Nose of lychee/hawthorn that I often find in Leroy 01s. Charismatic presence of spices, tea, lychees, brown sugar, garam masala on the palate. Very good wine, even by Leroy standard, but lacks that sensuality today

Bottle 2925/4156- Despite three hour of air, the wine was more reserved than the NSG. The nose was deeper than the Boudots yet less sexy with spice, red fruit, cherry, perfume and sweet stems. Broad shoulder, structured and polished. The last glass was the best. Drink your Boudots before your Beaux Monts.

HDH Bordeaux Auction; 11/3/2017-11/4/2017 (Chicago, IL): Outstanding nose that just speaks of Leroy. That earthy spice is incredible, coupled with red fruit, the decaying leaves, and the mushrooms. The palate is definitely on the concentrated side, but there's a lightness here that is very impressive. Surprisingly tannic and dense, but showing a lot of secondary characteristics on the palate as well. Great now, will still be great later.

Surpringly drinking in what seems to be a prime window. Classic Leroy spice aromas in full bloom here along with pretty strawberries. Silky texture with only hints of the vintage’s sleek reputation. Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): So beautifully Vosne, so prototypically Leroy. All red fruit with an enchanting and exotic spicebox. Slightly more mature can many 2001s, but still very rich, dense and long. No surprise, this got better and longer with more air.

Leroy Vosne Romanee Les Beaux Monts 2001 The Leroy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2001 possesses a sublime, deep inner perfume of dewy meadow flowers, crushed raspberry, forest floor and pitched top-notes of pine and incense. Ruby and translucent, it's incredibly fresh and vibrant with subtle complexity on the palate. Layers of wild red berries, iron, spiced crabapple and rose hips cavort amidst ultra-fine tannins and minerally notes. This is a wine with fine bones, it's all lightness and air, much like the enigmatic Lalou Bize-Leroy herself.

Gorgeous nose of smoky violets, dark cherries and Vosne earth. This is drinking beautifully now and really showing that fabulous Vosne Romanee spicy complexity. Medium-bodied with a lovely silky texture and then builds to a very fine and intense finish with notes of spicy cherries, smoke and violets. Really authentic, terroir-driven juice.

DC winos belated holiday dinner - Mostly Burg and Bordeaux (Lavandou, Washington DC): Black and red fruits, strong cherry note that quickly transforms to blackberry and strawberry, vosne spice, Asian spice, sap, flower and sesame/toasted oak. Sweet dark fruit, excellent concentration and good acidity. Every Leroy I drank seem to show strong Leroy signature, ie. sweet ripe fruits, blackberry, Asian spice and sesame/toasted oak and this is no exception. Lovely hedonistic wine but not showing much pure fruits.

Drank over 2 days. Decided to go back to this one after a few months as the prior bottle tasted was a little later in the evening. This started out extremely dense and tight. Very deep nose of dark fruits and black pepper along with lots of other spice. The palate matched with the racy quality I love from Leroy. But very dense and tighter than I remember the bottle from earlier this year. Still very primary but loads of complexity. Great texture with lots of structure that is easily matched by the fruit. On day two the nose had soften somewhat, but still emphasis on the spice but with more red fruit and dried roses. The palate was also softer and more open with blue fruit notes. Long finish. I will wait a few more years to try my next bottle, but this is an experience today.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Pop and pour. Signs of bricking. Dat nose. Loads of red fruits counterbalanced by an earthy barnyard aroma. A huge powerful study of tart red cherries, as well as some brown spice aromas that identify the commune. On the palate, there is a ton going on, but it is all dark and frustratingly impenetrable. Obviously, this is a fault of the serving condition and not the bottle itself. Excruciatingly tight; giving nothing. I'll continue the note as the day carries on... initially, 90 points. The air brings out the expressiveness of the wine. Especially since where I'm sitting is so well air-conditioned, this is staying at cellar temperature. Perfect drinking conditions. Notes of black cherries on the palate with a lot of sweetness. A balanced vein of acidity, and fading tannins. At a lovely spot right now, this is a really seductive wine.

PnP at TRU. Slightly orange strawberry red. Nose features Pinot 'earth'/floral underbrush, Asian spice, and red fruit. Palate is layered, finesseful, complex (spice and floral) and amazingly balanced. Light mineral thread. Agree that it may lack the tension/precision of a GC, but this is one terrific wine that easily matched across several courses and held our attention for hours.

There is such an incredible violet thing going on here that it is a shame to drink this now before the full character is revealed with more bottle age. A brilliant vintage for this wine with this incredible fruit delivered in such a refined and elgant style. Despite its suave and silky presence, it is a full-bodied pinot with tons of delicious violet and cherry fruit. Hands off until the secondary flavors begin to develop and then this will be extraordinary. 95+

A no-doubter Vosne-Romanée right out of the gate with its characteristic scent of cinnamon and cloves. The palate is all about the spices, too, since there isn't much fruit character left to it. There is a patina of aging pinot noir, but it's definitely faded and comes across like a somewhat older wine than it is. I probably would have guessed a '96 or '98. There is a significant contrast between this bottle and the '01 Leroy Boudots I enjoyed almost exactly a year ago -- the latter still had plenty of rich, dense fruit and a Richebourg-like torque. This is much softer, lacking both the powerful impact as well as the vibrancy. If you were looking for a grand cru experience commensurate with the price tag and the glitz of the Leroy name, this is something of a disappointment. On the other hand, it's still an excellent Beaux Monts, sort of an "RSV-Lite" with its soft texture and evocative spiciness.

Dark color with just a glorious nose of sweet violets and cherries. Quite firm and still very young but with decanting and 2 hours of aeration it began to open some. Beautiful flavors of dark berries, violets and a wisp of smoky earth. Medium-bodied but seems to be holding a lot in reserve on the finish. This wine has a wonderful, silky texture and a real floral essence. Just classy and gorgeous and the perfume on the nose is intoxicating. Lovely to drink now if decanted but this won't peak for another few years. 93+

The color and the softness of this wine scream "drink up!" Who knows with Leroy, though, maybe this would last for decades. If I had this in my cellar, though, I'd be popping them soon because it's so delicious now. A lovely wine, aromas of clove leap from the glass, and the palate is a melange of black and red fruit. Serious weight with a very long finish.

Wow...what an incredible glass of Vosne! Violets soar out of the glass...may just be entering its window of drink-ability now! magical...

Even in an argon enomatic system, Leroy fades so quickly. Young and powerful.

My First DRC and Many Other Treats (Mirabelle, Austin, TX): So, I started experiencing palate fatigue and didn't give this a fair shot. I picked up some acetone on the nose with dark fruits on the palate. Would like to have this again to really experience it. OK

right out of the cellar to lunch, I gave this wine a 90 ... 24 hours later this is a beautiful bottle of burgundy, with sweet red fruit on the nose, rich cherries on the palate

Excellent with rack of lamb, still a bit restrained ... needs a few more years to mature. Sweet red fruit mid-palate to finish.

Tasted at Biodynamic growers tasting NYC. Very earthy nose. Cherries and dusty tannins on the palate and finish. A good wine but far from great in my opinion, but Burgundy has never been my thing.
