This was a last minute substitute for a wine to be taken to a tasting (the other was DOA upon opening). Deeply colored with paler outer edges; Vosne-like spices on the nose; open and elegant with some autumnal character just starting to emerge; went from pinched and a bit tough on opening to nice wine. Many years potential ahead.

Great showing once again; truffle, minty spice, game/blood, sous bois firewood mixed with aging red cherry fruit; cherries aged in brandy. A bit of onion jam with whiffs of manure come out with air time. Great personality with this wine seen in almost every vintage, young or old. Serious stuff. Noble earthiness in the best possible way, as this wine has poise and refinement as well.

Serious stuff! Second time tasting this beauty; spice box with mint, cedar chest, blood/game notes that become more pronounced with air time. This is starting to show the barest hints of forest wood and soil tones with iron-like minerality. Classic, with fresh acidity and firm but not rustic tannic structure. Very true to l’Enfant Jesus intensity and structure. No rush in drinking this but it certainly compelling now. 92-93.

Intense soil tones from the get-go; lots of game/earth infused aging cherry fruit with sous bois highlights, cabinet spices and various root vegetable influences including a tomato note that, at first, comes across at slightly stewed. Good power and punch to the flavors with great extract intact, showing lots of Beaune earth, bloody game, manure, etc. This really does come together and tasting it first out of a decanted bottle, doesn't quite do it justice. This still has upside potential! 92-93 today. Would love to follow this over the next 5+ years.

Brownish purple with clear rim; seemed fresh with strong black cherry notes with licorice accents. Very much falling off and fading after opened 5 hours. Pleasant but drink-up.

Opened by Allred at Anvil on his birthday. Another baby cheeses. There was actually fruit present, with cherry and an earthy funk. Paired very well with the duck confit.

Popped & poured with duck confit. Notes of black cherry, truffle and spice with forest floor and damp earth undertones. Light-bodied and balanced, featuring flavors of cherry, spice and mineral. Some dark fruit as it opens in the glass, along with a nice earthy quality on the finish. Drinking very well already and should hold for a few years at this level.

from magnum. Excellent freshness and taste of minerality and cherry red fruits. Excellent balance with medium long finish. Earthy notes and terroir feel. Nice wine.

Blood/brick red. Better after 12+ hour decant when drying tannins receded into background. Smooth but firm, medium bodied, hint of red fruit with earthy finish.

This has finally blossomed and is showing its promise from barrel, despite being slightly thin, it has delicious juicy red depth. Lovely balance and nice finish.

This benefited from a 2 hour decanting, and still was a bit tight at first but then opened up and picked up silky weight. It showed light to medium-weight, red berry and a touch of sourness to the fruit but in a good way. This will not make converts of the California Cab drinkers, as it is not a burly wine – but it is a very pleasing example of a well-made Beaune.

This started out a little musty/bretty on the nose but it was still a little cold from the cellar. For the first hour it was a little lean with dark fruits and a high level and acidic and tannic structure. When the when finally came up to temperature and opened up it was a beautiful, true Beaune wine. Lifted red fruit and spice in the nose, a medium-weight body that featured raspberries and sour cherry, a nice texture that had richness at the outset and some well-defined tannins at the end. This was just a lovely showing of this bottling and while it was clearly the third of the three wines it in no way lacked and was a pleasure to drink. Not wildly complex but excellent in every other regard.

Still needs more time or long decant. Medium deep burgundy color, with some bricking at edges. Medium bodied, mostly forest floor with some black cherry popping in and out. Dusty tannins after 30 minutes along with mushroom and beef. Should become silkier with 2-4 years.

Slight bricking at the edges. Wonderful aroma of pine and bright red fruit. On the palette, the fruit intesifies, but is balanced by well delineated structure. Slightest bitterness on the finish, but overall a lovely wine.

not sure this wine has the stuffing. fruit was lean, colour was light. while enjoyable, it did not have the mid palate density or the dry extract that leaves me wanting more... certainly not a bad wine. nicely balanced, but not overwhelming...

Light garnet in color, and had a very earthy, mushroom iodine nose. Bits of black cherry fruit played peek a boo here, but the dirt was the predominant feature. In the mouth the wine started out quite forceful but a big wave of tannin clamped down pretty quickly, making the mid-palate seem to disappear. I tried a little more from the leftovers tonight, and it was more open and giving. Overall I liked this a lot but it is way too young and shouldn't be opened for a while.

Decanted for several hours prior to tasting. Damp earth, forest floor nose, with red fruits and wood smoke. All of this carries through to the palate, which is quite silky but still shows some unresolved acids. Overall impression is that this wine is not at its peak yet. Pleasant to drink, but not fully ready yet. Check again in 2010.

medium garnet. Autumnal aromas of sous bois, leather, wood spice and roasted plums. Soft and velvety in the mouth with a really nice , earth and mineral flavors dominate with fully resloved tannins and a persistent finish.

Drank after pulling cork 5 hours earlier, but needs a 2-4 hour decant. Lots of depth but no charm. Too full bodied and austere for beaune.
