Just tasting a bottle of the 2001. It's like the Semillion grape content has taken over. It's a lovely wine. Matured really well. Waxy, lanolin. I would like some feedback on this. I love it but views may vary.
Evening all. Just drank a bottle of this. I have said before this wine seems to become less like sauvignon and more like like semillion with time. Comments please!

We had this on Christmas day. I liked it. Not like a sauvignon anymore. It tasted as if there was more semillion in it now. A bit like a voigner based wine.

So everyone we had two bottles of this wine tonight. Same case same storage and one was totally oxidised. Deep colour with sherry tones. However the second bottle was very good. From the fridge the nose was dead but once warmed a bit it was a bit of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. I really liked it but the wife wanted a 2014 NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Women eh. However I think she was right. I have bottles of Cloudy Bay back to 1996. I know, crazy stupid boy, but plan to drink and update as and when.

Nice fresh NZL Sauvignon Blanc that goes well as an aperitif or with fish or white meat. What I appreciate about the wine is its consistency of good quality throughout the years.

A leftover sol-ja from Memorial Day party - neighbor who brought it indicated they had cellared it since purchase and it was "overdue". The experience was exactly as described below by Paul S. Color was a deep golden yellow that one would not guess as being your typical 1-2yr old NZ SB. Generous and rather complex aromatics of buttered hazelnuts, a little fine petrol, toast, gooseberry, and lemon - loved this nose. Palate was surprisingly fresh and intense with fruit, especially on the attack and falls off considerably in the finish that I suspect was not a characteristic of its youth. Overall clearly excellent and did not fall apart over three hours of sipping, which perhaps attests to how well it was made.

Drank at International Seafood with Annie Chiam and family. They had kept this bottle for 6 years. Conventional wisdom says that Marlborough SB's should be drank between 1-2 years of release, so I was surprised at how well this wine had held up. A little heat, the tiniest bit of oxidation, but still going strong. No one would mistake this for an aged Sancerre, but it was really pleasant in a more mellow, reserved way. The wine had taken on a rich, golden hue, with the nose showing an unusual nutty, buttery tone with gooseberry and lemony notes. None of the freshly mown grass and tropical fruits that were so apparent in its youth. Palate was suprisingly fresh, with rather obvious acid, more gooseberry and lemon and a lingering finish.

I was surprised how this wine has kept everything together considering it's been cellared for six years. Sort of toned down NZ Sauvignon Blanc which is a compliment, much more subtle than younger ones and I definitely prefer this. Nice lingering finish.

Cloudy Bay shows its class - other Marlborough Sav Blancs are so "in your face" citrusy but this one opened up with a beautiful fresh nose, yet with lovely citrusy (vs in your face) flavours.

Football & Merlot @ Howard's 2009 (Old Greenwich, CT): Still holding on to life, but not all that interesting. Still juicy, but the fruit seemed a bit candied and slightly manipulated.
