Medium plus red color with a 5mm bricked edge. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 2 hours plus and a glass the following night. Its been 5 years since my last bottle when I said this has years left. Well, in a word: Stunning. This looks to be at peak now, though it was even better the following evening. Sensuously perfumed nose of blissful dried forest floor, potpourri, saddle leather, red berries, awesome baking spices, cinnamon, menthol, and hints of darker berries. The palate is lithe and feminine, sleek and so well balanced, the tannins are integrated and polished, there's so much dried earth and evocative spice notes mixed with red raspberry, strawberry and deeper black raspberry fruits, red cherry and leather. Geez, this has fantastic lift and everything has fallen into place. Great bottle. All of 95pts and maybe more.

Rich and ripe black and red berries on nose and palate with slightly sweet spice notes. A bit of new oak still seems pronounced, but there is very good weight and substance here that hold this all together very nicely. Still very fresh.

On Lopez. Dark ruby. Served too cold but as the wine warmed up it released scents of damp cellar, floral notes, raspberry, earth. Fresh and concentrated on the palate with layers of black raspberry, Bing cherry, iodine, tea leaves, and fine stone. Brilliantly acidic, balancing firm but smoothed tannin. Longer finish of dark fruit and bits of iron. Just as impressive as the bottle consumed 3 months ago.

First sampling of this since purchase 13 years ago. Darker ruby. Nose of raspberry, brambly soil, violets, soothing blue fruits. A core of beautifully ripe but mature black cherry fruit girded by a fine-grained array of savory soil and iron on the palate. Freshening acidity and moderated tannin leading to a long finish of deepening black raspberry fruit, satin, spice, and iron particles. Exceedingly satisfying, a great showing.
Deep ruby, exceptional nose of bright berries and not quite mint herb, no tinge of age. Instantaneous Beaux Freres bottling spritz on the tongue, bright fruit with relaxed acid, nice balance of fruit filling mid range palate. If not for my distaste personal stem and leaf I would rate much higher. (Equivalent dislike of cheap Burgundy unripe fruit.)

Covid-19 Intro/Retro (Chez Hughes): Blind. A dead ringer for Burgundy with whole cluster. Forward, attractive, intense nose of stemmy, spice black cherry with earth and clay notes. The palate has moderately concentrated red and black cherry with a serious stem signature. Most were in the old world. Lots of guesses for Gevrey or Dujac. Strong showing.

Pure strawberry. Some sweet and more sour. Smooth. Light but deceptive medium length finish. Wine had a fair amount of sediment. We didn’t stand it up for extended period and should have. Used coffee filters to help filter it. Enjoyed it more than I expected. Just enough elegance to make it a 93, which was probably a benefit of time. Can see wine softening further with time. But don’t see it moving up in score.

Tremendous from start to finish - one of the best all-around bottles I’ve had in a while! Exceptionally well balanced and pleasantly mature (though still only minimally tertiary), the wine was firing on all cylinders from rich yet vibrant fruit to savoury mulled spices and hickory. The quality of fruit is evident; Beaux Frères achieves this through biodynamic farming and special attention paid to their well positioned vineyard sites. Aside from the use of a portion of new oak barrels, winemaking is performed with minimal intervention techniques to allow the wine’s true character to emerge - said new oak does lend flavours and structure to the wine, but at this age is perfectly integrated rather than imposing. I’ll admit, I was surprised to find this drinking as fresh as it did, and as noted above, with a ways to go in terms of tertiary qualities. That said, this wine is in a perfect spot - find some, drink up, and enjoy to the last drop.

This was one of a tasting of mature new world Pinot Noirs I organized for an Easter ham dinner. The tasting consisted of a 2006 Sea Smoke Southing, a 2008 Kosta Browne Kanzler and a 2005 Beaux Frères Ribbon Ridge. All were very good to excellent with mature earthy flavors predominant. The Kosta Browne retained a bit more fruit than the others which made it the favorite with the young palates at the table but it was my #2 wine just ahead of the Southing. My preference was for the Beaux Frères which had a somewhat lighter palate with outstanding balance and excellent acidity and more life left in it for further aging if desired. All were very enjoyable and provided an excellent broadening experience for everyone's palate.

Medium red color. PNP, drank 2+ glasses over 3 hours. Mmm, this was drinking very well. Very pretty nose, the kind you can settle in with for the evening. Great perfume of incense, dried roses, dried earth, red fruits and hints or blueberry. The palate is medium plus bodied, layered and deep with red and blue fruits, spice, lavender, and leather on an earthy core. Darn good and a real nice Burgundy ringer. No worries on these either, they've got some years left.

From magnum. When first opened, the wine seemed a bit tight and one dimensional. But the wine blossomed wonderfully with two hours to breathe. This wine is very much like a French burgundy and not like most American pinot noirs.

This was absolutely singing. Aging beautifully with light red fruits and herbs on the nose that transitioned on to the palate. Great mouth feel and balance, subtle and lingers on the palate. Shame we only had one bottle as it was a great bottle of pinot.

I think that either I waited too long to drink this or something was wrong with it. The bottle initially had some "effervescence" in it. Also like it was "bubbly" or something. It settled down after about 30 minutes but it gave everyone who initially tasted it and negative reaction.

At home, something to enjoy while packing for a trip to Turks and Caicos...PnP, splash decanted and drank over 90 minutes.
Consistent with prior notes: "Medium/light ruby color, clear, mild signs of aging at the rim. Earth dominant nose, red fruits, spice. Palate of bright red fruits, dusted strawberry, cherry cola, baking spice. Tannins integrated, medium finish."
What I would add is this bottle seemed a little thinner than prior bottles. May be best to drink this over the coming 2-3 years. Drinking well, unlikely to improve much

First bottle of this in more than 5 years, and I like it! Really great nose, earthy with an early cola note that faded after maybe 45 min, other notes of soft fruit (blueberry?) and a slight menthol or cedar-ish note. On the palate, rich without being cloying, medium length (probably my only quibble is a hole in the finish, doesn't go as long as I had hoped). Soft all around, no real edges - I agree with others' notes that've called it feminine.

At home with pizza, haven't visited this wine in a while...other bottles from the 05 Willamette vintage have aged nicely. Splash decanted, drank over 2 hours. Was fully opened in about 20 minutes.
Medium/light ruby color, clear, mild signs of aging at the rim. Earth dominant nose, red fruits, spice. Palate of bright red fruits, dusted strawberry, cherry cola, baking spice. Tannins integrated, medium finish.
Right in its zone, elegant and feminine wine. New world fruit, Burgundian style and feel. Should hold at this level for a few years but do not think it will improve much mire. Excellent example of BF wine that's aged nicely

New Year's Day 2016 wine evening (Kallang Way Extra Space): Poured into decanter and drank after 1 hour of air. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral violets, sweet baking spice, cola, earth, ripe red cherries, strawberries. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cola, sweet baking spices, earth, ripe red cherries, strawberries. Medium finish. Very good quality. All agreed this was rather feminine. They were actually guessing Chambolle-Musigny!? Lovely and elegant on the nose and attack. My gripe is that this fades a bit towards the finish which seems a little lacking. Drink up, I don't see this getting any better than this. Very poor QPR though, I could get an equally good Pinot for half the price elsewhere in the New World. Winery co-owned by Robert Parker.

From a mag, beautiful pinot. Blind you would have thought it was a 1er cru Gevrey. No hint of American Pinot. brickish color, very earthy nose and on the palate. Light, not heavy, but very good finish. Served along with 06 Sea Smoke Southing out of mag. The Sea Smoke was very good also, but no mistaking it for a burg. It was American pinot all the way. Still rich and bright fruits.

Pop and pour and followed for several hours. Beautiful nose of black cherry, cocoa powder, flowers, wet earth, and raspberries that with air leans more toward lilies, iodine, ink, new leather, and smoke. Black cherries, tart cherries, blackberries, flowers, citrus rind, spice, and earth on the relatively delicate but flavorful palate. Great balance. Good acidity, nice but still slightly drying tannins, long-ish finish. Overall, this was a really nice. It had that great combination of lightness and focus and was quite delicious.

NC Cindy Tasting, Pinot Noir (NC Wino's Stately Wayne Manor): The wines keep getting darker, but so far still decently translucent. This one is not purple, but solidly ruby in tone. The nose is full of sheep funk, with some strawberry but also with a considerable cough-drop-like medicinal quality. Unfortunately, the funky, medicinal character comes across in spades on the palate, and there is very little in the way of redeeming fruit. The wine is astringent to a fault, with a finish that is mouth-drying and unbalanced. Obviously, I'm not feeling this wine, but neither was anyone else at the table. It must have been a bad bottle, because our experience was completely unlike every other tasting note I see in CT, and there was nothing even close to suggesting it was worth the reported $60+ price tag.

Excellent Pinot with a medium body and length... not too light or overextracted. Dark cherry and forest floor, along with some dusky spice character that fills the palate without being overbearing. A very enjoyable bottle shared with a few CT folks, and courtesy of Wine-Strategies from the 2012 CT forum Secret Santa exchange.
In the context of the other pinots in the tasting this stood out substantially. Lots of oak but quality integration on the nose and palate. The fruit is still present but this is starting to turn secondary with herbs, flowers, and earth to complement the strawberries. Nice wine.

All is forgiven. Last bottle must have been an aberration. This bottle beautifully balanced, fruit still vibrant, not a hint of going over the hill. Served next to 2010 Pappa Piettro Perry pinot and it blew it the BF blew it away. Color still very light, but the intensity of flavor on the palate was awesome. Should have saved more bottles. Case now gone.

Garnet color in the glass, fairly clear looking. Nose of flowers, white pepper, dust and some black berries. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and a hint of bitters on the finish. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I'd drink now with a little air time.

The color was deep ruby and dense for a pinot noir which was lighter ruby to the edge. The smell was floral, spicy, with a cinnamon graham cracker note. The taste was sweet cherry, cranberry, cinnamon toast, and a green olive note. This was a light to medium bodied wine with nice complexity and a good finish.

Taste: Tastes like a wine which was just relesed. Still very primary but just starting to take on secondary characteristics. Brambly dark fruits with a jesty acidity which adds a wild streak to the wine.
Overall: I don't know what to make of this wine. I received a six-pack as a gift on release and this was the last bottle. My first experience with any vintage of Beaux Freres and I had the wine all wrong. Last year my third bottle effused autumn and was full of secondary characteristics. My last two bottles appeared to fall apart after an hour lose their fruit. Now it appears that my previous bottles were, although expressive, sleeping and shut down.

This was a fantastic expression of the 2005 vintage and very good winemaking. Intoxicating and heady nose of beautiful fresh dark earth with forest floor of some green foliage but not twiggy. Beautiful light mushrooms, dark ripe raspberries, black cherries. Wow. Tasted great too. Rich, silky texture with a touch of blueberry black tea along with the dark ripe fruits and some rhubarb and good acidity to buttress the structure of this fierce and succulent wine. Soft fine grained tannins. Long lustrous finish. Pretty much got my attention. An elegant and voluptuous beauty that held the line with funk and minerality. If this wine were a dress, she'd be wearing a deep v neck black fitted dress with dark lilac lace edging and killer black platform Prada pumps. Classic pearl necklace with edgy silver earrings. Yup. I could have smelled this wine forever. And Just plain yummy.

Good pinot nose once the ever so slight sulfur burned off. Soft sweet tart up front with some dark fruit. The mid palate lacked direction and the finish, although medium at best, was extremely pleasant. Recommend decanteing a minimum of one hour. Nice, but had just as good for half the price.

Most unusual BF I have had. Very light in color, and thin on mid palate. But beautiful nose of spice and fruits, decent finish, but it's the weight that is so unusual. I am used to their pinot's being on the dark fruit, dark spice, and deep color and flavors side of things. Not sure where this is going.

subtle notes of cream and berries, this (as noted elsewhere) is closer to a burgandy style than most Oregon Pinots. I liked the restraint and the ballance of flavors between fruit and forest floor. In its own quiet way, this is a very fine wine.

Fabulous. Bright cherry, raspberry and a little rhubarb. A slight hint of mushroom and freshly churned earth bring this all together. Finished the bottle 3 hours after sitting in decanter and it became smooth as silk. Five years treated this wine well. Still a long window ahead of it.

Last of 6 bottles, and 17 months after prior bottle, this wine continues to improve and has at least 3-5 more good years left. The uneven tightness of youth has gone away, and the wines soft rich character has developed well. A medium ruby with a great floral, cedar nose. The fruits are turning darker with time, and now hint at blueberry, dark red cherry, and ripe strawberry. Well balanced in a rich and complex style. Probably drank the first several bottles too soon.

I'm not a big Pinot fan, they are too thin, somewhat effervescent with a peculiar taste specific to Pinots that just don't agree with me, however ...... this is one of the better Pinots I've had, more body then what I'm used to, not as thin, good fruit with enough balance and structure to make it enjoyable.. I personally don't think any Pinot is worth $50+ but then that's just me.

WCC Oregon Pinot Noir Tasted Blind (Salty's Pub, Clifton Park, NY): Complex nose. Big and rich. Very far from classic Burgundy, but quite appealing in a thick grapey sort of way. Intensely ripe, almost syrupy. Not typical of Pinot, but still quite appealing. Good with Short Ribs of Beef.

Nice wine, spice notes predominated for me both on the nose and palate. The nose was excellent, really aromatic and expressive. On the palate, would have preferred a little more earthyness over the spice and fruit (blueberry, cherry).

Smokey, pepper, mineral nose. Wafting a little hard on the alcohol. Taste impressions very similar with heavy mineral/earth tones paired with cherry/strawberry fruit and a touch of cedar/spice. A little heavy on the acid. All in all quite pleasant however. Minor flaws do not detract from the whole.
Needs air before drinking (I decanted) and holding up well in the bottle right now. This wine has an easy 3-5 years at minimum left on it.
Somebody else commented lacking terroir. I disagree. The mineral smoke notes are heavy in the air when you visit these vineyards. If anything this wine completely captures the terroir.

Taut upon opening leading with a somewhat floral nose that hints at red berries and mint. Darker purple color is also misleading in that the wine is lighter in style, with wild berry flavors that change darker as the wine is open. Good acidity and a balanced interesting finish that brings some spice or cedar to go along with the evolving fruit flavors.

Effect of price on quality: do we lower our rating for a high-priced commodity since we should expect a high-quality product in the first place? If we were giving numbers this would certainly be a 90+, far superior to almost all of the 87 - 90 PNs from Oregon or anywhere. One steeps in a massively pungent aroma, akin to wollowing in a mossy, dank bank of violets, before experiencing an explosive raspberry fruit with layers of leather and spice. It lingers long upon the palate. A degree towards Burgundian, as opposed to New World. There was also the sense of a slight spritz at the beginning. Dulcie gave it her various thumbs up; but then we say, hey, at $70 it should be.

The nose of this wine had lightly candied cherry and raspberry fruits with some notes of pencil lead and eventually a little mint. The palate had strawberry and raspberry flavors. Medium bodied wine with a medium length finish. I really expected more from this bottle. We drank this bottle over 3 days, and it improved slightly as each day passed, but not enough to be worth the tariff.

The Wine Summit 2007: Beaux Frères - Saturday, June 2, 2007 - 9:00 A.M. (The Post Hotel - Lake Louise, AB): Production hampered due to the weather, which was described as “rain and then more rain”. A split canopy approach, where one side is opened up to the sun, was employed to help with the low sugars. Some 2700 cases produced. Colour purple/pink ruby; attractive light berry aromas – mostly cherry; interesting texture – a bit fuzzy on the palate – licorice laced cherry fruit and some oak showing; quite a long finish which carried the flavours through. Given that there were significant difficulties with the vintage, this turned out to be a pretty attractive wine.

Nose: Black fruits with herbs. Really nice.

Yup.

One steeps in a massively pungent aroma, akin to wollowing in a mossy, dank bank of violets, before experiencing an explosive raspberry fruit with layers of leather and spice. It lingers long upon the palate. A degree towards Burgundian, as opposed to New World. There was also the sense of a slight spritz at the beginning. Dulcie gave it her various thumbs up; but then we say, hey, at $70 it should be.
