2004 PETER MICHAEL LA CARRIERE SONOMA COUNTY CHARDONNAY- tasted blind; most got this as CA; with a yellow gold color, it had a big dollop of honeysuckle and stone fruit with undertones of oak; it was full on and long, a big boy with serious expressions.

tasted both from a 750 and a magnum. Both displayed excellent balance, but the mid-palate is disappearing. Nice mineral notes, and certainly interesting to be able to taste at this age. No significant difference between the 750 and the magnum. The 2004 Belle Cote was considerably more vibrant, from a 750. Will taste the magnum fairly soon.

w tuna steaks an artichokes. Not good combination but believe this lost its oomph. Great nose and color upon opening, but only decent thereafter. Really expected something great after 10 yrs. this was well kept since buying thru the list. Too bad

A bad bottle. cloudy and I thought it might just have been lees, since i could still taste nice chard, but two other drinkers detected nail polish and ended up pouring down the sink. the first one was very nice. Making me wonder if i should attempt aging these past 5 years.

- Yellow color with slow forming legs. It's unbalanced with a full body. Juicy texture with a long finish - Well, Bright yellow with a green hue . Legs so slow they dry on the side of the glass . On the nose it's light and tropical . The taste starts with cream with lime peel and Finishes with wet red clay and gunmetal ... I didn't get the butterscotch maybe because this was kept in the darkest colder part of the cellar .

very good chardonnay, but a bit too much butterscotch / malo for my taste. tropical fruits come to mind -- maybe even coconut on the nose. very thick in the mouth. very nich

Light dull golden, cloudy. Butterscotch oak nose. Medium bodied, thick in the mouth, rich apple, light butterscotch oak finish. Well balanced, mature, less intensity than expected with a shorter finish

Out of mag. Makes a difference. Last night we had same wine out of 750 and it was like a different wine. Still a baby, but the white of the night among several white burgs, mostly corton charlemange's. Buy PM in mags if you have a chance - just like champagne's. This wine could go another decade. Amazing fruit, oak starting to settle down, wonderful finish. A real hit.

Tthe best California chard I have ever had. Sooo balanced, very good flavor, no harsh edges or oak excess, went down real easy. Great fruit and acidity balance. Fruit seemed a citrus, perhaps mango or grapefruit, but very slight. Well done and highly recommended. Aging more? It's drinking well right now. I would give perhaps 3-5 years tops. I rate 94-95 for one of the best white wines I ever had. Based on this bottle, I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on buying from Peter Michael.

after multiple poor performances from the 04 ma belle fille, i wanted to open another 04 vintage STAT, thus this bottle tonight. consternation over, this bottle is clearly where it should be, showing clean lines, nicely integrated oak and development. i would say that jane and i moved thru this like germany thru poland. very nice.

This is nearly perfectly executed Chardonnay. A shade too much malo for me personally. But it is impeccably balanced, built and barreled. That said, it seemed to lack individual character. A well groomed, showy wine without much soul.

reloaded second bottle after a corker. not quite on the level of the 04 aubert lauren for me, lacking the absolute explosive fruit and finish of that wine, but very fine.

Complex nose of stone fruit, lemon and hazelnut. Creamy texture and firm finish of minerals and smoky oak. Elegant and less power packed than younger PMs. I don't see this one improving much.

In the glass, medium to light yellow and a bit cloudy. The palate is smooth from start to finish. Lots of customary oak. The overall experience is a little sloppy, alternating between oak and acid. It's still a terrific drink but I'm a little disappointed it's not more refined and integrated at this point. I'm going to hold off drinking more for another year to see if it improves. It won't get worse.

Tasting Group Dinner - Miscellaneous (La Belle Vie Lounge, Minneapolis): Initially showed quite a bit of alcohol, but improved considerably as we chilled the bottle down. Thick, rich flavors of apricots, honey, and nut oils, supported by a hefty degree of new oak. Creamy mouthfeel. Super-long finish.

In the glass, pale yellow and very slightly cloudy. On the nose, a mixture of peach, apple, and honeysuckle. On the palate, an elegant blend of white fruit, peaches, sweet lemon, and a touch of minerality, with enough oak and acidity to keep the wine in balance. Might benefit from another 1-2 years in the cellar, but I suspect it's not far from peak drinking condition right now.

Another outstanding PM Chardonnay. This wine has white fruits, minerals, orange, lemon, melon, and saline notes packaged in a medium bodied frame. Layered and long. Positive oak contribution. Could use a bit more acidity.

While being an excellent Chardonnay it lacked the depth and complexity of the 2003 vintage. Well balanced with tropical fruit, citrus, oak and butter. Very elegant, very well made.

Stylistically, I'd place this right between the '03 Ma Belle-Fille and the '04 Belle Cote I had recently, and it's in roughly the same league as those quality-wise. Not as extracted, oaky, or powerful as the Ma Belle-Fille (my favorite of the three), and not quite as delicate as the Belle Cote, this strikes a great balance of minerality and surprisingly tropical (yet still elegant) fruit. Loads of pineapple, orange, and maybe honeydew on the nose, followed by peach, pear, and the sublest touch of oak on the palate. The precise minerality throughout really adds an extra dimension. Bottom line: it tastes like an especially ripe Premier Cru Burgundy, and that's pretty hard to beat.

Medium bodied and less stacked and packed than the 04 Aubert's. No joke on the "Quarry" minerality here. Smooth soft mouthfeel. This is the least overtly oaky young PM I can ever remember. Nice mild citrus notes with a floral component. Slight and I mean slight spice note on the very end of the finish. Pleasantly balanced, fits in its' clothes, if you know what I mean. Very respectable finish. Does not present the smack in your face intensity, which is fine, it is what it is...fairly elegant and respectable. 92 pts.
