Always sad to see the last bottle go but drank well with the Christmas turkey - possibly beginning to fade gently away into a soft brambly fruit cocktail losing some of its earthy complexities but Chevillon wine very rarely disappoints and this one certainly did not
Open nose offers chunky aromas of earth, beets, blood and spice. The palate is a nice balance between fruit and soil with the structure to suggest that this wine will age longer. I did detect a slight dry note on the back side of the finish. While I'm not a fan of Chevillon in general as the wines tend to be too rustic for my taste this wine is a success and has enough finese and fruit to hold my interest. I think it is drinking well now and showcases the '99 vintage well.
Note from memory. My first wine from this well regarded producer. Definitely a "beefy" NSG. Very dark, dense, packed with fruit and slow to open. Changed little over a two hour period. Really serious. Would like to be able to try it again in 10 years when some of the power it showed has evolved into other flavors. Impressive wine.
