Well made bottle of Toro, lots of oak on the nose, coffee and plum, bit of violets in the mix. Bone dry wine, with fine tannins, slight earthy character mixed with a hint of chocolate and vanilla, a bit of cherry on a medium length finish. Not a big fan of this style anymore, also the 15.5% alcohol is a bit over the top...really a steak wine.

took three hours to open, but when it did it was wonderful. The fruit is diminished but the balance continues to be strong. Lots of leather, tobacco, fine tannin, iron and earth complement the dark fruits and plum notes.

From magnum, decanted for one hour. This is in the right spot age wise. The grip is still there but the coating of wood and tanin is smooth and supple. Upfront dark cherry turns into forest floor and sous bois. Medium finish with licorice and tar.

A nose of dark fruit and dark coffee, dark purple in color. A full bodied red, with blackberry, black cherry, black currants, chocolate and spice on long finish. In a great drinking zone, short decant, is one of the best QPR’s that exist in the wine world. www.winelx.com

Complex nose with layers of dark fruits, tobacco, leather, vanilla. Very powerful, full bodied, still very high acidity and grippy tannins. Probably could gain from further aging in the bottle in the next 3-5 years.

Great wine that is just starting to come into optimal drinking window. The last glass actually turned out to be the best, so decant for a couple of hours. The wine was full of dark fruit, dark chocolate, highly complex and long after. Initially a bit of heat from unintegrated alcohol, but this went away after an hour or two. Great wine at a decent price.

I let this incredible Spanish red decant for at least 3 to 4 hours & when poured it truly showed its maturity with its deep dark purple colour. When swirled a quick primary set of tears appeared and to the nose big dark red fruit aromas very noticeable. Secondary notes of wood & vanilla as well showed themselves. The structure of this wine was incredible with medium acidity, low tannins, medium alcohol, & a full body complex finish. What an incredible wine still one of my favourites.

Decanted 2 hours. Purple black and opaque. Dark black fruits, vanilla, oak, menthol and green notes. Brooding ripe black fruits, scorched earth, vanilla, cola spice. Good weight on the mid, full on attack and long finish. Wine is full and present, however Seems flat, maybe past peak, going to open the 09 soon. Toro reds - ungrafted vines: Inky fruits, densely meaty, like meat tartare on the nose. With time soft tobacco notes appear. Good mouthfeel, soft and fruity for a Toro wine. Quite good accidity, lovely. Tannins seemed resolved. Actually very enjoyable for such a blockbuster wine.

Okay this was to be the crown jewel of the evening after the killer 2013 Jane et Sylvain Bourgogne, the boring lackluster flat as a pancake 2007 les Racines gigondas. Oh boy after reading here I was excited. 1 hour decant, tight tight leaden wine overwhelmed with vanilla(?) could not understand. It was passable at best. May the runt of the litter as I have 3 or is that 5 more. I hope it was a runt. It was at best on par with a Grateful Dead cover band or the actual grateful dead circa 1985. There but not.

Dark and firm body. Dense but not as oily as one might expect, quite smooth for Toro. Dark cherries, prunes, hints of chocolate, but dry nose and palate. Oak still noticeable, I would love to see how it will integrate, as after that the wine will be more subtle. This gains a lot when paired with juicy/fat meat.

Magnum night with the neighbors (Somewhere on E. 4th street): From Mag. This was a backup bottle but somehow we needed more wine. Purple in color. The nose is young but nice with dark cherries, cedar and spice. Full bodied. On the palate, dark cherries with some sandalwood. There is a fair amount of oak here, but I am sure with time it will integrate. The acidity helps it work with food though. Nice finish.

I have had many of previous vintages and always love these, if you are in the mood for an in your face, over the top powerhouse. This was just as powerful but seemed a little off balance. Loads of cinnamon on the nose with dark fruit, than blackberry/blueberry on the palate with a little too much heat. After some time this started to calm down and was more approachable. This could wind up be stellar if time brings it all into balance. I know I opened this too soon, but like with every vintage, I have to try at least one within the first year.

Creamy soft oak and vanilla on the nose and palate with a hint of the 14.5% alcohol bleeding through. Very interesting taste - almost Scotch malt like (I realize that that is not saying much - Scotch has about as wide a flavor profile as wine in some respects so bear with me) I found this wine less about exuberant fruit and more about earthy, malty, mushroom, minerals and - dare I say it - smokey peet! Its definitely a different version.
