Yellow brownish and over the hill and oxidized but undeniably Chenin with honeyed waxy fruit shining through the nutty oxidation. While heading downhill, this was still drinkable if you like the oxidized style and could have passed for a natural wine of that type in a blind tasting. Not what it should have been but still a bit interesting.

Golden yellow. Typical Chenin Blanc aromas with honey, citrus and chalky minerals. Rather tart and skinny for a Papillon. I have had a few 1999's that were better.

Bright golden colour, like liquid sun. Nose of honeysuckle, lime and melon. All these in the mouth too, but honey not honeysuckle of course. Hay and something nicely bitter. Minerality and fairly high acidity. Clean and fresh still, good length. Maybe lacking a little in depth or concentration. Nice balance, fine flavours. Very enjoyable wine, some depth and a lot of originality.

Utrolig mineralsk, konsentrert og lang. Erketypisk chenin blanc. En vin jeg virkelig koser meg med - et herlig alternativ til all denne rieslingen og chardonnayen man tyller i seg til vanlig...

Pale yellow gold in the glass. Delicate and restrained on the nose with honeysuckle, minerals, and fresh lime. The aromas are really subtle and have tones of sweetness, flowers, and minerals. The palate is also delicate with subtle sweet fruit, fresh acidity, and round mouthfeel. The flavors include citrus, wax, melon, hay, and some subtle spices on the finish. This is a zingy but supple dry wine that has tremendous elegance and restraint. With a little air and warmth this does start to pick up some honeyed tone and minerality to the fruit. Seems to lack density but you have to like the elegance and juiciness exhibited by this wine.

A glutton for punishment, I opened another bottle. The last one was an anomaly (or was it the taster...). A good, not great, vintage, this bottle displayed lemon, verbena, and wet wool. Baumard's 'Papillon' seems to have a distinctive profile of aromas and flavors; I think I could identify it blind in most vintages.

Just awful. Identifiably Chenin-like aromas and flavors had turned somewhat acrid. The color was fine, the cork appeared in good condition, but this was undrinkable. Down the drain.

This didn't really show any better then the regular '99 Savennieres. Bright acidity. Not impressed at first, but then find myself enjoying drinking it, maybe because it remains well balanced?

My first Savennieres. Crisp fruit on nose and a touch of sweetness on front of palate (unripe plum), then a heavy oily body, finishing long and dry and mineral. The body is reminiscent of a well-aged Burgundy Chard, slightly buttery and heavy. Certainly heavier and more substantial than I'd have expected from a Loire white. Quite a treat.

a bit less friendly than the last bottle...more angles and sharp edges. still has a beautiful, long honeyed finish but some of the elegance of the prior bottle was missing. still, tough to beat this for value and quality.

At the White Hart Inn, Nayland, Suffolk - £25 from the list. Medium straw yellow. Medium dry, full bodied with lots of honey and minerals, quite intense, lingering finish with a few citrusy hints. Could do with a bit more acidity to balance the residual sugar. Good/very good.

Carrollton, TX OL (Amici's): More of a light golden yellow with background scents of honey. Very refined acidity results in a nicely crisp wine. Tasted single blind at an OL.

Tasted July 12, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Weiss Wein glass. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of grass, orange, lime, grapefruit and maybe even some nutmeg. Light flavors of grapefruit, maybe some gooseberry and a little orange. Light to medium acidity, light to medium bodied. Drink now. Based on the local retail price I paid of $21.59 I’d say the value here is recommended for immediatel consumption.

I love this wine! Still young , but delicious, with notes of fresh honey, flowers, citrus, hay. Smooth and silky in the mouth with a mile long honey finish. In my book, Savennieres is right up there with white burgs (at least today!).

This wine peaked and was highly oxidized. Tasted at times more like sherry than wine. The sugars have given out and no fruit remained
