From the oldest 1880s section of Geyserville. Nose is like herbal raspberry tea, cedar, cinnamon, leather, macerated berries. Palate nice sweet-tart acidity, good texture and persistence, gummy/herbal oversteeped tea, very clean and improving with air. My only complaint would be the rather linear character of the wine, still charming despite that.

From the label: ATP. 95% Zinfandel, 5% Petite Sirah. 13.7% alcohol. 30 barrels produced. Lots of color depth and variation: Deep, semi-vibrant cedar red/orange, mahogany-hued red. Nose of brambly red fruits, giving way to warm, cherry-infused shellac - sweetish and pleasant. At the half hour mark some volatile acidity that blows off after 15 minutes, then settles in to a rich, warm baked cobbler fragrance, wafting and strong. On the palate - cherries, creosote, cedar, leather, drying tannins, and well-integrated but still vibrant red fruits. The Zin fades, and then the mature Pet takes over. Iinteresting. There are lots of warm, alcohol, oaky tertiary notes, but all of them are in harmony. They shift around like a symphony, first this instrument, then the next. Very alive. A priviledge of a tasting experience. Certainly at or well past peak, but strong and vibrant, if sinewy, at this age. A 75 year-old marathon runner - kinda decrepit, but will still kick YOUR ass! Drink now, and savor every drop. Still good; shifting nuances when the last drop drained at the 2 hour mark. If I didn't already have such a respect for Paul Draper and older, well-crafted wines, I'd say this was a revelation. Instead, it's a confirmation! 93 pts technical aspects, 96 pts pleasure.
