When first out one of six bottles I bought was very nice, had side by side with 01 Guenoc PS, less licorice but lots of good flavors; last of 6 was April 2016, 12 year old $8 wine, decanted clear, dust and crust in bottle, still good deep dark fruit, subtle vanilla menthol notes, still a touch of tannins, decent structure in mouth, a bit tart on finish but overall semi-balanced, solid 86 for the $8 wine, decent wine and surprisingly good for price

Very dark purple color. Blackberries, pepper, licorice, and a touch of vanilla on the nose. Full body with decent acidity and some drying tannins. Very weak on the palate with some blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, pepper, and oak. Short finish dominated by oak. Drink up this doesn't have enough fruit to last too much longer.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first glass straight from the cellar (a little on the cold side). Had to open because it appeared the cork was slightly raised, thought it might have been a spoiled bottle. I was pleasantly surprised that the cork was in great shape - it just got mashed over the rim of the bottle giving it the impression it was going bad. Would definitely buy this vintage again.

Normally we really like this wine ... it's gourgeous in color, smell and almost always tastes so good ... but this one let us down. The color and the smell after swirling and decanting said this was gonna be good and with a beef stew, it should be very good ... NOT! It wasn't corked, it just didn't have much at all, which is disappointing. Normally the Bogle Petite Sirah is one of those wines you can count on to consistently deliver great value and great pleasure. This bottle let us down. I'm hoping it was an just a bad bottle ... hey, stuff happens!!

Better than I was expecting once it got a little air. Very Dark color, thick. Nose of sweet oak, a little barnyard and dark fruits. More dark fruit on the palate, short finish, a little hot, very Zinfandel-esque.

Dark color, but not quite opague. Nose is dark fruits of black currant, raspberry, blueberry, and vanilla. ON the palate this has nice balance, medium body showing moderate tannins, red and black fruit, spice (jamaican allspice and black pepper). Alcohol seems about 15+, but not listed on the label.
I expect this to evolve and improve. I've very impressed so far.
Getting down to the bottom half of the bottle and the palate is showing blackberries, blueberries, and plum. Drinking well, with still a bit of alcohol and tannins. I will definitely be buying more of this as a quaffer and cellar guard.

color: Dark inky purple nose: Dark brambly fruit, clay, and toasty oak first flavors are jammy, sweet black fruit with additional sweetness and spice from the oak. Chewy tannins, yet a strange hollow/thinness in the midpalate. Firm, dry - woody tannins in a fairly short finish. Overripe, over-oaked, and a bit disijointed for my taste, yet appealed to others at the table.

85 /100 pts. Color: 4/5 -- Definitely has that great PS purple thing going on, but for a PS it should be denser. Nose: 11/15 -- Very rich, black currant jam nose with a bit of sweat sock toward the end, but not anything that draws you back in for continued olfactory exploration. Taste: 8/10 -- Typical PS with a bold shot to the palate. Pretty stiff dry, tannic punch, but it's well balanced with the leathery peppered fruit that fills your mouth. Finish: 7/10 -- Surprisingly weak finish for a wine that starts off so strongly. The fullness of the flavor is completely missing on the finish as there's a little whisper of currant & plum finish that quickly disappears. Aging: 2/5 -- Despite being a pretty bold offering, this is pretty clearly a wine that's supposed to be consumed upon release. Enjoy it now or within the next few years before the flavors wilt. Overall: 3/5 -- Rating this as a petite sirah, it's a strong average. It's a strong $10-$12 bottle of wine that doesn't disappoint.

Plum nose with some oak. On the palate, it's quite spicy. There's more plum with sour cherry and some blueberry sweetness underneath. Some oak and bark flavors mixed in as well. It's not bad overall. The spice and tartness are a little heavy, but it has some decent depth to it. This would probably be a good wine to go with barbecue.

blackberries, black currant, hint of tobacco and oak. In 2003 this wine, for the price point, was a drinkable, recommended wine by many. But 2004, was not. After tasting this wine I was concerned that I missed the boat on this one. I had to run out and find what others said about the 2004. Seems I was not the only one who was disappointed. Flavors were disjointed. From super sweet to vegitables, it quickly falls apart on the mid-palette and then finishes even harsher. A lot of alcohol burn and the acidity felt like I just licked a 9-volt battery. I can appreciate what Bogle is trying to do, but miss the mark on this year. Ok. Try it again day later. Undrinkable. 1st wine I dumped. =(

I'll call it "muted" fruit in this...a little blueberry maybe. The nose was pleasant for a while upon opening, but pretty awkward and thin on the palate with a near non-existent finish. Don't bother.

Okay so when I saw the huge 3 L bottle for $40.00 at KLWines I thought it would be simply cool to have sitting in the wine rack. I was actually surprised by it when we opened it. Hints of blueberries and clove on the nose with a soft palate of dried fruit and potpurri, nice finish as well. For what I spent it was a really good deal. It was my first experience with a 100% Petite Surah and I will keep an eye out for this variatal in the future

fair, but not much typicity in my admittedly limited experience. light mouthfeel, undefined fruit. a quaffing wine, maybe nice on a picnic? followed the 05 Dashe Zinfandel (which was a better match) with a linguine and red sauce of buffalo, calamata and garlic. popped and poured.
Night 3: softened the tannins, still nice yet undefined. a tad "grapey". not bad QPR, overall though.

Dark red/Purple color. Young ends as it is only a 2004. Quite a bit of fruit on the nose. Definitely the fruit bomb. Smell black rasberry, jammy plum, and black currants. After a few minutes in the glass the light oak begins to come out. On the mouth it isn't the fruit bomb that it smelled like. Quite tannic for a PS. Pretty smooth drinker. The finish isn't all that long and ends with a little cherry and oak. Seems like a pretty good every day drinker.

My first PS, and certainly not my last. Opened it last night, heavy heavy tannins, but the fruit was there and became more evident after a few hours. Tonight it's even better after a night in the fridge without vacu-vinning. Tannins much less pronounced and the wine is very interesting. Mostly berries, with a bit of spice. Nice long finish. Great nose and color. Excellent value.

Nice and bold as I generally like my red wine, but I didn't get many interesting flavors. I also had some sedimentary-looking sludge under the cork which I know was just a flaw on this bottle, but still not fun.

It's a good wine, not great or outstanding, but good. There's not much varietal character, but nice color in the glass, pleasent nose of blueberries, soft on the palate and a slightly gritty finish.

Middle-of-the-road Petite Sirah. Sure, it is reminiscent of what makes PS so enjoyable (inky, blueberry flavors), but this is no blockbuster. The mid-palate lacks roundness and flavor against a fairly dry finish (thin, if you can believe it). When there are far, far better examples of the varietal for not a lot more from Rosenblum, Hartford and David Bruce, don't waste your time with this. Although I will say, it works as an everyday drinker if you don't care too much about varietal character, and it went well with both coq au vin and Double Rainbow blueberry ice cream.

Color is a rich violet color, medium dark. Nose of charred fruit, raisin, quite a bit of alcohol even after an hour of decanting. Texture is very silky, seems thicker on the mid-pallette than right as you drink it. More charred fruit, sort of an overcooked plum flavor, some carmelized sugar. Finish is clean and short, and the fruit finish is less charred than the nose and taste, but it still lingers. Not as complex as I had expected, and its most redeeming qualities are the silky texture and fruit nose, although the fruit is charred.
