Rite of Spring at Chevalier Wines (Chicago, IL): I really wanted to like this more, but there was such an unpleasant 2004-red-Burgundy-like streak of green to it that I couldn't. Not enough fruit and stuffing here to hold up to this husk of green acid. Not a great drink.

Northern Rhone tasting (at Eli Raban's home, Rehovot): dark red-brown subtle elegant dark fruits and spicy aromas with hints of earthiness seems to be closed even after few hours after double decanting similarly on the palate , red fruits flavours, spices, graphite, medium bodied, soft firm tannins, balanced acidity; fine elegant structure & complexity, mid-length finish. should be opened 12 hours in advance. tasted neck to neck with 2004 M. Gerin Cote Rotie La Landonne and was a bit better

A minor disappointment this time, especially after the magnifficent 2007 La Sereine Noir. Medium garnet colour. Shy nose with obvious greenness (green peas?) alongside red cherries, meaty scents and spices. Medium-bodied, slightly firm tannins and balancing acidity. Medium aftertaste.

Popped and poured. Nice nose - quite olive-y. Disappointing on the palate, though - lean, and closed down. I like what's there, I just want more of everything, with more body. I think this will get significantly better in 5-10 years, so I'm going to sit on my other bottle for a good long while.

Tasted at a Northern Rhone blind tasting with 4 Hermitages and 4 Cote-Roties. This was among the winners (top 3 wines) the other 2 being Guigal's Cote-Rotie Brune et Blonde 2003 and Chapoutier's Ermitage L' Ermite 2004. Already accessible but with great aging potential, showed aromas of baked blackberries, coffee, kalhua liqueur and truffles. Full bodied with rich tannins and high acidity. Long aftertaste. Bought one bottle right after the tasting.

Fabulous wine, at a perfect stage. Velvet, smooth, nice matured fruit, secondary aromas dominant, incredibly long and firm aftertaste.
