Considering this wine is 21 years old, and just on the top of the mountain, it was wonderful ! Would rate a higher score , say maybe 95 plus if I had it a few years ago It still has much fruit , cherry and black fruits , well integrated and pure dark purple with long legs.

From Coravin unit a 2 oz. pour to assess: Stewed plums and red licorice on the nose. Nice balance of acids and dark fruit, strawberry and vanilla with cherry syrup on the finish. Mellowed tannins make for a silky mouth feel. In a nice place now. Will drink the rest within a year based on this taste.

Amazing wine. Such structure and length, everything in balance. The fruit is still concentrated, with black fruits to the fore. The tannins are supple and refined. There is a long, drying finish. At 13 years old this wine feels fresh and vibrant. I don't see any reason why this won't last at least 10 more years.

10x20 Victorian Tasting (Customs House, Sydney, Australia): Vanilla, some smoked meat, mocha and plum aromas. There is great density on the palate supported by some impressive tannin structure and lifted by a gentle minerality element. Excellent carry through to the finish. Should happily continue to develop over the next 10-15 years.

Medicinal nose with broad vanilla base. Color dark red, purple, black, is opaque except around the rim which is brick colored. Candied fruit flavors, lively acidity, only notice the tannins on the long finish. Not a bad wine, but how anyone can think Georgia's Paddock is great, let alone mention them in the same sentence as Grange is nothing more than hype.

Aussie Shiraz (Waterford Wines Milwaukee): menthol, eucalyptus, and BBQ spice on the nose. iron and mineral on the palate. too much tannin without the richness of fruit. eh...

Closed nose, Sort tannin, short compared to what I expect from Jasper Hill Shiraz. Ron Laughton thinks this wine is in a "hole." Something that happens to all his wine from 2-3 years old.

2004 WS Wine Experience: Syrah/Shiraz Tasting (Hyatt Regency, Chicago): Represented on the dais by Ron Laughton, owner/winemaker, who noted that the grapes descend from vines that arrived from Hermitage 150 years ago and are planted in deep red soil. The wine is “made in non-interventionist fashion and is unracked, unfined, unfiltered”. Full-on Aussie nose of shoe polish, coconut and vinyl. Lots of blueberry on the palate, with black olive, pepper and herbal notes. Finishes with vibrant acidity and a smoky minerality. Superb balance and a velvety mouthfeel. Laughton “expects all his wines to last 20+ years, but prefers to drink them within 2 years after release or after seven years from the vintage date”. $75.

Dark fruit and Christmas spice on nose. Blackberry, cinnamon and wood spice to taste. Smooth tannins and long lasting finish and mouth feel

10x20 Years Victorian Tasting (Custom House, Circular Quay, Sydney): I think the wine was a bit too forward and oxidised - on the nose there was still some leathery black fruit but the mouth was very astringent and bitter.
