  • Medium-dark crimon color; opaque. Popped and poured, this was extrmely restrained- almost no smell, with a tightly constricted palate. I feared this was a dud, but an hour of decanting made all the difference. The nose took on an intense herbaceous bouquet of fennell, thyme, licorice, cocoa and oily shoe leather. Though the palate never really attained the density of flavor indicated by the aromatic profile, this nonetheless broadened out a bit and shed some of its taut binding. A pleasure to drink (especially if you have a glass large enough to stick your entire head into) but definitely requires aeration in advance.
