Too bad it was my last one. Decanted for 2 hours and drinking perfect. Showed less sediment than expected, still showed some nice magenta highlights in the color. On the palate were berries, plum, earth and spice and the acid, fruit, tannin balance still in tact - loved the wine.
This bottle, purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, was decanted and serially tasted over a 2-3 hour period. It is still quite deep ruby/red, and the nose shows moderately intense aromas of cassis, Asian spices and cedar. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity, medium residual angular tannins and well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.2%). The flavors are similar to the nose and the middle palate is solid. The medium-length finish is a bit astringent. While certainly pleasant, this wine has not developed into anything special despite more than a decade of cellaring. The nose and flavors are not particularly complex and the tannins are still a bit rough. I doubt that it will get any better, but the wine (assuming properly cellared) should remain quite drinkable for several more years. Drink now-12/17.
Ruby color, with light edges. Medium bodied. Aromas of cedar, leather. Supple, well rounded tannins. Flavors of cedar, leather, red fruit and mocha. Not as deep and complex as some of my favorites from the '99 vintage, but this was pretty good for a $25 wine.
Average nose, though vegetal tones. Decanted this bottle immediately and poured a small glass after 20 minutes of vigorous aeration.
Through 2 hours of drinking, vegetal (asparagus/grilled leek) expression in both nose and front/mid palate. Light red fruit began to come through about 45 minutes in, though it didn't explode like I'd hoped.
I'll probably hold my other bottle of this for another 3-4 years to see what happens
Bright disc. Deep ruby robe with red rim. Clean nose, showing ripe, forward black currants, cassis, plum and bing cherry. Moderately oaked, with good acidity, medium alcohol and ample but fairly supple tannins. Medium-bodied, with similar flavors as the nose throughout the mid-palate, followed by a smooth finish which adds a long, lingering coffee flavor. Very nice Napa Valley Cabernet, especially for the price.
