Excelente botella.

Depth of tingly red and dark fruit on the nose with dark earthiness underneath. Spice, sweet and savory, on the palate is perhaps not quite as well defined as in the best bottles but this was very good. High energy, young sweet fruit, but the poise and maturity of a 40 year old wine. 45 minute decant, consumed over two hours but the wine was still on an upswing.

Bottle variability continues. Somewhat flat nose although undistinguished dark fruit is given some backbone from dark savory spices. A bit too high back palate acidity. Faded after approximately 45 minutes. Drink now.

A lesser bottle than others I have had. Subdued dark fruit, dry leaves, and light earth. Palate was thinner than on other bottles with a shorter finish and unbalanced acidity at the end. Fared better when paired with chicken marsala.

Nose of dark fruit, dry leaves, old oak, and light savory mushroom. Flavors of cherry, damp earth, cranberry and even a little cinnamon candy apple in the background. Fantastic balance with dark fruit and earth on the front, smooth tannins in the middle, and lighter fruit and pleasing acidity on the backend. This was the best of several bottles that I had; will last for some time yet. Consumed over two hours without a decant and while it did mellow somewhat, this wine was still going strong at the end.

70s Rioja and Bellota Ham: Very full purplish red, hardly any signs of age. In the nose, this is truly amazing, monolithic, hardly changes at all over the course of several hours in the decanter. There's lots of cassis, some juniper, black cherry, some oaky spiciness. On the palate, it's rather tart, but has great structure, a quite prominent and almost piercing acidity, lots of tannic grip in the finish. This still seems very young. It may be a tad monolithic right now, but there's still lots of life in this beauty.

Good fill, good cork, same cellar. But a very different result.
