A lovely nose. Red fruits, savory herbal and soil notes with pretty stem inclusion on the nose. A wine of multiple contrasting elements that seem to come together into a greater whole. It combines the plumpness of '02 with the house style. It's at most mid weighted yet sapid and deep. Outstanding balance. Round, yet graceful with a pretty seamless mix of fruit, florals, soil and acid. Mature yet with freshness and a sense of clarity and minerality with lovely textural stem notes. Like drinking perfumed mineral water. An effortlessly graceful wine without artifice. Drinking at peak for me, and while I don't think it will fall off anytime soon, I also doubt this will improve from here. A wine that offers the rare combination of provoking thought while simultaneously being effortless easy to drink. I love CdB and this is another reason why. Never a blockbuster, but seemingly what I want in my glass.

Sunday hangout (Chicago, IL): Simultaneously very 2002 and Chandon de Briailles. The nose is mature and this shows some earthy notes alongside some plump fruit tones. On the palate, despite the implied breadth from the nose, this feels cool and lean, with a distinct stemmy note and more acidity than I would expect. Good, but for my taste, at peak. This doesn't seem to have much gas left in the tank.

Rather acidic with subdued dark fruit and a hint of tannin. Required 45 minutes in decanter for smoky, cherry flavor to emerge from an early tasting bite.

Sweet and candied fruit atop pine. Stems triumph over terroir here, as seems frequent for Chandon for me.... Not a bad wine, but doesn't blow my skirt up in the least.

Lovely fruit/acid balance, good tannins. Subtle and very pure lighter cherry notes, super and utterly characteristic burgundian nose. Young but not at all painfully so. Lovely traditional stuff.

Earlier bottle must have had a flaw as this was much better. Medium Red,decent burgundy nose with loads of barnyard, medium/light tannins with good fruit and lenth Now and for two years..

Light body, negligible almost metallic aroma. Everyone loves it... except me. Neither enough fruit or acid in the balance.

2002 Cote du Beaune Red Burgundies (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Cherries, cinnamon and minerals on the nose. Light to medium body, great acidity and minerality, hints of bacon, not a ton of fruit. Slightly tannic, not sure how much better this will get.
