Sturdy, solid New World Chardonnay. Good fruit, good oak, good acidity, good flavours, good balance, good everything. Not particularly exciting but good for what it is and good QPR. In case you wondered: good.

{screwcap, 13%} A year on from winning the 'Best Premium White Wine' at the Sydney show and how does this stack up? Ehh, not so well. Sure, the flavours are enticing enough, with nectarine and cashew flavours, and a gentle lick of sandalwood oak. And it still hovers around medium-bodied, but the acidity is well and truly on the retreat now, managing a bit of fizz at the end of the fairly short finish, but not really lifting this to any great level. A bargain wine by any standard, but ready to drink now.

Star-bright pale white golden colour; clean nose, very good typicity, cool, good fruit (grapefruit, green melon, peach, lime zest), hint of oak; on the palate a nice peachy creaminess, cool minerality, relatively soft acidity, easy and attractive, very competent but little to elicit real excitement; relatively light finish, goodish length.

{screwcap, 13%, A$14} So, away from the excitement of wine-show trophy-winning lunches, how does this stack up? Pale straw in colour. It has aromas of stone- and grapefruits, but still manages a hint of peaches and cream sweetness that the price-point hints at. But the lashings of vanilla of yore are long gone. The palate has a pleasant combination of mild acid, fairly dry texture, stoney but quite generous fruit flavours, and only the barest hint of oak. It's quite nicely judged overall, but the finish only just qualifies as medium-length, and the whole package remains fairly one-dimensional. Great wine for the price, and pretty food-friendly, but not so interesting for the enthusiast.

2013 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting & Trophy Wines Lunch (homebush & Darling Harbour): [Trophy – Best 2012 vintage Premium White] {screwcap, 13%} A pretty tidy cool-climate chardonnay; nutty oak, fresh stone fruit flavours; authentic without being bolstered by too much sugar or oak; a medium wine all round (weight, length, acid), but very much a drink now proposition.
