Sampled 12/20/11. Color is bricking and the wine is at end of its peak period. Plenty of fruit but not jammy and just a few green and slightly astringent notes take this wine down a notch.

Not a bad wine, but nowhere near what I thought I'd remembered. A bit less body, a bit less spice, a bit less of everything I thought I'd tasted several years ago with the Cardinal Zin. Maybe I got it confused with the Michael & David zins. Anyways, far from bad, and at $8 from Cost Plus on clearance, I do not feel cheated. But with the weak nose and lack of spice, I wouldn't pay full price for it, either.

Dark ruby in the glass. Aromas of pepper and berry. On palate, blackberry, blueberry, and low levels of spice with a distinctive peppery edge. Relatively low (13.8%) alc/vol. Not a plush zin, to be sure.

A California Zinfandel blend. When the distributor at the wine tasting described all the grapes that make up this one, I expected the results to be more interesting. A little too thin, but still drinkable as an all-purpose red, as long as the food's not too fancy or you're not trying to impress anyone.

This did not live up to my expectations. The wine did not seem to possess the fruit I come to think of when I drink zinfandel. The wine was hallow in the mid palate and just did not have much taste. It was lean and tart.

Jammy fruit-bomb. Delicious red raspberries and cherries. Decent finish. A bit simple and one-dimensional but certainly delicious. Crowd pleaser.

Fruity, but a little thin. The funky label promises a little bit more than the wine can deliver.

Good wine -- good body, fairly rich, very berry flavored.

Not bad, but not a great value for the price.

Disappointing, given Ralph Steadman's colorful description. An uninspiring, if unoffending wine. WAY overpriced at $20.

Chocolate & cherry. I like this style of Zin. Got it for about half price - $9.

Fruity at first and got a bit spicier when it aired out. Good everyday Zin.

Nice fruity dry wine. Love Steadmans labels but the wine is very good too.
