Opened by Lostverse. I last had this in 2014. I previously had the 1988, 1995, 1998 and 1999 vintages of this wine. Disgorged November, 2014. Deep yellow color. Lighter bead. A deeper Champagne with almond and toast notes. Well aged and showing a little oxidative note. Drink now. 89 points.

On first opening this was lovely, more developed than the last bottle I had, more tropical in fruit, acidity not as crisp, none of the nutty biscuit I prefer. It faded pretty quickly too. I would say it has peaked now. Drink up.

This wine is still very young even at 17 years old. It starts out light but develops with air. The bread dough/yeastiness gets stronger after about 30 minutes in the glass. The mousse is still strong. Drink now or hold another 10 years, but let it develop if you drink now.

OUtstanding starter on Valentines it was our marriage year and I felt drinking en point but clearly I may be biased. My wife is more critical on these and she loved it
fruit acidity and inerality seem to offset one another perfectly with fine mousse and medium long finish, I have seen less than stellar reviews and I am not sure about their provenence and storage but this was bought from Buckley on release and stored cold in one cellar if that is the difference

Drank a Gosset Grande Reserve NV, a 2004 Veuve Clicquot and a Egly Ouriet Brut Tradition NV one after the other. The Gosset was the richest with the strongest notes of brioche, the Egly Ouriet was the most precisely drawn and for me a notch above the others and the 04 Veuve was in my eyes once again disappointing. Unlike the Egly Ouriet which traded fruit and richness for precision, the Veuve simply felt a bit thin and lean and not as much fun to drink. Egly Ouriet 93, Gosset 92, 2004 Veuve 90

What a rich and lovely champagne. Hints of cream to balance with a nice acidity. Slightly honeyed orange citrus. A touch of straw and minerals kept it very interesting. A 20 second finish.

Brød, rosin, bringebær på duft, etterhvert finner Dag litt kaffe bak i munnen. Delikate bobler og flott friskhet. Bringebær og noe grapefrukt. Avdempa og harmonisk. Får litt mer fylde med duft. God champagne, men en tanke anonym. Først og fremst behagelig.

A nice wine in a nice place at the moment. I didn't take notes at the time but I remember thinking that this was nicely mature without any 'wow' factor. To be fair I find the VC style a bit bland if well made and I usually feel a bit bored when drinking wines from this house. I think most VC offerings are good when you're having a single glass but lack the personality required to keep my interest over three or four glasses.

Nice mousse, fine bead, creamy mouth feel with nice contrasting acidity at the edge of the palate. Fairly mature showing some hazelnut and almond, a touch of bakers yeast, baked lemon/apple. I think this is drinking great now, 2nd bottle in 2017 and both showing well, no rush as this still has some time and may develop a bit further, likely I won't find out bc I will finish my bottles in the next year or so.

NobleRottersSydney - US pinot (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork} [Geoffrey] Deep lemon/gold colour. Heavily cheesy, yeasty nose nose. Very advanced. Still has plenty of acid on the palate, despite the rather flat and simple yellow fruit flavours. Seems a bit too advanced in flavor, even if the other structural elements aren’t too bad. Although it finishes a bit short too. Might be a bit below par somehow; not convincing on this tasting.

Very fine mousse; meaty, power yet vivacious; biscuity, has an austerity, crisp; firm, verging on severe, finish. Extended length. Needs a couple of years or more.

This is a lovely champagne. 12 year old. Still smooth, a hint of brioche, not a long aftertaste. Very 'champagne style'. We started with this and moved on to a 2008 Nyetimber - which was much more fruity, yet had a much longer aftertaste. One of our group described it as 'olives' but another thought it was much more 'warm toffee' - probably from the chardonnay. The Nyetimber just beat the champagne hands down

A dinner with friends at home: Served with oysters. Solid Champagne but at least this 2004 vintage is not worth the extra money over the better NVs. Pale yellow, medium mousse, crisp with plenty of citrus, a touch of brioche. Despite opening it about 45 min before people arrived I found it a bit thin and boring on the palate. I have my doubts that this will improve much with more time in bottle.
Valentine's Day Lunch at Flemings with Virgie and Joe and Kathy and I. Tiny bubbles, nice mousse, nose of toast, pear juice and sliced apple, medium/big body, delicious with the Seared Ahi Tuna at Flemings, enough acid implies it will be better in two years, a definite improvement over the NV Jacquesson 737, long, flavorful finish. Thank you Joe for providing both Champagnes.

Tasted only a day or so after the 2002, this was somewhat in its shadow. Yes it expresses all the virtues I've said before - expansive mouthfeel and a lovely fresh fruitiness, lively mousse and fantastic freshness.
Don't get me wrong, a lovely Champagne, and I'm glad I've still got a couple for the years to come. But under the circumstances, the 2002 for me is a cut above at the moment.

Rich, very pinot style, vinous, with good acidity and a medium finish. Has enough richness to pair with almost any dish, in this case it worked with a roasted beef. Some bottle variation, this one was very good with plenty life ahead.

A Mix of Champagne; 12/5/2015-12/6/2015 (Ray and Teresa's): Pop and pour, drank a small glass at a tasting. Extremely pale yellow. This was served ice cold, and it never seemed to open up. It improved slightly as it warmed, but seemed extremely shy. Surprisingly, the NV Veuve served right before it was the better wine tonight. Maybe in a dead spot?

Crisp light and refreshing, with a slight gooseberry taste, clean on the palette with a creamy long gentle after taste, vibrant and crisp. Overall bright and exciting ideal for a posh wedding reception which is quit amazing for a 11 year old wine. It contains a predominance of the grape Pinot Noir. Normal price £45, on offer at Sainsbury's for £40 24th July 2015.

NobleRottersSydney - Cellar Treasures (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): (Bruce) Lemony nose. Only a little yeast character. Creamy texture. Even, lemony flavours, dry but not tart. Interesting. Quite advanced colour, fine mousse which quickly dissipated. Nose of apples, lemon, toffee and pepper. Tastes of apples and butter toffee. Given the citrus elements on the nose, surprised by the lack of acidity. Made the wine feel a bit flabbly. Wife said "soft". Now, I've been trying to avoid that word in TNs but as it's a 3rd party quote I think it's allowed and certainly merited in this case. A soft, smooth wine with no angularity and consequently not much interest. Incidentally, by hour 2, this wine was almost completely flat. Is this a bad bottle?

This is really nice but it doesn't taste like it's 10 years old. It could be 3 or 4 years old. It's all here. Nutty, supple and rounded. A little bit flabby but very good none-the-less. It doesn't really move me much, but I like it. I'd have it again.

The nose was nutty with notes of pear and moist minerals wafting up through its effervescence. It entered the palate tight and firm yet fleshed out quickly as the mouth watered, adding notes of dried apple and minerals which carried on through the finish.

Consistently a very rewarding wine. Much like the last 2 times we have had it, it was round, rich and with very good depth. The nose is such a beauty with toasty side, ripe fruit and rich depth. We rated it twice 92 but we wonder if 93 is a more fitting score. Another great champagne from 2004 which at the moment from the young vintages is one to go for.

At a retailer tasting. This fell near the top of the previous vintages I've had. Better than the 1988 and 1999 but about the equal of the 1995 and 1998. A full bodied wine with rich yellow fruit notes. 92 points.

Perhaps I'm going against the grain here, but I felt this was a wow bottle, for the difference it showed to other Veuve vintages if nothing else.
Quite fruity, fresh and balanced. Fantastic mousse, lovely creamy, standout mouthfeel (really expansive, is that the Chardonnay?). Possibly lacked a little bite from the acidity - which may not make it built for the long haul.
Outrageously acidic at first, but begins to show some lees, lemon, honey, and hazelnut along with an expanding sweetness to find balance. Super tasty after a few hours, yum.

It was more easy drinking than some vintage Champagne. It got a little bit of everything: toasty and citrus; on the palate, gentle and soft, enough acidity with honey-ish finish and some yeasty. All there but all not too much. I quite like the balanced combination. Not a wow bottle but very pleasant, not over-characteristic and you can easily have glass by glass. I enjoyed it a lot.

Extremely underwhelming. Very much in the house style, but to sum it up simply, extremely basic. Nothing going on here. Lots of pinot but nothing else going on. Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to try La Grande Dame at this tasting (it had run out), but I can't imagine it's a show stopper either, given this showing.

From a bottle, unsure of disgorgement date. Lovely medium yellow gold with plenty of fine beads. Nose a bit muted with some citrus and yeast. Palate felt quite acidic with citrus (lemon) the predominate flavour characteristic. Flavour profiles of hazelnuts, bread and chalk eventually emerged. Moderate length. The wine felt and tasted fine but did not give a sense of pleasure I expected. Am unsure if this experience is typical as I normally get on well with vintage Veuve.

Maybe this bottle was a little bit off, but there was something not quite fresh about this champagne, it was slightly bitter, still alright, with lots of bread, a bit lighter maybe. Short on mousse and bubbles. Had a mature NV the other week, and thought it was better.
Rather pale. Pear nose with a hint of honey. The taste has good vintage strength - ripe orchard fruits, with great intensity. Perhaps a little simple at this point, but a solid wine that will probably be better in 5-10 years. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Sainsbury's, on offer ~£35].

A golden yellow in colour, this Pinot dominant Champagne is in a fantastic place right now with a complex nose of brioche, almond-meal with nectarine and hints of citrus.
The palate is layered and supported by a fine bead, rich lees characters, taught acidity and mineral citrus characters play off each other.
The finish has excellent length and is a reminder of how good vintage champagne is. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2013-2018)

This is a proper champagne in a different league to the NV. Round wine, forwards and rich in the gout Anglais or fuller style. The nose is full of rich fruit, yeasty, light honey notes. On the palate it rich and full but lacks a bit of depth and vibrancy and in a way precision. Its a very good wine to enjoy at the moment but the aging capacity is on the limited side. Will not disappoint and worth its price tag. 92+

Served at Joe's Friday night to celebrated birthday. Crisp, and super well balanced. I like the Veuve vintages so much better than the NV. Fine bubbles in profusion and a long finish. Dosage was perfectly to my liking; not a hint of sweetness or bitterness.
In fairness, this wine from Veuve was a little better... still, a far cry from good Champagne and exorbitantly overpriced. Traces of minerality in the wine but mediocre fruit and intensity.

fruit acidity and inerality seem to offset one another perfectly with fine mousse and medium long finish, I have seen less than stellar reviews and I am not sure about their provenence and storage but this was bought from Buckley on release and stored cold in one cellar if that is the difference

Although it finishes a bit short too. Might be a bit below par somehow; not convincing on this tasting.

Quite fruity, fresh and balanced. Fantastic mousse, lovely creamy, standout mouthfeel (really expansive, is that the Chardonnay?). Possibly lacked a little bite from the acidity - which may not make it built for the long haul.

Medium yellow-gold. Doughy, chalky, cinnamon toasty nose. More simple on the palate, with just very faint fruit. This may not have a lot of years left, but is well balanced and quite pleasant now. Chez DW & LW.

Bright straw color with small bubbles. Pleasant taste and a finish that stayed around for a while.

For a vintage champagne, pretty disappointing this go-around. There was not much complexity, and the wine was flabby overall. Maybe it's a 2004 thing?

This is a proper champagne in a different league to the NV. Round wine, forwards and rich in the gout Anglais or fuller style. The nose is full of rich fruit, yeasty, light honey notes. On the palate it rich and full but lacks a bit of depth and vibrancy and in a way precision. Its a very good wine to enjoy at the moment but the aging capacity is on the limited side. Will not disappoint and worth its price tag. 92+

4th Saturday Annual Champagne Event (Sue & Mike's): A bit reticent. Baked apple and mineral nuances, doughy overtones. Apple and roasted nut flavors on the palate.

Served at Joe's Friday night to celebrated birthday. Crisp, and super well balanced. I like the Veuve vintages so much better than the NV. Fine bubbles in profusion and a long finish. Dosage was perfectly to my liking; not a hint of sweetness or bitterness.

Very very young and not easy to assess. Slim and autolytic.

In fairness, this wine from Veuve was a little better... still, a far cry from good Champagne and exorbitantly overpriced. Traces of minerality in the wine but mediocre fruit and intensity.

Good potential here with nice balance of acid and biscuity finish. Tightens up fairly quickly at this stage. Looking forward to trying this again in 2+ years.

Medium(-) lemon-golden, fine mm-bubbles, consistently emanating. Medium autolytic aromas of yeast, brioche, lemon, hazelnuts. Dry, medium(+) fresh zest acidity, medium body and alcohol. Medium flavours of lemon zest, citrus, nuts. Medium(+) length, zest finish with bread and almonds brought in. Very fine mouth-hugging mousse. Rich palate, good structure, and light-footed. Complex and elegant. An excellent champagne.

Finally one that tastes like champagne, this is inoffensive but rather soft and watery.

Drank on Emirates flight. Quite yeasty on the nose, complex flavours of apricots, digestive biscuits. Loved it.

These vintage Vueve Clicquot wines are really good. It was fun because we had it side by side with the regular NV. It is in a great spot right now. Vibrant, bright hanging green fruit, lively, full and very feminine.

Wine Spectator's Grand Tour, Washington DC 2012 (Ronald Reagan Building): like many 2004's I've had, the fruit in this was light, the ending was classic Veuve with a caramel and nougat taste, nice balance, good structure
