  • Tasted alongside the '98 Tofanelli, this was more red-fruited, with some dusty cranberry/pomegranate fruit, hints of orange peel and spice, on a medium- to full-bodied frame. Dark (but not saturated) purple color with little signs of age, this was still quite youthful, but with the rough edges of young zin smoothed out. A very tasty wine, although I did prefer the style of the Tofanelli

  • This still drinking well. Still a bit pricey and even sweet as one expects from Turley Zins. Just not really my favorite style. It is well made for the style, though probably too into the tertiary flavors for those who like this style.

  • More subdued and narrow nose of sweet red fruits—cherry and currants. The sweet is combined with some tartness on the palate – reminiscent of cooked cranberries, cherry, with some brown herb/wood notes. After a few hours, this is really smooth and drinking quite nicely. Not the power one gets with young Turleys, this has some laser-like cherry and tart currants, with some lovely acidity and a nice long finish. This is ready to drink now. I don’t think it will improve more, but who knows?

  • Look, we love Zin and are big fans of Turley, but if you are still holding on to a bottle of this, gift it or drink it. It has the intense fruit this wine is known for, you can still capture the pepper. It retains its body and you can catch a glimpse of its magic, but the truth is it hasn’t aged well. Or, it has drifted into the “echoes of a port” region. We tasted it because it was from our wedding year. But pass on this for something younger. As for my wife (who gets better with age), she would say “it tastes like a dried grape.”

  • Still drinking great. Dark purple, no bricking, stored at 55 degrees in my cellar. Cherry and plum, very ripe and peppery. It had a decent finish. Not as good as the Black Sears but still very enjoyable.

  • Drinking wel, on the fading side with a littlebrown edge inthe mouth feel but not in the glass. Had the 2000 today also and it stood out more. Drink them now if you have them.

  • Character is all I can say. We had this as the last bottle of the night. The other members of our dinner were new to Turley. I am a fan of Turley and was not let down, everything about the wine displayed character and a form of balance kind of Zen. Sorry for the pun but everyone thought it applied. The wine was jammy and ripe but not as near the edge as some other Turley’s, sweet alcohol but not at all hot, lots of plum and dark cherry. The nose was dark chocolate, cherry and a pleasant oat/yeast component. The color was dark purple and clear. I keep my cellars at 52 to 54 degrees and this may explain why I have not lost any of my Turley’s and they are drinking well all the way back to 1994. The age has brought these wines into a balance and it you get to try an older Turley that was well stored give it a try.

  • Has stood up well to the years. Zinfandel ages so differently than other varietals...it just mellows. It is fascinating to compare the term structure of Turley differentiated vineyards - vertically or horizontally. This was consumed solo, without reference: Browned slightly in color, solids on the bottle, jammy without the edge, nicely mellowed. Ripe. I always look forward to having a drive through Templeton to pick up another set.

  • A strong vibrant purple hue, and at first upon opening a strong hot nose that quickly smoothed out to reveal a rich sharp dark cherry infuence. Good grip and structure that still had a well defined balance. Not overly strong...more than ready to drink as the finish, while pleasant, was shorter than I am used to for Turley's Zins.

  • Another Turley powerhouse...dark hued purple with a strong plummy nose backed by dark cherries. The fruit was still strong on the palate, and not beat out by the alcohol, but I do wonder how much more time this has left. There was balance and long finish that didn't have record hang time, but lingered. The time for drinking is now as they may indeed hang on longer, but I don't know if they will get better.

  • Dark, heavily extracted. Lots of cherry and alcohol. A bit to hot? Needs spicy food!

  • Dark, rich and chocolately. A bit "port-like" and one dimensional, but fun.
