Much nicer than an earlier bottle opened in January of this year. Big big nose of fruits, spice and a touch of forest floor. On the palate its still got a touch of jammy fruits but well integrated. The 14% alcohol is not noticeable. A classic Zin with a little age.
All in all, a nice maturing bottle that still has years of life ahead of it.

Med dark red. Wild berry and exotic spice odours jump out of the glass. Dark berry, vanilla, cream. This is concentrated, fresh and unctuous. Tannin is firm but tamed by the creaminess on the medium long finish.

Starting to wobble and fall out of balance. Acids beginning to poke through and the balance is now off. This bottle was still drinkable but nothing interesting.

Big, rich nose, filled with black cherries, plums, and lingering strawberries. Color is deep purple, a hint of age showing on the edges. Luscious mouthfeel, as if soft velvet is caressing the palate. Tannins are firm, though well integrated. All sorts of fruit happening here, most notably the cherries and black plums, with ripe blackberries making a strong showing as well. Evokes memories of our last visit to the St. Helena farmers market a few years back, with all the hedonistic delights to be had there. This grape juice is showing phenomenally right now, hugely better than when I last partook of it. Yummy! The best Zin I've had in some time.

Not as good as we expected. Waaaay too much Aliconte (16%) Good Zin funk but with a sweetness that is off putting in the wine. With pork BBQ (Barbeque). Recommended with reservations. For Butch Smiley’s 50th.

Medium to deep ruby color. Nose of bright fruit, black raspberry and boysenberry, dry grain and smoke. Understated on the palate, slightly thinned out but very friendly and drinkable wine. 90+ pts.

Some bricking at the rim (but very thin rim), otherwise a deep burgundy core. Typical rhubarb, coffee, Zin funk with excellent depth and mouthfeel. This could use some more aging as it seems to be developing a claret-likeness. Some sediment clinging to the shoulder. 14% alc. With pork barbeque (BBQ). Recommended.

Jewel purple. Smoky nose as before. complex. I have added a point. This is just nice. The finish just tightens and the fruit is squeezed out. Bright cherries & strawberries. Needs time but will mellow into a real complex wine, just a bit in your face right now. This is really best with a bit of food, the acid is pretty tight and explodes with some nibbles.

I thought this was outstanding, Zin at its best - deep ruby colour, deep rich nose of dark berries, blackberry jam, a slight sense of bramble - well balanced fruity but with good structure, acidity - oak very well judged, with v good length, this was excellent

P&P - Very interesting nose, tar, smoke, burnt caramel, black roasted fruits, jumps out of the glass. Nice light glycerin mouth feel, rushes to fill the palate with nice raspberries, strawberry kiwi fruit, candied sweets, bit of fall spices, clove, blood. Smoke roasted fruits on the finish, lingering, very nice wine. Wow.

When I drink Ridge, I always think, "Why don't I drink more Ridge?" This was a terrific example of Ridge in its bigger, riper form. Nose needed some air, but when it opened up, it was beautiful. Ripe cherry and black fruit, along with a killer spice mentality. In the mouth, ripe and voluptuous, gliding across the palate with tons of fruit, loads of spice, and good acidity. Long finish. Delicious. A-

14% alc...the fruit at this point to me is tart and austere - acidity seems out of whack and the tannins are odd. The wine is interesting enough, but I'd rather spend my money elsewhere thus my ending ATP / Z List. Ridge has fallen off for me or my palate. Will update the note if something changes overnight.

Lush and velvety. Some nice heat but with very balanced finish. Lovely dark berries, jammy fruit with soft white pepper. Soft and very zin-like. One of my favorite Ridge Zinfandels in 2004.

Took the plunge here, wasn't expecting this wine to be ready, but notes in CT indicated the wine was ready for business..the nose was ripe blackberry, dusty, the fruit is verging towards purple/blue tones, almost a compote of those fruits blended, not very complex on the nose, fruit is the leader in the clubhouse by many a stroke...firm, but I wouldn't call it tannic, some tart, tastes like grapes, possibly a complimentary green note, again I would call the palate grapey, never complex, simple at this point. Now the question is hold or see if complexity comes down the road?

WOW, really an opulent this time around. Very jammy, with lots of rich black fruit with cherries and plums being the most recognizable. This is slightly lower in alcohol (14.0%) than most of the zins I'm used to drinking, the nice thing being it didn't have that "hot" edge that so many zins seem to come with these days.

Beautiful vibrant purple. Yes, just PURPLE in the glass. Juicy and rich zin with very lush yet present tannins. Strawberry jam with lots of seeds. It has a very green presence on the palate. A little spicy and just thick. JAM JAM JAM JAMMY! Bottom line -- You can't go wrong with Ridge Zin.

IWFSC Cellar Inventory (Wheeling): I was really surprised by how much I liked this wine - its not a charicture of wine as so many modern zins tend to be, it's the real deal. This wine should age beautifully. Opaque purple black color. Fantastic nose of sweet black fruit, brown sugar, floral, and blackberries. Wow, surprisingly balanced rich black spicy fruit with chocolate notes. Wonderful zin.

Initially upon opening this wine seemed very very restrained, but it opened up quite well with a little air. Wonderful fruit aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, plums, anise and spice. Very smooth and elegant, fullbodied, very dark texture, very soft tannins and not that dry. Perfect balance. Cherries, blueberries, boysenberries, raspberries and some anise carry on and on with a long seamless finish. This is definately my style zin, although I prefer it to be without anise, but it is still very good. Alcohol is quite subdued even when drank with a little spicy BBQ sauce. Good thing napacabs.com still has some bottles of this!

Thin in body, raisiny, over ripe, and boring. I have had some Pagani Ranch vintages that were amazing but this isn't one of them.
