olive. Ends with a black cherry and iron finish of 30 seconds. Based on the other comments I wasn’t sure what to expect but this is quite alive and quite good. Was stored well though.

Not sure about the lack of love for this wine. This was a pretty nice cabernet blend. Young enough and tannic enough to stand up to a seared steak with chimmichurri seasoning. No reason to keep further, this was carefuly aged and did well. Really.nice balance, complexity and length. Fine and complex, lovely currant finish.

This wine has aged remarkably well. Reminds me of petite sirah. The legs on this wine are long and slow. Dark fruit, black olive and raisins. An intense attack on the mid palate that evolves into a beautiful long finish. Not alot of acidity. A total shock and nice surprise. Didn’t particularly like this wine last time I had it.

Dark red with the nose dominated by heat and acidity. Very big - starts off a bit flabby but that seems to give way after about 2 hours. Tannins and acidity then dominate with little fruit showing. I personally find it a little all over the place - really not my wine at all.

My last bottle. Deep dark red look that has not changed over the years. Full bodied, medium to long length, with some oak, and dried fruits, a little cherry and "north african" spices in the end. Some tannins, and a comfortable feel in the mouth. Drink now or in the next 2-4 years.

No question this is new world stuff, with dark, dark color, a bit boozy with its dark cherry and plum flavors. There is also a bit of walnut and graphite beneath. Round, fat texture and rich finish. Not for everyone, but an interesting look at a wine from this area.

My 4th and last bottle. Served with grilled skirt steak and decanted for 1 hour. Dark reddish /purple color (no change in color over last several years). Blackberry, blackberry compote, charcoal, cedar on nose. On palate, medium body with similar flavor profile (blackberry, black cherry, cedar) to nose. Acidity balances the fruit & tannins are well integrated. Long finish. Should drink well for 5+ or longer years. 93-94 range which is relatively consistent with my prior notes on this wine.

Do the wine a favor and open the bottle 2 hours before drinking.
In the nose very intense. A fruit and spice explosion. In the mouth strong and powerful. Cherry and black currant. If your looking for a wine like a poet, this is the wrong place. It's more like a nasty rapper throwing you a lot of stuff in the face.
Perhaps it will get a little calmer and therefore better when reaching it's perfect drinking age.

Drinking through these 2 fast - decanted for 1 hour before enjoying with grilled skirt steak. This has continued to improve with bottle age and while full bodied, it has a nice silky palate feel with great fruit / acid / tannin balance - very difficult to pull of with ~15% alchohol as others have noted below. Flavor profile to similar tastings (last note was 3/2013 for me) with cedar & graphite noticeable on the nose. This is my favorite producer from Argentiana. 93-94 range today.

The wine is a deep, dark, maroon color. The deep and dark nose has blackberries, earthy underbrush, tree bark, warm baking spices, fresh ground dark roast coffee, smoke, plums, tobacco, and a touch of grilled meat. This has medium to full body, fairly solid tannins, and very nice acidity. The palate is dominated by spicy, earthy, dark fruit, with a bit of coffees and meaty elements coming in late. The finish has very nice length and leans more of the savory elements than the fruit. This is a powerful and intense wine that demands a piece of juicy meat.

Relatively consistent with my note from 3/2010. No signs of age in the color of the wine. On nose, dark chocolate, plum, tobacco & black cherry. Similar flavor profile on palate. Full body, but good acidity to go with a steak and the alchohol is not overbearing - a big, but balanced wine with a long finish and sweet tannins. "Delicious" and would buy again. 93+

Note after bottle was opened about 4 hours. Tasted at the wine store, so not a 100% accurate note. Deep, dark, ruby to purple color. Blackberries, cherries, licorice, smoke, dried herbs, and some earthiness on the nose. Medium to full body with solid, ripe tannins and good acidity. Rich and powerful on the palate. Long, spicy finish.

Popped and poured and enjoyed over several hours. Inky purple color, almost opaque. Nose of licorice and black cherry. Full-bodied. Flavors of black fruit, licorice and pencil shavings. Long, tannic finish. Pretty good now but would recommend decanting for a couple of hours. Easily has stuffing to last for 10-15 years.

The bottle was poured into a decanter using a Venturi and decanted for about 1 hour. Then it was poured into the glasses from the decanter through the Venturi so it got 2 Venturi pours. The wine was still highly tannic and dry. More time in the bottle would help or a longer decant. The wine was not as complex as i had hoped and I felt it was a let down. Overall, i was disappointed and was expecting more.

This wine showed its tannic structure to one degree or another over the course of several days. Creamy mocha fluffs up the dense melange of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, and fig. Right now this is tasty if a bit unhinged, but when it clicks it shows excellent potential. 90+?

Decanted for 1.5 hours (it needed more). Inky, black / purple color - does not show any signs of age. Oak (not overbearing), blackberry, currants & cigar box on the nose (quite aromatic). On the palate, a very full bodied mouthfeel with layers of blackberry, plum & tar that is balanced by rich acidity (this wine is excellent with steak) & mouth drying tannins. Much better with air. For $40.00 or under, very nice QPR. Should warrant a higher rating with bottle age.

Lush. This is a very opulent wine. Nose of red and purple fruits. spices, and cigarbox. The wine is young, but not nearly as primary as some notes would indicate. Oak is certainly present early on, but this is great to drink over a day or two. I agree with the producer that this is very French. Nice balance of New World richness and French restraint. A great wine to drink over the next three years.

I would disagree that this is clearly French. It lacks the elegance or lift. It is big and in your face at this point, and overly dominated by the syrah. Needs a lot of time in the bottle. It has structure to age and hopefully the jammy fruit will recede enough to achieve balance. Heavy handed at this point.

taste: big, rich, and full bodied tones of black cherries, blackberries, some oak tones and a whole lot of anise. Very expressive and big tannins persist
overall: I had this wine at the end of a long afternoon/evening, so it was hard to take good notes at that point. This was also a pop n pour, so I have no doubt that a bit of time in a decanter would've benefitted this, but this was really good stuff. I'd love to get my hands on this and let it age a bit to see where it goes

This wine is extraordinary. When you first open it you realize its potential almost immediately... but you realize it is tight and needs to breath. After a 2-3 hour decant it evolves into a very rich, perfectly balanced wine that would fool you into thinking this is an expensive Bordeaux. The style is definately French...most likely due to the influance of one of its renowned owners Ch. Leoville Poyferre and consultant Michel Roland. This wine is very well balanced and sophisticated. While decanting it's perfume is compelling and apparant in the vicinity. While it is young...I can imagine what this will be like after a few years in the cellar. I would highly recommend this wine.

Interesting wine. At first approach I was turned off by the huge amount of alcohol and extraction. The wine is lush and full bodied, it coats the glass like oil. As the wine sat in the decanter it gained depth and really showed its potential. The wine is complex and tastes like a young, huge St Emilion. I tend to prefer more traditional style Bordeaux blend, but nevertheless the wine is very impressive. Will probably get better as the wine settles down a bit, but its lovely right now.

South American Wines (Rios de Sudamerica): Tight nose hints at an earth and dark fruit profile. Palate is very rich and concentrated. Full blown tannins jump out on the mid-palate and compact the finish. All raw materials at this stage and not yet developed / integrated --- but very promising. 92+

Pinot Smackdown 2009 (Barrington IL, Wally's house): nose: very deep and expressive nose filled with black cherries, smoke, blackberries, bits of oak, and some anise
taste: big, rich, and full bodied tones of black cherries, blackberries, some oak tones and a whole lot of anise.

Big, Rich, and long. Coming together very nicely. Reminds me of a good Priorat.

Will probably get better as the wine settles down a bit, but its lovely right now.

extremely tight... all structure and little to no fruit... hopefully some time laying down will allow to develop and mellow
