Just ripe enough and not overly so, a bit of reduction still present. Lovely subtle berry flavors and developing secondary characteristics. A good counterpart to the 96 RSV and Ursules it paired against.

color was nice light red , nose was not over top pinot , wine was very mellow and not harsh like some older cali pinot that are not fruit bombs , liked this better than many 2002 WS wines , drink up if u have any think this is in a good place right now for what it is .

Nose of baking spices, barely-stewed dark red fruit, and hint of toasted coconut; medium-body, medium-acid, light tannins, medium finish. Still has some life left. Paired well with seared scallops with gremolata, parsley-driven tabouleh with preserved lemons, and asparagus.

Agree with BailliSacks on not being the best guide to this style of pinot. Definitely getting petrol on the nose, which isnt my favorite. In fairness though, it is balanced and has a complex long finish. I much preferred the allen vineyard over this.

14.3% alcohol. gave this another go tonight, my second and last bottle, and the previous 87 would be a magnanimous score. frankly, this was terrible. both jane and i had a hard time staying with it over two hours. ultimately, not much consumed. it's a muddled mess of over ripe, goopy fruit, oak and not enough acid. but other than that...

Complex, fresh aromas of cranberry, raspberry, pronouced pine neddle, a little sweat, white peppery spice, floral, a little grilled meat, blood orange. The freshness continues on to palate with a smooth milkiness, red berry, spicy lavender, with the grilled meat and pine neddle hitting on the back. Good length on the finish with a distinct char and finishing notes of spice and menthol. In a good spot and the best of my recent '02 W&S Pinot. Drink now.

Opened and decanted 30 minutes. Had a hint of tar/petrol in a really good way along with notes of sandalwood and spice that did it for me. The remaining fruit is nicely over shadowed by the flavors of the secondary maturation.

Less sweet than several newer w-s drink recently, but still sweeter than I can really like. I seem to be off w-s for the time being. Compared to my memory of the same wine drunk in 2007, this has darkened slightly, lost just a bit of acidity and gained a touch of rotting berry. Not an improvement on the whole. I see no reason not to drink up, but at this point I may not ne your best guide to this style of pinot.

this opened up nicely with some red and black licorice dominating the underlying spices, but it fell apart after 90 minutes, disappearing inyo a goopy sludge.

Second bottle in a row - way too ripe, way too alcoholic. Had 3 bottles last night at a function of 02 Allen, - same thing. I am getting rid of the rest of my 02's and 03's - I can't believe 03's will be any less so. Can't believe this is W/S pinot.

Perfect drinking period. All has now come into balance. This wine is not a knockout, but a very solid player in the WS portfolio.
i have to edit this note. After an hour of bieng open, this wine went from bright red fruits on the nose and palate, to the soil, dark side of pinot. But, that was not a negative. The wine smoothed out, and the finish lengthened. It was served with an asian prep of fresh snapper with a sauce of soy, mushrooms, and sesame oil, along with other ingredients, that made the wine sing, much to my surprise. It was a hit.

Wine Tribe (Chateau Pat!): Nose very restrained, citric quality, with some "SweeTarts" notes (for lack of a better way to put it), then some smokiness. Plate has lean red fruit, and seems out of balance; doesn't seem like the bit of red fruit that's there will last. Disappointing, and I wonder if something is wrong with this bottle.

Beautiful! Instense and vibrant strawberry and cinimmon. Very long finish. Velvety too. Great nose. Drinks well but we decanted and could have opened it 4 hours earlier for more complexity. Probably best in 1-2 years.

Wonderful nose of crushed red berry, cola, pomegranate, campfire ash and orange zest. The palate shows more bright red fruits and a white rock note but lacks a little weight and breadth. The zesty acidity really shows on the finish, muffling the fruit. After being open for a couple of hours there was a hint of black fruit and a lusher mouthfeel. Good but not great. I think only the best single vineyards can handle the heavy-handed W&S acidification.

Slightly cloudy bright raspberry red PN color. Super concentrated raspberry nose. Fruit on palate followed by mineral/slate note, then long tannic finish. Some cola flavors. Super fruity, but well balanced by the strong sharp tannins. Very clearly new world, but with direct similarity to red-fruited Burgundies. Awesome.

Excellent wine. Poured directly into glass - was very closed until after 60+ minutes. Then it came alive - smooth, well-balanced, and hitting all the right RRV notes. May improve with age, but drinking beautifully now (provided it gets some air first).

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chicago, IL): Tasted double blind. (Don't know provenance.) Terribly disappointing, very advanced for this producer at this age. Too ripe, too fat, too tired.

Balanced and nuanced wine with wonderful black fruit and spice notes. Mature, but should hold for a few more years.
