  • Cork was wasted, decanted thru a wine filter. Still very nice for such an older wine. Was 1991 a mediocre vintage? Perhaps, but the Bruniers did a fine job. Drink up.

  • Well oh my oh my where do we start with this beauty. So translucent you could be convinced it's burgundy from appearance. Beautiful nose of garrigue and red fruits. Gorgeous velvet palate. Delicious. Decanted for 15 minutes and was best in the first 15 minutes after that but held for 1 hour as we enjoyed our mains at Churchill's. I had rack of lamb and it was an amazing pairing!!

  • Drank blind with TC. Dusty, unfiltered medium garnet with no bricking. I went down an Italian Nebbiolo path with this and then switched to brunello due to mid palate sweetness that was very much in tact.

Wonderful 29 year old cdp. I hope he has more!

  • 1991 DOMAINE du VIEUX TELEGRAPHE CHATEAUNEUF du PAPE- this was perfectly balanced and so giving; still youthful, vibrant and expressive, it had wondrous wild red cherry/ berry with hints of cranberry, blueberry and plum; the texture was soft and velvety, it had a medium body and everything came together for a grand climax just past mid palate; immensely pleasing.

  • This took a few hours to open up. Initially very closed nose and bitter but then when it did flesh out, O Wow!

Cork was in ideal condition, felt fresh and indistinguishable from a new cork.

Noticeably light body in the glass with some maroon age indicating color but no considerable bricking.

Nose of dried lavender blossoms and strawberry seeds. There was a strong undercurrent of rusty iron gate. Sometimes lead describes a bloodiness but not here, this was oxidized iron (III).

Initially pretty simple on the palate with a still slightly bitter finish. But after 3 hours of air some really fleshy cherry notes emerged. Almost candied cherry but rather subtle. On the finish, the structure of the Syrah and Mouvedre really shows but also the coolness of the vintage with just a hint of stems. I don't know if that's the whole cluster Grenache or the under ripe Syrah/Mouvedre

The nose evolved into caraway and other cool spices, then the wine really started to freshen up. The acidity picked up and flowers went from dried to fresh herbs, tarragon.

On day 2, no signs of fruit, just leather and garrique.

While a fascinating experience, the wine is in a funny place where the Grenache is in a transition phase and the "structure" grapes still have a bunch of structure. I'm going to hold at least one of my bottles for another 5 years and spread out the rest to see if the tannins soften a bit. Really glad I checked in, but no rush to open more. Maybe Parker is wrong about scoring this vintage a 65/100. ;)

  • Popped and poured. Classic light ruby with slight browning. On the nose a bit musty which blew off and then a bit restrained but classic VT funk and garrigue. On the palate medium weight with slight tannins on the finish but lovely texture which has smoothed out with time open. A treat to have discovered in the cellar and at or slightly beyond its peak of drinkability.

  • Wow. Deep, full bodied grenache. Touches of tobacco and dried cherries. Extended finish. Very balanced and great with food. Drank from magnum.
