SLDS January BBQ: Blind. Tobacco, truffle, cherry, mint and tomato with some iron. Savoury across the palate with light fruit holding on. Nice little kick of fruit on the back of the palate, but otherwise quite dusty. Nice older wine.

I expected people to think this was claret - the nose all cedary and the finish dry. After decanting, farmyard aromas developed. But Guy thought it was Grange and Bruce said it was better than Grange so it had to be Yarra Yering. A stunningly good wine, complex, powerful and delicious

Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 - The Complete Vertical 1975 to 2006 (The Ledbury, London): Wild, gamey, some pong, stalky too, but so intense and it all came together as a compelling savage wine

LEATHER, SPICES, AND HERBS IN THE NOSE. FLAVOR HAD SOME OF THE NOSE, BUT ALSO WITH FRUITY RASPBERRIES. LONG FINISH.
