  • Smells of brie rind, and honey. The palate is dense with buckwheat honey, lime and a hint of toffee. Long finish that hints at sweetness though the wine is more salty than sweet.

  • I agree with Cheryl - this is a fantastic wine. Beautiful gold in color. Slightly sweet. Golden nectar. Who needs d'Yquem if you can drink this?

  • Just a beautiful wine from start to finish. My WOTN. Gold colored, apples, caramel, apricots, balanced sweetness, not cloying. Not a lot of acid, but I still think there are many years to go on this. Fantastic wine.

  • Wow - what an amazing wine! This wine had all the refinement that the age would suggest, but with a bright youthfulness that could go for another 20+ years. Everything about this was in perfect balance - the sweetness was just right, the acidity crisp and refreshing and the finish long. Pairing with blue cheese was perfect!

  • The end of an evening of Baumard wines (2003 Trie Speciale, 1997 Trie Speciale, 1989 Clos Papillon).

I have tasted many vintages of Baumard QdC and although this vintage is among the weakest, it also ranks as the most mature and interesting I have tasted. Extraordinary orange/umber hue (a bottle of Crown Royal in the back of the room was lighter in color)-- nose of apricot, honey, exotic spice; palate of apricot, nectarine, candied citrus zest, minerals (quinine in particular), bracing acidity, impeccable balance, and finish that easily lasted > 1 minute with nuances of these same flavors playing over and over. Ethereal balance.

All 5 tasters present thought the 1989 Clos Papillon was the most profound white wine we had ever tasted, but felt this wine was at a whole other level of profound.
