Highly mineral driven, like sucking rainwater off rocks. Zesty, citrus fruit, though not full on. Very tart finish. Maybe not my style, as it seemed a little too lean for me.

Hello lemon. Compelling bright fruit driven nose with a hint of oak and vanilla. Rich palate with more lemon, confit, and long well balanced tartness. Great balance and poise, perfect with afternoon Raclette. A bit richer than I expect from this vineyard, but perhaps the vintage?

Fun with Pucelles and Amoureuses (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Served alongside the 2018. Apple and tropical fruit but without the sweetness too often associated with tropical fruit. Also faint botrytis hints that add nuance in the background. Layered, complex and intriguing, this wine keeps getting better each time I taste it. Almost everybody enjoyed this even more than the Leflaive 2013 in the next flight.

Puligny-Montrachet les Pucelles - blind tasting 1998-2011: Initially closed, opened more and more in the glass (make sure you decant or wait). Nose of white flowers, lemon, some corn, crisp, palate. Still young but classic and precise. Can add a point or two when mature. 93+

Rich and buttery start with buttered popcorn, sweet spice and tropical fruit aromas. Equally rich on palate with good+ weight. Dark color gave me some concern to start, but acidity middle through finish is clearly there and brightening. Still, best to enjoy by 2023.

this -- different that my first couple bottles -- was lifted and bright, great citrus (lemon) fruit profile with decent but not huge acidity... really enjoyed by all for its modest richness balanced sufficiently by acidity / verve

loved the many bottles of this wine's 2006 vintage, ironically (being an '06) it was a favorite cuz of huge acidity and tension, actually / literally mouthwatering -- the saliva would flow and drip around the corners of my mouth, this wine was a total reversal with it being too soft, not enough citrus fruit to offset the oak... hoping this was just a bad time to open the bottle... but it is a 2013 -- not a vintage I like much -- so maybe just not a good purchase by (have four more left)

Château Gruaud-Larose Vertical (Knightsbridge and Abigail's): This showed surprisingly overt and new world. While it was balanced, I found the profile a bit out of character for Pucelles. An attractive and showy nose has sweet, candied, tropical fruit. Palate is delicious with rich, round orchard fruit. Moderate acids provide persistence and freshness. A real pleasure bomb right now.

Gruaud Larose Tasting and Dinner (Northbrook, IL): Nicely floral and spice aromas. More tropical than I usually expect from Pernot, but with the right acidity and mineral textures middle forward to maintain balance. Good already now.

This had a very open and floral nose for a wine so young. The palate was a bit more reserved, but showed peach and citrus flavors, some flinty minerality, and nicely judged acid. Still young and fresh - if it doesn't premox, could improve for up to 10 years. Held its own at a Paulee-style event featuring contributions of about 40 different Puligny wines from different producers and vintages.

Peach and tropical hints with notes of mint and baking spice. This comes across as lush and exotic to start, but enough weight and minerality from middle to finish provides the structural support to keep this on center and very charming. I'd think this best young, 2017-2023.

maybe to early in its life to judge this wine but i won't be buying this for now, i have loved many vintages of Pernot's Pucelles but this didn't do it for me today, way too soft and with a slight bitterness (in a bad way)

Lovely bright lemon color, at first opening showing exceptionally firm structure but it took a good 45 minutes of airing to start coming together, 1-2 hours after opening a wine very much in the vein of 1993, peaches on the substantial- but somewhat muted- mid-palate and razor sharp lime acid notes in a very lengthy- and very much closed- finish, 4 hours later it was showing all it is going to at this young age- peaches still but now oranges and hints of marzipan as well, honeyed, pungent earth, floral notes- but very much in hiding, a firm and steely structure, a substantial primary mid-palate and then that magnificent lengthy finish with orange and lime-tinted acids, 1993 is the best comparison- perhaps a bit of 2001 as well purely from the standpoint of digitally defined mineral nuances throughout, this has the potential to be quite good- but I suspect much patience will be required and at this early stage I would speculate this needs a good decade of cellar time before it even begins to unfurl with a very long life thereafter. (****), 2023++

Tasting 2013 at Paul Pernot et ses Fils (Puligny-Montrachet): Tasting at domaine, this had also just been very recently racked. Fatter, rounder and less chiseled vs the Folatieres. Apple and pear coming through, also showing the slightly dulling effect from having just been racked.

In an awesome place and drinking seamlessly with the botrytis adding a well-places accent and complexity to the wine. Won’t get better from here.

Pernot / Méo-Camuzet Dinner with Jeanne Marie de Champs (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Starts out very rich, almost sweet. That baby fat softens once open 20-30 minutes. Good depth and concentration start-to-finish. Some possible upside from here.
