This bottle was in great shape. It has that light color and body that the nearly perfect Romanee Conti of the same year had. This wine is a little bigger, and maybe a little darker, with big, clear, light red fruit, clove spice, and other spices and plenty of spine. This wine had a more wild side, maybe brambly, and a hint of sauvage! Awesome to drink this with my kids and enjoy the bottle over a few hours. Bottle # 000908

A really good bottle. Extracted the cork out in one piece. It had plenty of Hoisin and soy along with smoked meats on the nose. The palate had sweet vinous notes and lots of savoury nuance. It was silky with all structural elements tucked neatly away. It wasn’t particularly deep or long, but immensely satisfying.

Kelly, Kevin, RJ and Tom's excellent NYC adventure; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (New York City): Very little expectation as the 70 DRCs that I had thus far were not exceptional. John the sommelier smiles and mentions that this is one of the freshest mature DRCs the clients brought in. Perfectly mature Burgundy nose displaying decadent sweet red fruit, cranberry sauce, cherry, warm strawberry jam, smoke, a hint of soy, caramel, sous bois, iron and mineral. Fully mature palate, decadent mature sweet red fruit driven palate impression, very fluid, good acidity and a medium to long mature sweet red fruit and soy driven finish. Although the nose is a great example of the mature Burgundy, it slightly lacks the DRC signature Asian spices and oolong tea. The palate is slightly coarse. Nevertheless, a great example of perfectly mature GC Burgundy. I believe the groups second or third WOTN.

Drank at Home Isn't it wonderful when you open an old bottle of Burgundy and it beats all your expectations. There is nothing nicer in the wine world. This was incredible, somehow the fruit was still there although faded it had an amazing aroma of flowers in a meadow. Wonderful palate and a medium length. Now where do I find another perfectly stored bottle. hmmm

1970 DRC Horizontal...and Friends (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL): Nose was all secondary with a slightly odd vegetal element as well. Palate didn't have much fruit either, but na interesting earthy mushroom series of flavors. That same vegetal component cam through as well on the palate, I'm wondering if it is a remnant of stems that didn't work out so great in a challenging vintage.

End of the year with the "Usual Suspects" (Sips Restaurant in Southwest Harbor, ME): . FROM MAGNUM: Color: Rusted Ruby Smell: Underbrush, earth, hints of mushroom, and dried red fruits. Taste: A melange of tart red fruits, leather, dusty hints of seasoned or weathered cedar, and a linging hint of mushrooms intermixed with cranberries. Overall: Still such a pleasure to be able to taste this wine...it's been interesting to see this wine on three seperate occasions and track the changes that have occured over time. Now the tannins and acidity were more present than the previous time, with more dried fruits and a lightly austere edge to the wine...but still such a treat. We were all surprised after the wine was revealed.

FROM MAGNUM: This was much more of a faded ruby color than the last bottle I had from magnum during the summer. There were scents of earth, mushroom, rhubarb, wild strawberries, and old saddle leather on the nose. In the mouth the tannins were completely resolved and flavors of dusted earth, minerals, cranberries, and strawberries linger nicely on the palate through a medium length finish. The wine unfortunately fell apart after around an hour in the glass.

For any of you who have the opportunity this was a great experience. I was recently invited to taste through a collection of wines from a private seller. This was the crowning experience for me. Almost Orange in color this brick brownish-red burgundy was a virtual magnifying glass of clarity. Scents of roses, old sadle leather, and earth were the more promenent. It took some time to open up which actually surprised me. In the mouth obvious flavors of sour cherries & rhubarb dominated. It progressed and transformed well over the course of the 90 minutes we spent with this wine which leads me to believe that if anyone still has any of this out there it is still worth opening. While this wine will certainly not improve with time I'm lead to believe that it will still be good (in magnum)for another 2-5 years.

Wonderful dried rose and forest floor aromatics. Palate seriously faded without much sweetness left. (4275/18801)

Rusted pale ruby with rim variation.
Earthy, spicy, hint of redberries.
Soy source, vinegar, weakened tannin & structure.

Lighter than the 1980 alongside, more tart and less fine.
