Second time I've had this wine and loved it both times…it certainly drinks better than it village status. Bery expressive complex nose of earth, souls bois, spice and dark fruits. Hint of tobacco. Rich, full, with great depth and length. Plenty of fruit on the palate. Lovely. 94 pts.
Another surprise in my mind given the village status. Every bit as good ( if not better) than the 1er crus IMO. Dark core. Notes of celery root, floral, mineral and some earthy notes on the nose. Medium weight with excellent balance.
Beautiful perfume, Vosne spice, lilacs. Beautuful balance, rich and with great texture. Excellent length and while mostly about elegance and spice, this had a nice fullness to it, and again the recurring theme of size without weight. Outstanding. 93 pts
When I smelled this wine, I howled like a werewolf in the middle of the crowded restaurant, I just couldn't help myself. When Leroy is on, she is ON, and this pristinely stored bottle was glorious. Youthful color, didn't note any fading at the edges -- this bottle had been bought on release and stored in a subterranean cellar. So soft and elegant with a finish that went on and on, so many beautiful, delicate spices. Absolutely glorious.
This (and all the other 1990 Leroy burgundies I have) showed some seepage at the cork, but I have tasted most of them when young and found no issues with the wine. Brickish color, the nose was earthy, but muted at first, and then evolved into strong cigar box / tobacco aromas. Not much fruit left and there was a high level of tartness at first. This evolved into a much smoother and more integrated wine after about an hour. Tasted mostly of plum with earth and loam in the background. Medium bodied with a very silky and enjoyable mouthfeel. It lacks complexity and depth of flavors, but what is there is nice. It will not improve - if you have some, I suggest you drink up.
had with george at joe's restaurant. shared a bit with a neighbor. the waiter was oblivious to what he was opening - think $8 bottle of shiraz. the wax was missing from the top of the bottle, but other wise in good condition. the corked pulled complete despite the inept effort of waiter. colored all the way through. the nose was immediate, rich and elegant. the taste was also elegant but lacked depth and finish - it was time to drink this wine.
