The RSV was fully resolved (probably a little past peak if being honest) - pretty floral spice notes and red berry fruit on the nose - elegant and airy. The palate is fully integrated with soft gentle fruit, gentle earth rones, mild acidity. Dries out a touch on the finish as the fruit has seen slightly better days. But I'd say a success for 80s RSV.

As good a bottle of this as I have had in recent memory. Fully resolved palate with clear RSV character. Transparent red fruit with tea and soft spice notes. Hints of dry soil on the edges. Subtle but beautiful. Held up quite well over the course of an hour in the glass

2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): The first fully mature example. Exquisite nose displaying sweet candied red fruit, raspberry candy, a hint of delicate stewed tomato, beautiful sous bois, row shiitake, black truffle, smoked meat, light caramel, light soy and mineral. Perfectly integrated refined palate, beautiful subtle candied red fruit in the background, airy yet good intensity, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, no noticeable tannins and a long subtle candied red fruit driven finish with sous bois and soy at the end. It is delicate yet expressive and energetic. Some participants thought the 80 is a weak Burgundy vintage. It is simply wrong as it is perhaps the second best vintage of the 80s. A great example of perfectly mature wine of the domaine.

Bricked and unappetizingly muddy, but then wow floral spice very DRC nose. Pure candy, with density, complexity and length. If I had to pick a fault, there is a slightly stewed fruit hot vintage character to the palate but that's nitpicking. Excellent drink.

I gave this 95 points when I had it 2 years ago…it’s better now imo. Some browning on the edges. Autumnal, sous bois, beef brothy on nose. Silky, sweet palate. Mature with resolved tannins. Still good fruit. Long sweet finish. 97

Burgundy Producer Dinner (Bistro de l'Hotel - Beaune): Mature red fruit through with enticing spice, lots of earth, some faint hints of rot that Frederic Drouhin said are common in 1980s. Intriguing sweet notes also persisted that added charm. Nuanced and well textured, very interesting and good.

Loved this wine. Cherry fruit, ,some cola. A very expressive nose. Still good fruit on the palate. Tannins totally resolved. Silky with a nice long finish. A beautiful mature burg! 95 pts.

Light brownish translucent red in color, very showy nose right from the start, with prominent red floral notes, spices, strawberries and slightly gamey. Medium palate with decent complexity for the age, good finish. Slightly drying tannins after 2 hours so better enjoy this sooner than later

Impeccably well stored since 1986. Great fill. A really really knockout burgundy. All that exotic complex earthiness you find in DRC - pinot purity isn't the game. An immense mouthful with a very very long finish. Back then when I tasted the 80 85 88 and 90, I thought only the 85 better. Reminds me of why there is a reason DRC wines cost a fortune.

A great 1980, as many 80 DRC's are. #3 wine of the night in a great vertical of DRC RSV's. Soft, perfumed, understated - and simply a glass of pleasure. Very nice.

Lack the nuance of the '78 served alongside. Less expressive. Good but not great bottle. 91-92

Life ahead yet, but not quite at level of bottle last Dec. Felt slightly less focused and incisive. (1143/11400)

Now we’re talking! Really pretty red-fruited spice on the nose with a silky palate. This really blossomed in the glass and took on tons of spice!
