  • Opened my last bottle of this with fingers crossed and the wine gods smiled on me. Similar to my last bottle, probably a touch better. Pretty violet-toned fruit is complimented by notes of gravel, saddle leather, dust and pipe tobacco. Fully mature, flirting with generic old wine territory, but still on the right side (good fill in this bottle).
Drink 'em if you've got 'em.

  • Cork crumbled. Color good, dark, but not bricking or browning. Not a big nose, but inviting. Certainly the taste if a very mature wine, but good fruit and acid along with well integrated tannins.

  • On opening this is all secondary aromas and flavors; saddle leather, tobacco and very, very mature. With time in the decanter this began to show pretty blackberries on the nose and entry. The bretty, leathery aromas came into balance as well. With air the nose started to show blackberries, violets, and plum, backed by a savory and leathery base. The palate became interesting showing black fruits, leather, tobacco and cigar box. The non-fruit flavors come in a secondary wave making up the middle and backside/ finish. Not much for a gravelly note here. This was pleasant but certainly tired.

  • cork completely soaked through but still in very good shape. color is still excellent, deep ruby red with no sign of bricking even at the edge. nose is reticent, has a tang to it, though in general not giving much at first.

palate reveals a full evolved wine with no discernible tannin after 2 hours open. still fresh and alive with slightly smoky flavours, a well-balanced wine but practically no fruit remains.

  • Had with boeuf bourguignonne - a very polished wine, again from Seckfords. Nicely graduated rim, Oranges and violets on nose, tannins grip in the right places, loads of fruit still in there - damsons, a touch of mango and plums and good length. Drinking absoultely brilliantly right now.
