11th of 12, opened 15 minutes, perfect level, soaked /half travelled cork, just off best like last bottle in 2017, more colour, edgier/less round, losing that extra umpf of a very top wine in a top vintage if with beguiling minerality, steel and lifting lemon bringing superb balance, but make no mistake this remains outstanding at 32 and a real poke in the eye for modern nostrums and wine making practice, no pox, no rush but probably no upside. F+ (18).

Chave Night (with some extras) (The Grunzweig Wine Room, Los Olivos): Craving acidity after 3 inspiring Chave whites, we were drawn to this mature Burg, but it disappointed in a way I can't quite put my finger on. It was not flawed, nor notably advanced, with fresh stone fruit and sweet perfume. No secondary characteristics. Unfortunately, the acidity was overpowering in this context, a characteristic which did not change as the wine warmed and was exposed to air. A bit puzzling to me...

Ridiculously youthful with lots of minerals, flint and citrus. Very non-cortoncharlie with elegance and precision. The minerality on the palate was particularly mesmerizing. To me, it was like a Chevalier Montrachet. A wine that can age for another 20 years. 93-94

Beautiful youthful medium yellow core. Tight nose with hints of apple, lemon and wet stones. Remarkably youthful palate as is marked with the vintages sharp acidity. Perfect balance, lovely energetic finish. This bottle was both youthful and mature if you know what I mean, a pleasure. Once again this bottle supports my belief that 1989 is the best white burgundy vintage in my four decades of drinking and collecting. Bravo

From a nice looking bottle with a 2.5 cm fill, this wine had a deep yellow/light gold center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose featured lemon tart, apples, minerals, and a hint of sweet butterscotch.
In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe pretty much right off the bat. It had lots of flavor, huge acidity, and awesome length.
My recollection is this bottle was more advanced than others I have had. It was certainly not going to be getting any better. However, even this bottle was excellent!

From an excellent looking bottle, this wine has a yellow center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose displayed lemon/lime, white stone, apple, and marzipan.
In the mouth, this wine was ripe but it was so balanced by acidity and mineral flavors that it came off as crisp. It got better and better with air. I would suggest a minimum of 5 hours in a decanter. The balance and length were outstanding.
This wine was just coming into its drinking window. It will easily stay at this level for 10+ years.

10th of 12, opened 15 minutes but not decanted, perfect cork and level, previous notes since 1999 mostly fine or better - still pale, youthful, leggy; attractive bouquet, hint of honeysuckle, strong lemon overtone with hint of stone, pure and fresh; medium, very long, persistent and concentrated, took some time to reveal complexity and tame the acid edge, remarkably youthful. VF (18.5)......needed an hour in the decanter and interesting how it has shed its lanolin puppy fat of a decade ago....the equally fine '90 currently has the edge! PS not a trace of POX!

I am not sure if the last bottle I had was a touch off or it did not get enough air. However, this excellent looking bottle tasted like a 92 point wine when first poured and got better from there.
This wine had a yellow center and clear rims. It looked quite young as Bonneau often does. This producer creates wines with incredible longevity. After 5+ hours of air the medium+ intensity nose showed apples, white stone, almond paste, and lemons.
In the mouth, this was refined (not fat) but had a huge flavor impact. The powdered mineral/marzipan finish lingered in your mouth for over a minute. This wine was quite crisp and clearly designed for food. It also had incredible balance that left you searching for which flavor element to list first.
This bottle was really just coming into its drinking window. It will easily last, and even improve, in the cellar for 10+ years. Outstanding!

Dinner at Bar Marta (Chicago, IL): I was excited the moment Marc threatened to bring this to dinner. At first, the nose seemed a little sketchy, but those somewhat odd odours blew off. Then it unfolded into a very ripe and full-bodied expression of chardonnay. Sure, there was a little bit of brown, but that's expected given the age here. Peachy, ripe, and powerful, just as Corton-Charlie ought to be.

Some of these older Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagnes seem like they can last forever, and this was one of those bottles. Very youthful in both appearance and taste, this started off with a zesty citrus streak that really characterized the wine. Over time, the wine picked up more weight and fleshy yellow fruit nicely complemented the acidity. Not as amazing as other vintages of this I’ve had, but still a very, very enjoyable wine.

Medium-light to light golden yellow in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of well developed & mature, complex, ripe citrus fruit aromas of lemon/lime, apples & peaches with mineral/stony & chalky overtones, floral notes of honeysuckle, spices, honey, earthy, butterscotch, vanilla & toasty oak. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, developed & mature, complex, unctuous, rich, ripe fruit flavors of green apples, lemons/limes, pear & yellow peaches with minerals, stony, baking spices, honey, a touch of vanilla & butterscotch. Long lingering with a crisp finish. Drinks quite well at present and although it may be at the peak of its development, it has the structure and fruit to hold into its current plateau for a few additional years longer.

Fading, or already faded, depending on your point of view. Hints of citrus and green apple remain, the texture is soft, but you really need to look hard to find the last vestages of fruit. Drink up.
Melvyn's 50th Birthday Bash (Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel): Wow. This was fantastic – it ran a great bottle of 2001 Chave Hermitage close as my favourite wine of the night. The beautifully subtle nose showed apple flesh and light cream aromas mixed with a panoply of minerally scents – chalk and limestone and seashell – and then a lifted spicy note and some almond nuts running underneath. Nice. There was a lovely, almost spare elegance to the palate – a world away from the oaky blockbusters that BDM Corton-Charlies can be in their youth. While there was a lovely depth and a full, generous sense of breadth to the wine, it was the effortless way that it carried its weight and the wonderful definition in its fleshy flavours of sweet apples and white melons underlined with chalky notes that really got me. There an almost feminine grace and elegance here. It ended in a long, long finish as well, with a lovely interplay of chalk and spice and bittersweet mineral notes. Phenomenal stuff and drinking quite beautifully on the night.

Pours out glistening with green hues. If it weren’t for a whiff of toast and a hint of mushroom development (and a lack of premox) this could be 20 years younger. It has some restrained exoticism coupled with preserved lemon, honeysuckle, mint and aniseed notes and an icy cool mineral spine. It has richness but is so linear and direct. The finish is laden with chalk and length extraordinary. One suspects that well stored bottles of this will be humming along beautifully in another quarter of a century.

Bonneau du Martray Visit and Tasting (Pernand-Vergelesses): Tasting at Domaine. Jean-Charles was such a gentleman to open a bottle from this great vintage, one I've enjoyed several times from Martray. This showed nutty aromatics with rich ripe fruit on the nose. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 18 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 94/100

Tasted blind, this wine had a yellow color with a moderate intensity nose of apples, limes, and some white stone. It was attractive and brisk but surprisingly lean in the mouth for a wine from a good year. In the mouth had nice balance and medium length. Did this wine get enough air? My guess is no.
This Corton should easily last 10 more years and go well with seafood. I am going to go out a limb here and say this wine is probably very good with 4-5 hours of decanter time. However, if you are looking for a super rich white Burg, this may not the bottle you want.

NOT SURE WHAT TO RATE THIS WINE. IT WAS VERY ONE-DIMENSIONAL , THIN ON THE PALATE , AND NOT VERY EXCITING. IT HADNT GONE BAD IT JUST WASNT SPECIAL BY ANY MEANS.

Brought to dinner party at Al H's. Frankly, I was very disappointed. There was little to no nose, the taste was very ordinary. This should have been a spectacular wine but alas it was a DUD! Did I hold it too long? I have one bottle left. I should try it soon.

Lemon, almond in the taste; very mouthfilling and thick in the mouth with a long finish and suprisingly still high acidity. Not as opulent as I had expected. Remined me more of a white Hermitage than a top Burgundy
