Obviously an exciting opportunity to drink this wine but I have to admit it was a little tired. Was missing the freshness I would have expected to still be lingering. Dark yellow almost light orangey color. Buttered popcorn. But it wasn’t oxidized. Just not all there anymore. Almost tasted like a few drops of yquem was splashed in the bottle from the sugar.

Really good. Seemed to catch this bottle at the perfect time. Rich and deep without being at all heavy. Good pungency without being strong. Varied and complete set of palate notes. 96-97

World's Greatest - Night III (Per Se): [Magnum] Absolutely spectacular nose that has wilted white flowers and developed tropical fruit. The reduction and trace smoke is here in a subtle but pronounced way. White rubber. Really gorgeous bouquet. Rich and golden on the palate. Ripe and creamed.

Nineteen vintages of DRC Montrachet: The 1982 had a sophistication that's hard to articulate. A bit tough to appreciate at first but really opened up well.

Nothing lasts forever. That is sad to say as this bottle is so pricey today. Not oxidized, but clearly this was past its prime as most of what remained was the light, floral, citrus, lime and mineral nose. The wine was light and ending with tart, dry, chalky, lemon sensation. All things considered, I know this was an honor to taste. But it is, what it is... If you have a bottle and want to drink it, it's not going to get better from here.

One of the best bottles of my life to date. My goodness. So intense, you could have thought it was a red wine. So free and flowly, it was dancing on the tongue. At one point, 45 minutes or so after pouring, it exploded and all the marzipan butteriness come out profusely. Yet with control, confidence, and purpose. The table went silent and each diner looked at his glass, entering a trans / communion with the wine. One of those rare, quasi-religious experiences. Bravo!

Butterscotch, nuts, orchard fuits, lime, and popcorn here. Smoky minerals and more savory on the nose than previous offerings. A tremendous amount of palate presence here, almost grippy, and meaty if I have ever seen meatiness in a Chardonnay. A brilliant and mature wine that demands your focus. At its age, a totally different expression of the vineyard than the younger wines, that forces you to both think and passively enjoy its greatness. Would be great with food, and I love the savory flavors. Stylistically, I wonder if the ’96 will turn into this wine? 96pts

From magnum. Intense spice notes on the nose. Drier palate, but with great depth and pungency for an older white burgundy. 94-95
