Drank in a killer lineup of Italian wines, this showed very well. A soundly kept bottle with a perfect cork, there was a little mustiness that needed to blow off. At that point, you have well resolved, not overripe darkened fruit tones with black raspberry and cherry, silky but rather full bodied texture. Stood up for about 2 weeks prior and it needed that. No decant.

From memory This was excellent after a few hours air. Showed a dark fruit profile initially, but added lift and notes of elegance with air. Still rather brooding palate and tannins but after a few hours was quite nice of holding back some power. nose has some initial VA that blew off.

Cafe Carducci (Cafe Carducci, Verona): Mahogany hue in the glass. Its bouquet is captivating with heady notes of leather polish, marinated red cherries, and balsamic, all lifted by a floral aroma with touches of liquorice. A highly engaging nose that intermingles elegance and finesse with a sense of refinement. The palate is finely-grained in texture, mid-bodied with a delightfully bright acidity adding refreshment. Deep layers of complexity with umami flavours, marinated cherry, and more tertiary fruits are seamlessly mixed with leather undertones. The tannins have a tight grip, light flesh, and fine grain, contributing to a linear palate shape: exceptional length and remarkable complexity.

Opened and served 30 mins later. Dried cherries, herbs, a smoke-tar element, a light VA overlay which adds an extra aspect of elegance to the wine. Really lovely, fully mature and towards the back end of its peak. ****+

What an impressive wine. Needed a little time in the glass to open up. Still plenty of fruit and depth left but it is really all about controlled elegance. It does have a little VA like most Quintarelli wines but it doesn't disturb the other flavors.

An amazing expression of valpolicella. Nose is tar and dried cherries. Palate is full of earth, black tea, sour cherries. Lovely integration of tannins in the finish. Full of complexity I can't even identify fully. A sublime wine with a prime porterhouse beautifully rare, and classic mashed potatoes. Nirvana.

TN: Quintarelli, Dal Forno, Bussola, Caprai, Bea ++: Really nice showing for this wine. It had about 7 hours of breathing before being served. The nose is nice. Earthy with some dried cherries. Also a bit of maraschino cherries. Complex and layered. Some forest floor notes along with cherries on the palate. A delicious wine.

Very distinctive wine... lots of old barrique funky Corvina aromas (ripe floral dark cherry thing)... on the palate still quite fresh and acidic with integrated tannins that are quite mild in impact. Very well balanced wine with great length and complexity, very good intensity. Has finesse, a fine texture, very good expression of place. Feels like it is at its peak so drink up...

Opened bottle and let rest 1 hour before dinner - I was worried about decanting given the age but this really improved with air time. On nose, apricots, earthy, dried cherry, black tea & medicinal overtones. On palate, flavors consistent with nose and full bodied, with high acidity & very long finish with some tannins still noticeable - this was a wine you don't notice how fast you can drink even though it is full bodied. High acids refreshed the palate (we had it with grilled NY Strips) and enjoyable on its own given the age. Beautiful wine and would buy again - 93+/- range.

Well, first we discussed for about ten minutes if this was corked or not, then we agreed that it wasn't and then we started drunking it. Very sweet, some dried red berried, some herbs and a lot of horse sweat and stables. Imagine smearing some high end black chocolate on a vintage hermes saddle, delicious! Like the wine a lot but it lacks personality and uniqueness to merit a higher score. The 1994 is way better!

Another very nice wine from the wine master of Veneto. Less expensive and yet so good. See the green label (as opposed to the yellow label of the more posh goose)

Notes from memory and had just one glass, but i found this to be at a beautiful age, drinking very well. Had earthy elements, as well as soft black cherry and a bit of lilac. My style.

At babbo. Elegant and beautiful wine. Nose and complexity reminded me of a fine burg. Everyone at the table liked this better than the 98 Giacosa Santo Stefano Riserva.
