-- decanted 1 hr before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over a few hours --
NOSE: spicy cigarbox; "dark"; concentrated plum; hints of anise and molasses; not funky.
BODY: medium-full bodied; rustic garnet color of deep depth.
TASTE: cigarbox; ripe, and full-flavored, but not OTT: dark & smoky; no brett; not hot; tannins are a touch drying; medium-low to medium acidity; this is much gutsier than many '04 CdPs I've had; tannins may ultimately win the race with this wine, but there's still lots of fruit left: Drink Now through 2025. Ash gut impression score: 91 – 92.

From a bottle purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this youthful-appearing, opaque ruby blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre is not anywhere close to its demise. Still loaded with tarry black bramble fruits, Provençal herbs and beautiful floral elements, it is a full-bodied, freshly acidic red with well-woven alcohol (listed as 14%), fully assimilated oak and tannins that still carry some grip. Dense on the middle palate, it goes on to finish long and with impressive lift. This is a Châteauneuf that, assuming properly cellared, will live well beyond my previous predictions as well as those of the pundits. Drink now-2030.

Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club"; Chateauneuf du Pape (@ My place): Deep bouquet with dark berries, rustic impressions, licorice and also still primary fruits. On the palate dark berries, licorice, garrigue, beautiful acidity and some pleasant sweetness. Delicious wine with still some bite and good bitterness.

From a pristinely-cellared bottle, this wine (a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre ) was decanted off of its sediment and serially tasted over 3-4 hours. Still a youthful deep ruby/red, it requires a full two hours before flaunting a bouquet of tarry black bramble fruit, loamy earth, white pepper and lavender. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14%), it delivers black fruit, anise, and bittersweet cocoa flavors that are wrapped with medium-weight tannins. The middle palate is dense and the finish is lengthy. I suspect that this wine is just beginning to "blossom." Well-cellared bottles should last several more years and will, in fact, likely improve. This wine may merit a higher score in the future. Drink now-2022.

Medium ruby in color with slight bricking at the edges, this wine reveals aromas of bacon fat, iron, game, black pepper and raspberry preserve. The mouth feel was full with added elements of pine needles, herbs and leather. The finish was a little short and the underlying fruit struggled to come out, knocking down my score several notches.
Purchased recently for $59US, this wine appears to be fading. Drink now.

(was 89.99) Still quite dark garnet. Blackberry nose. Mouth still a bit tannic. Very rich fruit flavors with big finish. Overtone of dark, dusty chocolate on the mouth.

Night one, edgy, night two rounded out, slightly spiced, a little olive, chocolate, even a little New York strip. Not our favorite CNDP but a very good wine

Not easy to taste in light of Feijoada - not to mention a good bit of beer & caipirinha. Still, this was a rare like for me among special Cuveé CDP. Relatively low ABV led to nice balance and enough acidity to be food friendly.

This is an impressive CdP, especially for the vintage. Dark, rich, lots of mourvedre and old vines grenache. Perhaps with a slightly modern hand, but there is a lot of complexity and structure with this wine. A big, chewy style of CdP in a vintage that more often yields more elegant wines.

Clear ruby color in the glass. Right out of the bottle this wine has a pungent mushroom aroma. At first that's all I could smell, but with some air the wine starts to sing with cherry, currant and dried roses. The palate starts off with grainy tannins, followed by powerful flavors of cassis and diced green peppers. Complexity is this wine's game, following with flavors of sour cherry, chewing tobacco and beef broth. After being opened for two hours, the flavors of beef broth and mushroom really come out in full. Those grainy tannins don’t ease up a bit, they just keep going, providing a granite-like structure to the wine. The complexity of this wine really evolved over four hours, which makes me think this wine should sleep for a few years, letting those nuances develip. Unfortunately, this was my only bottle.

Gorgeous CndP for "Third Thursday Wine" Gathering. Dark, very aromatic with lots going on to stimulate nose and palate. Sweet pungent red fruits are silky elegant and long. Good acid profile to carry the fruit purity and some back end pepper spice, Some mushroom & a touch of schisty minerality. Great finish and very very satisfying that will improve with time. Terrific wine with a good future as well. Was fun to compare to other wines, especially a 2000 Henri Bonneau Reserve Celestins that was a "Wild Child" CndP that was much more eccentric and less focused than the Quet, but quite interesting though less elegant. Bonneau was very very old school and the Quet had a blend of Old & Modern. Fascinating contrasts.

Day 2 review. Tar, leather, spices, and floral. Palate shows heavy spices which throw off the wines overall balance. Medium finish. Really not my style. It is better then day one.
Day four review. This wine finally opened for business. I have been doing a lot of experimenting with young wines and testing them over the course of 3 or 4 days. Aromas of white pepper, garrique, spices, raspberries and truffles. On the palate dirt, spices, garrique, pepper, raspberries and leather. Medium finish that is much less tannic then day one. The wine has really opened up and I really like the wine. I am always amazed and the transformation of good wine. 92 points

Rhones with Kevin at Chateau Glas (Chateau Glas): Medium color. Nose of spice, raspberries, and earth. On the palate spice, leather, spice, and some sweet fruit. Finish is really disappointing. I hope this improves the next day.

Needs a LOT more time. Opened this the day after having tried '04 Beaucastel CDP, and the Beaucastel was soo much better in every way. This was a disappointing wine, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and just say it needs a few more years to show it's stuff.

Popped and poured. Deep brick red color. Enticing nose of roasted meats, kirsch liquor, and red fruits. On the palate, interesting espresso, bitter chocolate, and garrigue flavors. Initially wide open, but began shutting down hard after 10-15 minutes in the glass... at that point, the acid and tannin really came to the forefront. A promising 2004 CDP that needs to sleep. I liked this about as much as the 2004 Vieux Donjon, and less than the 2004 Clos des Papes (both recently tasted from bottle).
