I would have guessed this as an older CdP. Some bricking noticeable, quite a bit of sediment, most of which filtered out with careful pouring thru a Vinturi.Glad to have 3 more

Cool, well structured, well balanced Gigondas with herbal notes, especially basil, licorice and pretty red fruit. Young at heart with no signs of heat, this is a tremendous wine, actually, southern, relaxed, notes of Provence. Genuine, vraiment Gigondas. Thank you.

Purchased at discount due to alleged bottle inconsistency so was apprehensive when opening but it was still intact. Needed time to open. Great nose but overall would choose Pallieres over this (would have said the opposite when it was younger).

Decanted 2 hrs prior to blind tasting, then re-bottled for event. Slight hint (to some tasters) of cork taint but still pleasing with food. Will try another bottle soon to see if this was just bottle variation.

Mainly Grenache with roughly equal parts of Syrah and Cinsault.
I have never been a fan of France's hot 2003 vintage in general. However, last couple of encounters have shaken my prejudice.
This Gigondas definitely drank like it was bathed in a long heatwave for sure with very low acidic structure, soft tannin, and dried stewy red fruit characters. However, it kept me interested with the enticing Southern Rhone unique profile of grilled gamey meat, iodine, green olive, dried mint and damp earth.
This wine will not hold any longer. It's on its last leg but what a journey! 91.

I second previous two reviews. Drinks beautifully right now. Not burnt or charred as vintage might suggest. Easy matches or outperform CdP of good producers. Will hold 3-6 years but will not get any better.

Four years since my last tasting of this Cayron and it was not decanted. This is a match for much more costly CdPs. I am continuously surprised by how well Cayron does, year after year, especially with time in the cellar. Glad to have 6 more cellared.

Rosalie"s wine at the tasting. Delightful, complex, drinking wonderfully. Blew away my Janasse (tasting was Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas) and easily ran with Vieux Telegraphe (2008 and 1998) and a young Pagau Cuvée Riservee. I try to buy this every year, it seems to ovrperperform consistently, and ages better than the CT drinking windows. This had plenty of time left.

Agree that it has typical barnyard aromas. Dried fruit on the palate. Very smooth, although it took about a half hour to open up and better with food. Definately on the lighter sigde of Gigondas.

Not overly deep in colour, with red hues moving to the fore and a little orange at the rim. The nose would divide opinion, but for me the barnyardy/medicinal aromas bring very attractive complexity. The redcurranty fruit is in good background support, along with a little aniseed.
Similar barnyard/medicinal influence on the palate, which has glycerine like softness betraying the alcohol. That softness fills out a what would otherwise have been unusually light bodied.
Really enjoyed this.

Poured through Vinturi directly into glass. Nose of red fruit with muted earth and barnyard notes. Palate also has pronounced earthy, brett-y notes but I'm also getting cherry pie here, as Brad L noted below. After a few hours, this became more open with brighter fruit. Very nice in any event; will store under vacuum tonight and try again tomorrow.

This may be getting close to maturity, so I may speed up consumption. Still very nice with typical Cayron barnyard and red fruit on the nose after aerating w/Vinturi and returning to bottle an hour prior to tasting event. Darker fruit and very smooth on the palate.

Garnet, definite browning too. Think this wine has tired itself out. Lacks body. Some dark fruits and a bit of savoury/Bovril meatiness. Reasonable acidity. Rather short. Possibly the vintage effect? It was ex-Wine Soc so storage unlikely to be the issue.

Clear medium garnet. Funk on the nose. Ketchup, or powdered tomato soup. Slight fizz on the palate. Tasted thin. Short body.
Basically disapponyinh.
However after 1/2 hr things are lookih up.
Still a bit ketupy on the nose bit less so. The taste ha mellowed. Still not great but strong undertones of good aged Rhone coming through. Earth fruit tobacco.
In conclusion. Interesting. Good with food. Not bad but probably a wine that should have been drunk in 2006.

Color - nice ruby with a light brick on the rim. Nose - Strawberries, Raspberries, Pruneux, garrigue undertones. Definite CNdP type nose Tasting - Red Fruits, strawberries, cherries, roasted fruit flavors. Nice mouthfeel. Tannins definitely need a few more years to integrate. Very long finish. Could pass for a nice CNdP in blind tasting.
Bottle has seepage, seems to be a problem with this wine.

An almost alien light purple color... with multivalent aromas of blood, iron, blood, ketchup, blood, and sage that are intoxicating. Fantastic minerality delivers tastes of blackberry, boysenberry, prune, and stewed tomato. The tannins are smooth but provide nice grip. This is so good it freaks me out; one of the more astonishing wines I've ever had and it makes me cry that I don't have more.

Pretty dissapointing. Pretty flabby fruit flavors, with not much body behind it. Kind of a cooked pruney taste that really stands out. This was the 2003 heat wave vintage, but hadn't noticed as much of this flabby fruit in other Southern Rhone.

Classic Cayron skank on nose. In mouth Cayron spritz, skank, sappy, meaty cherries. Cherry pie in the finish. Less angular but fuller bodied than the 2001, not in the same league as the 1999, but while medium to full bodied had a lightness to it that belied its 03ness. Well liked. Unfortunately from a set of leakers so these will be drunk on the early side. What's in those foudres?
