So I, admittedly, was not bullish on most of the 2011 Bedrocks and drank through most of them much earlier than I would most vintages. I just didn't think there was any upside to most offerings, with the Bedrock/Bedrock being the one exception. That said....I'm pretty happy that I hung on to a few of these because this was great! Took a minute to open up (was a bit lean/ungiving at pnp) but it really fleshed out into a beautiful medium+ bodied mouthful of citrus-tinged purple fruits with a bit of a savory, tannic finish. Very structured and not quite as fruit forward as other vintages....but im getting that crazy orange-peel note that I love from this Vineyard more strongly than I can recall from any other year (LOVING that!). If the fruit can hang on, this should have a very long and pleasurable life ahead of it. Great stuff @bedrockmorgan and @underthewirewine !
Pnp, consumed with friends so it went very quickly. This was more advanced than I would have expected. It was nice and drank well with the tannins fully resolved but wish it had more fruit left.

This has turned out to be quite cellar worthy but I find the fruit a little less appealing now than a year ago: plum and cassis vs the blackberry and fruit de bois of its youth. Storage conditions may be a factor. I took this out of limited wine fridge storage a year ago.
Dark ruby with light translucency. White pepper, rosemary and bramble fruit nose. Silky palate of red fruits, light caramel and a hint of vanilla. Long integrated finish with smooth tannins. Beautiful now and probably has 5 years to go.

Restrained claret style Zin Blend. Very tasty but lacked the expected wow factor. The colour did not indicate a fading wine but if I had anymore I would be drinking up before the fruit fades even more.

One of the finest reds I've ever had. Just exceptional in every way and drinking perfectly in its ninth year. Blackberry, boysenberry, and lovely touches of roasted meat and spice. Fresh herbs and licorice in the finish. Silky tannins. Will treasure my last bottle. What a journey for this wine. It started strong but just gets better.

2011-- Complex, spicy Côte Rotie nose, dark fruits, mint, and licorice, dried cherry and fig, cocoa, lightly oaked. Good acidity in the mouth with a Big Bang, expanding intensity effect, medium long finish, a bit hot and baked at the end. Tannins are Bordeaux-like but moderate and tamed. I did not decant but recommend decanting for an hour at least. 92-93
2012 -- This is almost identical in profile to the 2011 but gets there more effortlessly. The dark berry, fruity, minty aromas are fresher. Easygoing and generous with a Napa Cab sensuality to it. Slightly more forward and minty, smoother, and weightier in the mouth, with a nice, refined dark chocolate finish. Double decanted. 94
2014 -- This needs another one to four years and was like drinking a great Syrah or Cab too early. The tannins are rich with a pronounced edge (but not fierce by any means). Bold notes of cedar, blackberry, cassis and licorice, with clove and cardamom. Tremendous sense of spice, substance, and extract, integrated well enough, albeit still en route to a more elegant expression. Double decanted 4 hours. 92-95
2016 -- One can taste the refined and complex 2011 lurking inside this lively animal, bursting with rich aromas and flavors. Like the 2014 there is loads of fruit and spice, but it already seems better integrated than the 2014. Still wait a few years. Double decanted 4 hours. 93-94
The 2012, 2014, and 2016 all seem built for 10 years. The 2011 seems in a peak drinking window now.
Decanted 30 minutes. I was pleased that this wine was not jammy or huge, which a lot of red Bedrock's have been for me. I'm not sure if it's the age or the vintage, but there was more minerality to this. Having said that, to me, this still doesn't compare to Carlisle, which have more interesting fruit and depth.

This was a wow bottle, caught it in such a great window. Depth and complexity, aroma kept getting better through the night. Deep scarlet coloring, very nice balance between fruit and other earthy notes. Half the bottle with red sauce Italian, and half the bottle sipped alongside good dark chocolate. Both worked, with the edge going to the savory dish. A standout among '11 zin-based wines I've opened. Think this was my last '11 in the cellar and what a way to finish. Very engaging, "intellectual". Only thing similar I can think of is some of the early Rossi Ranch bottlings from Carlisle that had the distinctive garrique/savory notes. The Bedrock was more subtle than that, and I really liked how that enhanced the red fruit elements of the wine. Excellent!
Drunk tonight in celebration of the birthday of a 7 year old, this wine showed echoes of Ridge Geyserville: rich, tarry, earthy, with plummy fruit and a sense of balance. The tannins are soft but the wine shows no sign of decline yet.

Drank in the vineyard (as one should). This one is starting to show its age, in a good way. Has come together - all the (many) threads of texture and flavor weaving into something seamless. Medium weight, balanced, still get the orange oil, lavender, tobacco notes I’m used to with this, but all much more “together”.

Gave this several hours of bottle air. Nice dark fruits around a vanilla core, occasional hints of spice, full bodied with medium acid & tannins make it fairly easy to drink. Appears in balance, but without structure to make me think it will improve--probably good for several years though.

The nose on the 2011 Heritage is amazingly layered and deep, showing a dusting of brown spices lifted by sweet violet pastilles, followed by dried black cherry, crushed blackberry, spiced orange, clove, hints of mint, rosemary and sage. On the palate, I found silky textures, with medium-bodied weight, as notes of spiced citrus, sour cherry, and spice washed across the senses, carried by zesty acidity. The finish was medium-long and spicy, with hints of blackberry and sweet herbs lingering. I went in expecting a big, large-scaled wine, but I found a wine that’s big on personality instead.

decanted 30 min. Bright purple with Ruby on edges. Nose of bramble, ripe raspberries, damp earth. Medium-body nice acidity and light & integrated tannins, boysenberry, harmonious. close eyes and you imagine fresh dark berries and grapes. Long Finish. Drink now with 2-4 years left.

Drank this at North Square in NYC at my annual Flyertalk wine dinner. My initial comment at first sip was 'Oh!' This is smooth and delicious. It was wine of the flight. Sorry, couldn't take any detailed notes. Drink and enjoy, or hold for another couple of years. Who says the 2011 vintage in California wasn't any good?? ;)

Pop-n-pour, initially subdued nose. This took about an hour to come around. When it did, silky mouthfeel with purple berry, orange blossom, mouth-watering acidity, and a kiss of French oak on the finish. Really nice.

Still really tight on pop and pour but gained complexity with air. Deep blue fruits and orange rind with significant tannins on the finish. Substantially better than a recent 11 bedrock Papera I had a few weeks ago, and actually needs more time in the bottle in my opinion......especially compared to the Papera which I felt like didn't have much upside.

Big, oaky and packs a tannic punch. A full throttled wine that needs more time in the bottle or an extensive decant. Soften a little after 3 hours, but could never get through the wall of tannins to experience the fruit. Will try again tomorrow after being opened over night.
Deep Purple color, beautiful nose, dark fruit, spice and medium to long finish. Decanted for an hour and continued to evolve in the glass for the next two hours. Drinking great right now.

Red fruit, oak dominated, and pepper on the PnP. It is simultaneously concentrated with showing lean red fruits over a savory undertow. Over a couple of hours it gained some nice nuances of licorice and herb as the oak thankfully faded. But this is still a muscular wine. Toothsome tannin. Day 2 it was fading. Have now with a moderate decant.

Very juicy. Somewhat monolithic, but very enjoyable as a bright, Zin based blend. Day 2. Seems tight. Maybe another few years will open this one up, but I'll never know, it was my last. Hold.

This wine is ok. It still seems a little out of balance with noticeable acidity. It has medium to full body, black fruit and a slight metallic taste. It has not improved since late 2014 IMHO. It is not our cup of tea.

Vivacious acidity and a lovely plum element. Fruit cake and flower shop, with all kinds of black fruit., then showing brambley raspberry. A long finish, with fine-grained tannins. I prefer the '13; however, what an enjoyable field blend on many levels. So seductive. Drink 2016 - 2023.

Poured through Vinturi and decanted approx. 2 hours (NOTE: quite a bit of sediment in this bottle) ... This is rich, but not over the top. Lush, deep purple with a heady, blueberry and plum nose that is reflected on the palate, but definitely shows a lighter touch than might be expected given the hugeness of the nose. A hint of perfume, and a strong tannic backbone and good acid pop, deftly balances the creamy notes. There's also some spice and just a hint of smoke. All in all, one of the better Bedrock Heritages I've had and just an all-around great wine.

Pours a nearly opaque black red. Raspberry, a bit of oak and a slight clove nose. Bramble and juicy red fruit on the palate with light spice and a hint of oak. Tannic with the red fruits standing out most now. Putting the rest of the bottle away for tomorrow. Day 2 update. Tannins have tamed. Very dark fruit oriented in comparison to yesterday. Much deeper and concentrated. I think this wine improves with cellar time, but a 24 hour slow ox decant would make it enjoyable today. Score is based on day 2. Day 1 would have been 89 ish. Went great with pizza on Day 2. Drink or hold.

I'm totally biased in favor of this wine. I lived a couple miles from the vineyard and saw these big nasty tree trunk vines growing these dark tiny berries. I rode my bike right by them maybe four times a week. Also, the protection and promotion of vines of this age deserves recognition. Strawberries mocha spice boysenberry blackcurrant. some heat and some tannin but I would enjoy this soon because it's the fruit you want here. This is America's heritage. Let's enjoy it.

Still a fantastic wine but the fruit notes have dialed back quite a bit on this bottle, not sure if that's typical with it's current age - but I liked the fruit a little more upfront on the earlier bottles we had opened.

Dark ruby color. Nose: boysenberry, blueberry, black cherry, and dried redcurrant with accents of mocha, tobacco, vanilla, black tea, dates, toasted mission fig, Sichuan peppercorn, wood/root spices, lavender, rosemary, and finocchiona. Medium/full body on the palate: dried black cherry and redcurrant, boysenberry, red plum, and huckleberry framed by tobacco, sage, lavender, rosemary, vanilla, black tea, licorice root, Sichuan peppercorn, and dusty crushed rock. Medium+ acidity. Moderate/firm tannins. Lingering berry skin, Provençal herbs, black tea, peppercorn, and dusty crushed rock on the long finish. Stunning complexity and class. Perfect balance and noble structure. Pair with charcuterie, herb-crusted lamb or pork, dry-rubbed BBQ ribs, chicken-andouille gumbo, or roast duck. Drink over the next 7-10 years

Have opened 2 or 3 of these and have been disappointed. Perhaps our expectations were higher based on previous years. We have really enjoyed previous vintages and bought a few additional bottles of 2011. The 2011's were drinkable, light to medium body with pleasant fruit but not that interesting. A little drier than I expected and I don't recall a long finish. Unlike other reviewers I did not sense a lot of tannin. I have one more bottle and will set it aside just in case it improves.

I don't drink much zin at all, and this took me by surprise. Blind, I'd probably call it a 2008 Charvin, or some other restrained CdP. Nice fruit as one would find in the southern Rhone, but enough acidity to balance it out. Brambles on the nose and palate, purple fruit throughout.
I like this much more than the 2011 Evangelho, which was over the top for my palate. This is restrained, complex, and delicious. Well done.

Lots of red fruit and acid. Noticeable amount of oak on the nose and palate (not used to that with Bedrock). Felt disjointed and in an awkward phase. Going with 90+ because there is a good chance it will come around and harmonize with time. Power without weight. Drink 2015+. 14.2% ABV
This has significantly improved over the last year. Dark ruby color with woodsy aromas. There is some attractive cool vintage earthy/herbaceousness along a bit of tart strawberry. Medium bodied with supple tannins. Keep aging it?

Do not PnP this wine. It really needs time to open up. When it does, it's intriguing and beautiful. It's clearly not ready to drink right now -- I'll wait another two years, I think, before opening my last bottle -- but I'm glad I tried it tonight.

This bottle was opened and partially consumed 2 days before I drank it. Day one it sat on the counter, day two in a cold car. Gobs of dark dry fruit without a speck of sweetness. The wine has it's fruit in France and it's roots in California. Don't take it to a party. Instead bring it to a Blind Tasting and let the fun begin. Very interesting and delicious.

Classic American Zin, great extraction and good acidity. Lots of tail oak, but kept in check with the fruit. With some age 3-4 years this could be much higher. Very nice.

Dark ruby red. Very nice and expressive aromatics. On the palate a bright thread of red raspberry running through a stream of blue and black fruit (not the first time I've noticed this delightful characteristic with the Bedrock Vineyard). Great now, but will be something really special in 4-8 years.

Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, complex nose showing dark red, blue, and black fruit, compote, spice, saddle leather, and minerals. Palate: Medium-plus bodied, sweet dark red and blue fruit attack, minerals and nice acid appear mid-palate to add balance, tobacco and rusty earth appear towards the back-end. Finish: Medium-plus length sense of luscious dark fruit and earthiness. With all the complexity this wine delivers I can see how Wine Spectator gave this a 95, though I'm not quite there.

Dark and deep purple in the glass. Even as strong as the fruit is, this wine might be a little closed at the moment. There is a real depth that a few more years should allow for this to really shine. Dark stewed and concentrated fruits are the predominant flavors. I'd wait a little before popping another

Drank over 2 nights. Night 1: tight, closed, delicate fragrant red fruits. Taste was very primary with a thick acidic core. By the end of the evening, starting to come around, more texture, rounder mouthful, and ripening fruit. Poured the wine from decanter back into bottle and corked for the next day. Night 2: much more black fruit profile, like a petite sirah, tar, Orange, black licorice, some sort of.red fruits, with a nice acidic and tannic backbone. This needs a few years to come together. If u must drink now, open the day before, pour into decanter, then back into the bottle till the next day. 92+++

This wine got a huge score in WS, so I was very happy to see it available by the glass in a restaurant this weekend. This is definitely young, and I will hold my bottles until 2015. Zinfandel is the primary varietal, but there is a great balance with the other varietals.

For being very very young and 14.2% alc, this is not a big/primary wine. Some subtle fruit, good acidity, and lingering tannins. I think with bigger fruit this would be an absolutely amazing wine, but it also might lose something. It is nice to see a relatively small wine, with good structure, in the Zin space and I'll be looking forward to trying this again in several years.

Lighter ruby color. Almost pinot-like weight and texture with forest floor aromas. Somewhat tart acidity in food-friendly style. Seemed like it should have had more substance to it. Less compelling than some other old vine cuvees.

Red fruit peeking out from the tightly wound core of the wine with hints of spices. This wine will need the most time of the quartet of Papera, Evangelho, Dolinsek, and Bedrock.

Dark ruby, very clear and clean; Rich, ripe, dark fruits jump out of the glass during initial pour with a bit of spice; taste of ripe, fresh dark fruit, rich but not jammy, some hint of the terroir and minerals; very clean finish; silky, soft tannins (French oak I believe), low to medium acid; medium finish.
Consumed over three days and all characteristics were present over that period. Third day the wine was really silky and smooth. Can't tell you when I've had a red blend comprised of so many varieties where not one single variety was overpowering or being too loud. Overall, a really great wine....which is my expectation from Morgan.

The 2011 Bedrock Heritage Wine comes from vines planted 123 years ago Sonoma Valley. It is a field-blend of 22 different varieties. Dominated by Zinfandel the remaining 40% of the wine is Carignane, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Syrah, Tempranillo, Trousseau, Mission, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and many others. It brings aromas and flavors of blackberries, cherry cobbler, fresh mineral, smoked meat, licorice and even violets to name a few. Dense and concentrated with polished tannins with a solid finish. This has lots of potential but needs some serious time to flesh out and come together, so patience will be required. (Best 2015-2022) - November, 2012 (JD)

Who says the 2011 vintage in California wasn't any good?? ;)

Palate: Medium-plus bodied, sweet dark red and blue fruit attack, minerals and nice acid appear mid-palate to add balance, tobacco and rusty earth appear towards the back-end. 92+++

Consumed over three days and all characteristics were present over that period. Third day the wine was really silky and smooth. Can't tell you when I've had a red blend comprised of so many varieties where not one single variety was overpowering or being too loud.
