I enjoyed this more than previous notes suggest. It had a rustic power that, although not elegant, served very well as a "last bottle of the night after a late party hedonistic" wine.

Nice aeromatics with deep berry and some diesel. Some strawberry with acidity and strong tannins on the palette. Finish is a bit short initially. However, the wine really really opened up much more after an hour of air. Nose of strong berry and better fruit and acidity delination. Much more integrated than 6 months ago. Either decant for an hour or two or wait 6 more months to try again.

Had this alongside the '98 Coudoulet de Beaucastel and they were of similar quality, but quite different in their characteristics. This one was a bit darker in color. On the nose this was more primary and about big fruit that the CDR, which had much more interest aromatically and more focused mineral-driven palate. The addition of Grenache seems to have added a bright red berry aspect that no other Novy Syrah has. This one also lacks the meaty, smoke and spice notes and 'lushness' that the 100% Novy syrahs have. On night two I paired this with pizza and the freshness of the fruit and the somewhat sharp acidic edge made this a nice match.

Good aeromatics. Disappointing mid palette and finish. Too hot.
