Nose: durian, cheese, pineapple, plastic, mango, pineapple Notes: with a nose full of tropical fruits, this Roulot is on the relatively lean and steely side in terms of palate. Not too impressive but it does feel quite young and seems to have a long road ahead of it. Was never a fan of Roulot as I feel their wines are good but always a little half baked because it's not the most fruity style nor the most round style or the steely style thus a bit of everything is like trying to please all palates which is am impossible job. This may not be a fair conclusion but it does seem like the situation to me. Drink: 2027+ Rating: 87

A little bit boring out of the bottle. Medium acidity, fruit is somewhat muted. Lovely balance and elegance, perhaps just slightly shut down at this stage?

A good bottle. Had bad luck / overblown / overripe example of 2015 last year but this was much fresher and cleaner. Bright green and yellow citrus. Still get these sense these don't have much life ahead. 92+

There is a gently exotic quality to this wine, think rockmelon and mango. The palate is buttery rich and layered. The finish has some candied peel and whilst acidity feel low, the wine is bright and energetic.

A smooth and even somewhat muted delivery at first pass, this Roulot requires a bit of coaxing to show its medium-intensity yellow citrus and wet limestone flavors. From nose to tail, the delivery is unchanged and stable. No real peaks and valleys, but instead a Steady Eddie performance that pairs nicely with fresh crab lasagna.
One thing that really stands out with the limited number of Roulots I've had is the impressive balance throughout execution. They are somewhat sneaky; I have to pay particular attention to a Roulot's posture and carriage or I'll miss how classy it presents.
For those holding bottles, and though this took a brief period of time to open up in the glass, I would recommend drinking this sooner than later. The intensity and freshness seems to be at their apex and don't show any indicators of ramping up in any way with time in bottle. Sure, you may start to get those deeper, more coppery tonalities down the line, but that's not especially my jam. Others' preferences may vary of course. If you're into the whole apple juice thing, hold for another decade; otherwise, I'd close this drinking window around 2026 (not 2035 as indicated here on Cellar Tracker).
This was a generous contribution from a friend. Any chance to sample Roulot is a good day.

A bit of a disaster week with these 2015 Roulots. Each of the Bouchères, Tessons, and Meix Chavaux showed something between extreme ripeness and undue oxidization. Minimal to no acid to speak of. I have not had this problem with Roulot before, although I do not have a ton of experience with 2015. Brought each of the Bouchères, Tessons, and Miex Chavaux to a different two or three star in NYC and had a discussion with the sommeliers as too what is going on here, as each example was unpleasantly round and undefined in a way that I have not found with these before. A little in the way of frosting / icing weighs in favour of oxidization issues and not solely overripeness. Have had plenty of these and will steer clear going forward.

Pommard, France. From the restaurant's wine list. Ridiculously good wine that benefitted from a short decant. A bit of citrus, stone fruits, white peaches. Interesting and complex. Kept evolving throughout the night.

A private lunch (Bistrot Le Bon Georges, Paris, France): Meix Chavaux 2015. Classical Roulot nose, many subtle nuances; effortlessly flowing palate, impeccable purity and balance, creamy lemon fruit and a hint of orange, remarkably elegant and fresh for a 2015, hint of spice from the delicately sweet oak; salty and energetic finish, very good length. A magisterial lieu-dit, at perfect peak today.

At first a slightly irritating nose of eucalyptus, quite herbaceous actually, borderline unpleasant with a bitterness in the mouth too (coming off a Keller AbtsE 15). Hmmm, decanted it for an hour. Clearly blew off but I couldn't help think that the bottle wasn't shining as brightly as it should. Based on this probably 88-89 after it blew off, would think there must be better bottles out there.

Still supremely youthful, tight and direct. There is pure white peach fruit and some rockmelon. It is fine and flinty, with good depth and lovely shape in the mouth. It finishes with outstanding cut and is persistent.

truly lovely bottle, not necessarily a long term ager, but this had really nice intense fruit (citrus), good acidity for balance (but already easy to take), lovely hints of minerals, and a hint of sweetness for balance... this is a voluptuous white burg but nonetheless with classic citrus profile... would drink in next 3-7 years... unfortunately I won't however -- I bought this in a restaurant in Spain for 140 euros (great QPR - even if in a store rather than restaurant), but came home to CA and find that lowest prices (worldwide and US respectively) are $270 and $290 a bottle... go figure

Possessing the sun-drenched quality of the vintage but cut with flinty minerals. It was ripe and round, with sappy stone fruits. There was some floral spice and flavours all draw into a single, chalky point at the end.

East Bay Burgundy Group - Holiday Dinner Party (Chez R&G): nose - smoke, reductive, not quite matchstick, but not far from. mouth - clean yet rich. pitfruit, touch of smoke. fleshy. much more open for business compared to the recently tasted '12 Roulot Meursault 1er Clos des Bouchères (madprops to PaulB). with an n=2 my conclusion is buy village to drink and higher tier to hold.

East Bay Burgundy Group - Holiday Dinner Party: I found this tasty but a little awkward at present, and it lacked the freshness and bracing yet direct personality of the 2014 I tasted recently in Madrid. If I had any bottles, I'd wait a couple of years before opening another.

Wines at Smaller Meals and Between Meals; 6/24/2018-7/5/2018 (Cote d'Or): Incredibly bright apple and lemon with floral start. Great nose, palate almost as good, just slightly less endearing. Very good energy, good weight and length for its level. Probably already close to its peak drinking window, best now through 2025.

Quite charming at this stage. Good volume and nice finish. Fruit forward in this year, bien sur, but typical notes too. Should be very good from now for 5+ years.

Intense citrus fruits on both the nose and in the mouth. There’s some candied peel flavour and good minerality. The finish has a lick of salt and a puff of chalk.

Phantastic wine, very powerful but still reluctant and balanced. Some popcorn but a lot of pink grapefruit. 96

A Few Miscellaneous Wines in Burgundy, Outside of Big Meals and Tastings; 6/21/2022-6/27/2022 (Burgundy): Wonderfully floral with ripe apple start-to-finish with lemon hints brightening the long finish. Even better now vs a few years ago.

Popped and poured, lemon, honey and spice on the nose. Light palate, medium acid, fairly juicy with a lemony, mouth puckering texture. Outstanding.

Very mineral driven. Steel, flint, dried apple. Bright acidity without tartness. Nice wine, but needs some age to gain weight.
