  • Decanted about 1 hour, soft elegant aromatics of floral and minerals, body quite thin, some bricking, very soft tannins. This bottle is likely past its peak but still a pleasure to drink.

  • Garnet red, started with smoky/peppery nose that developed more ripe strawberry, red rose, ripe vine tomato and molasses with time in the glass. Light body, with fine tannins and good balance. Surprisingly long length. Considering this is an off vintage, it gave considerable pleasure, and was a relative bargain. At its peak. Excellent, 89.

  • Opened five hours in advance and decanted. This was important, since the opening tastes were a bit green and herbacious. Five hours later the wine had rounded nicely - although it is still not a powerful wine, but the tannins had loosened their grip, and nice fruit, not jammy, but light red fruits, were present. Time to drink this up

  • Started off a bit rough with tail ends of plummy fruit hanging on a rough, floppy structure. Pulled together in the glass and even more after several hours in the bottle. Lovely pencil lead, tobacco and lined-out fruit. Nice depth and structure. Medium finish with persistent mineral/graphite and earth. Ended up a really pretty bottle of wine that way exceeded the vintage.

  • Better than our last bottle. Tobacco, earth, cassis & fruit. Seemed a little more mature than I expected. This bottle won't last as long as some (who have written notes). We got this from auction at Winebid.com. So might have had a storage issue

  • Wine to celebrate Jen becoming an ACM Fellow: Some red fruit, tobacco & tannins, but a little faded. Hope to have better luck with the next bottle.

  • This is a very, very good wine. It gets better with time, developing over an hour of decanting all of the heft of a California wine but with far more sophistication and nuance ... like a Cirque du Soleil on the palate, instead of a UFC cage match. Served with grilled lamb chops: what a treat! And this from a less-than-spectacular vintage ... can't wait to try my '00s and '01s.

  • Medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Developed, fresh, attractive nose showing tobacco, earth, some cassis and strawberry fruit. Medium bodied on the palate, quite fruity on the initial attack and then the developed flavours coming through again on the mid-palate, including tobacco and also distinct pessac baked earth notes. This has slightly chalky (but not unpleasant) tannins and nice fresh acidity and whilst not at all lean has a certain appetising austerity about it. The finish is medium/good length with an enjoyable, savoury character. Really very good indeed, such a shame they don't make this wine like this anymore.

  • Lovely wine; much more presence than expected. This was a fair amount better than a bottle we had a couple of years ago.
Saddle leather, bitter chocolate, and blackcurrant on nose and in mouth, with fairly complex layers and interplays. Long finish.
I don't score but this for me was a 90+ point bottle.

  • Green and unripe on the nose. Nice crisp fruit. Some grip. Interesting taste, can't quite place it but slightly peppery and spicy. Long. Not at all bad.
RJ's, London. Grand Vin in weak year v Second wine in good year offline.

  • An Eclectic Group of Cabernets: This was one of two French wines in a recent blind cab tasting. It was rated in the bottom half by our tasters causing quite a stir when the bags were pulled. I believe it was just starting to open and develop a full palate as the evening ended. In fact, I found it to be wonderful and fully developed the next morning after sitting open since midnight. Leather and mature fruit and spice with a wonderful fully developed palate and fine tannins to spare. Several of us were quite ashamed by our enchantment with its’ big fruity (and perhaps slutty) Italian competitor.

  • Das war ein geniales Erlebnis! Kuhstall pur in der Nase, stark, dicht, konzentriert im Gaumen, langer Abgang!

  • Deep ruby core, medium garnet/mahogany rim.
Medium intense nose, developed, initially showing blackcurrant and pencil lead, becoming increasingly tobaccoey with time with slight traces of smoke.
This is a medium bodied wine with medium soft, fine tanins and medium + acidity. There is reasonably concentrated savoury, elegant blackcurrant fruit with hints of tobacco leaf on the palate followed by a long savoury finish with lingering chalky and blackcurrant notes.
Overall a very nice wine, but lacking the depth and complexity to warrant a higher score. Drinking now, should be fine for another 2-3 years.

  • What you'd expect from a top wine in an off year. Very nice but not mind-blowing by any means. Somewhat austere, with lovely slate/stone hiding red fruit. I like the nose quite a bit - classic Graves, even if somewhat muted. Lovely wine that is drinking well right now.
