Rhone, lots of it (Chicago, IL): Initially, some potentially interesting elements with orange peel taking a prominent role, but then there's some old oxidative elements, followed by a bitter, likely oak-tainted finish. Par for the course for Chapoutier: bad.

thoroughly enjoyed the educational part about this wine. it was oxidized enough to give the notes of lightly roasted nuts but wasn't enough to call it flawed. had lovely notes of pears and golden apples but lacked acidity to truly enjoy this wine. definitely a conversational piece - wouldn't serve it to anyone who is not a "wine geek"

I shared a bottle of this nectar with some friends during dinner at a restaurant (FYI -- $81 off the menu, which did not seem too bad). Splendid. Rich, full, unctuous, all those types of words/tastes. A perfect white Rhone.

Really wondering where this one will go... Clear yellow/gold in the glass. Older nose of butterscotch, honey and wet hay. In the mouth nicely viscous with firm acidity and a nutty finish which lingers on the mid-palate. Of course aging quite a bit better than any New World Marsanne/Roussannes I've had but I'm wondering if this one is on its way out. Either way, a nice drink tonight and I'm happy I caught it where I did.

This wine is at the end of its life, but still offered some interest and pleasure. Deep golden color, muted nose of sherry led me to believe it might be oxidized, but very nice rich honey, pear brandy and oily texture on the palate showed some verve and life.

Bordeaux Tasting, Dallas, Texas (IL Sole Restaurant & Wine Bar): Beautiful deep gold color that smelled of mature pear with a hint of toasted honey that forecasted a powerful wine. Very balanced and refined acidity and tannins with a lingering finish. Loved this wine—it was smooth, refined, yet refreshing on a hot day. 91-93

Gold, old, intense, earthy, fruity aromas with a musty edge. Muted on the palate, but with a nice oily feel. The flavors did not sustain, as the wine is clearly on its last legs. There is enough of quality there that is recognizable, though, to warrant drinking the other two bottles in this trio of fire-sale wines. Perhaps the one greenish-hued bottle will have some life left in it.

Tasted at WIML off-line at the Speakeasy Supper Club. Gold color. Delicious honey-laced flavors, with some wet stone and lavender notes. Very pretty in the mouth. Falls a bit short at the finish, as the acidity is nearly fully diminished. But a nice bargain-bin find by jcubed. Drink now.

Didn't take notes, but this was very unctuous, complex, mature and lovely. For me, our bottle was at its peak, not on its last legs.
