This was the 3L bottle. It was fantastic. Decanted an hour and a half before dinner was served. Deep, dark garnet color. Great fruit aromas as I decanted. Dark fruits on the palate with nice balance. Had with a prime rib roast. Everyone enjoyed it. And we continued to enjoy as we sipped after dinner.

We waited too long for this one. It was flat and maybe a little tart. Not enjoyable from a winemaker who is normally very dependable. Not his fault (I don't think). I will try to drink the Mountain Selection Syrah wines within 3 to 4 years.

A lot of Wines at Tommy's Clambake (again again) (Tommy's): Someone gave this to me as a wine that had a lot of value to it and I might like it. A very nice gesture, but not so much a to liking it. I opened later in the night and no one had heard of it. We all poured a glass (about 6 of us), sipped and the race to the dump bucket was on. Bitter. Thin. Weak fruit. Not worth it at any price for me. Oh well, it was a nice gesture and I give that a few points. Each to their own.

Slightly translucent crimson. Raspberry jam, spices, and oak nose. Light to medium bodied, dirty cranberries, pepper, tangy cherries, tannins with a touch of bitterness, leather, and a brambly medium finish. Fairly complex yet easy drinking.

Aromas of black raspberry, mocha, black cherry, licorice and sweet spices ... Palate was also layered with blackberry, spiced-black cherry, black pepper, and anise. After an hour or so the wine became smoother and seemed silky while the wine changed its fruit/spice profile to cassis, blackberry, white pepper, a little coffee, and some gentle spice on the finish. I'd have to say I was quite happy with this bottle of Harvey Syrah, quite different from the past vintage I had, but still a delight for the senses.

Cherry and blueberry fruit, but there's much more. Some very pretty dried herbs and eucalyptus here make this a special wine. A bit of a dustiness too, and it makes you think this wine has more age than it does. Drinking beautifully, this is the best Mtn. Select Syrah vintage I've tasted so far. An absolute steal, this would hold up against wines 2-3 times its price. Decant for an hour or three and be rewarded. 90 pts.

Paired well with shepherd's pie. Great food wine but just as enjoyable on its own. Smooth and delicious, this wine has already hit its stride. No need to drink up but also no reason to hold. 90+

Strong nose of wet asphalt which then leads to blueberry, touch of raspberry. Intriguing! Palate: wet asphalt and blueberry, hints of raspberry, some dried herbs, solid acidity, & a hint of sweetness. I like it quite a bit! Scott's style is more old world and earthy, and i think that's why the ratings are a bit lower here; buying Cali but not getting a Cali new world flavor profile. This guy's the real deal, people. Another great effort. You should try his J&S / Winemaker Reserve line... Yum-my. 88+ pts.

It's okay. I went back to check and see whether I'd purchased other wines from this winery. Other than a recent red blend, it's a no. I love syrah, normally. This is drinkable, but I think I would stick to local wineries and the grocery store over this one. It's just not very complex. It also benefits from a long airing out; the vintage is recent, and it may help to cellar it a bit longer.

Consistent with my last note from 2.5 years ago, so that's something. Fruit is less primary now. It's in an interesting place now.

Decent syrah, needs a little time to open to smooth out the initial bitterness.
