Garnet color in the glass, a little dusty looking. Nose of tar, flowers and berries. Flavors of raspberries, red berries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink now.

Riper nose than the 04 from what I remember. This smells of raspberry jam, black pepper and tart plum. Fruit upfront is round and quite sweet. There is some decent acidity that follows the fruit creating a fairly long finish. It's nice, but there is a lot of fruit going on. Glad I only bought 1.

Deep purple color, with a nose of brambly black fruit and dark chocolate. More briary/brambly sin fruit on the palate, with just a tiny hint of vanilla. Very balanced zin, and drinking very well right now.

Took this to an zinfandel offline. Some people really liked it and voted it the WOTN. I thought it was good but liked the Martinelli better. Notes of blackberry, bramble, clove, and peppercorns. Very intense and concentrated. While drinking well now, I think it could use more time to soften up a bit. 91-92 points.

A bit hot and overblown, with a little raisined jamminess starting to intrude on what used to be a relatively balanced zin. This seems to be getting more out-of-balance over time, as my first bottle was the most enjoyable, and it's been downhill from there.

this is a zin from the old days, well integrated tastes of blackberry, brambles, licorice. the alcohol is well integrated and this is just one smoth wine. i love Eric's offerings!!

Initially a little hot. After being open for an hour the red fruit comes through. Nice complexity with some earth and cherry notes. Finishes well. May need a few more years at this point.

(hualalai) decided on the great beef tenderloin at Alan Wong's and thought this would pair well. Disappointed in this bottle and think it was off. Decent fruit, really jammy berries, but mid palate through finish really dominated by the wood. Not consistnent with multiple other showings. Mid 80's Rating withheld.

Hot buttered rum and boysenberry on a potent nose. Full bodied, powerful, pure, and balanced- dark briar, rassberry, ripe cherry with some pine on the mid palate, and ideal acidity on the finish. Really a great, interesting zin, with character and strength. Drinking great right now.

Delicious up front fruit with a great black depth and spine. Relatively low acid, briary goodness, and persistence makes this a wine that keeps making you reach for your glass. I personally could have used a little more acid, as it gives sweet fruit a zing like SweeTarts. None of the sur-maturite and port-like elements of Turley(yawn). My only, albeit unrelated, question is, could I ever rate a zin over 95 points?

Superbly balanced zin. There was no hint of heat in this one and at 15.4% alcohol that is a winemaking feat. This zin also had a nice amount of acidity which added to the enjoyment of the wine.

Raspberry with hints of forest floor on the nose. Raspberry juice on steroids, briery with nice peppery finish. Full bodied but with enough acidity to make it less tiresome to drink than it might be otherwise.

Hmmm, I expected to like this a bit more than I did. A little too brambly, peppery? Well-made, but a bitterness in the flavor profile that wasn't my thing tonight.

<Hualalai @ home - Nate/Heath/Bradford/Peter/Luis/Elisebetta - Pork Loins, Artichoke and Summer Pastas> Really impressed by the 03 Version of Eric's Zin. Really concentrated, rich rasberries but never out of balance. Nice acidity and noticeable tannins. After about 30-45 minutes this was open for business. Really rich and deep, but wonderfully crafted and well balanced. For my palate, this is a prototype Zin.

<Cellar Design MTG with BEbel> This was damn enjoyable. Sussman really shows off his deft touch with this wine. So much wonderful complexity and interest with a varietal that I often find lacking in this regard. A thinking persons Zin? Red and Black Cherries and Rasperries. But there is also an interesting floral element to the nose and some exotic (carribean jerk?) spices. Big fruit carries on to the palate, but decent underlying acidity keeps it from being heavy or out of balance. Finish really lingers. A wine that is really hard to put down. I have no basis or background to prognosticate, but I could see this getting better with a little age/air.

Spicy nose of eucalyptus red berry and red raspberry coulis. Very much like a Mike Officer wine but tending a bit more toward cooler climate and red fruit. Creamy textured with pepper. Nicely balanced given the stated alcohol. Later it reminded me more of a Zinfandel made by a Pinot Noir producer, like Hartford Court.

2003 Radio Coteau "Old Vine" Zinfandel. Gorgeous nose of raspberry-boysenberry fruit, with a nice sappy jasmine scent. Smooth texture, excellent balance, and long tasty finish.

Radio Coteau Barrel Tasting (Taft Street Winery, Sebastapol, CA): Barrel Tasting: WOW! Had this wine last and it left a truly great impression. Best integrated wine of those tasted. Wonderful nose with amazing, powerful fruit. Balanced with a long finish. I am hoping that the 2002 I purchased tastes this good. Will definitely buy this when released.
