  • Pretty impressed with this wine. California profile but more refined than I expected. Unmistakable Syrah on the nose. Ready to drink but not in any danger of falling of a cliff from what I can tell. I bet this could go a few more years at least.

  • Deep violet color. Nose of blackberries and spice, with meaty undertones. Definitely CA syrah in profile. The palate is also dominated by the bottle-sweet fruit, but with adequate acidity to keep things fresh. Not a lot of oak showing at this point. Not complex, but very enjoyable.

  • Just a bit monodimensional and unbalanced. That said, great match for strong cheese and undoubtedly a great value.

  • Cali vs. Aussie Blind Syrah Tasting (Greenwood's): Cali vs. Aussie Syrah Blind Tasting - Bright purple color. Nose a bit mute at first, but began to show some oak and a little spice. Big rich fruit, with some white pepper and tobacco. Killer. Wine of the night!

  • I had been hanging onto this bottle for some time and it represents the first Novy I ever bought. Having found this wine in Wine Enthusiast @ 94 points three or so years ago, I contacted the winery, got on the mailing list and bought two and the wine has been cellared ever since. (And being the Novy pimp I am, my cellar now has over 50 bottles of Novy, from all different vintages and vineyards!) Opened this morning and set on the counter. Came back to a small pour off and I found a wine this is drinking pretty elegant. Of all the PNs I have had, this vintage has to be the lightest of all and the color shows it. Much lighter in red tone and smelling of a little pepper and game, and perhaps a touch of brett but it seems to add to the wine, as well. On the palate, I think red, red, red fruit, not the typical darker blacks I seem to usually find from this vineyard. Along with the cherry is some larger spicy fruit, anise and some toast. The oak is pretty well integrated and there is some acids left to keep it going. Will post a final note tomorrow, as this wine will stay open and breathing for tomorrow's Kings/Columbus game. (P.S. Having did the ’01 PN two weekends ago, what a different a vintage makes. The ’01 is huge, tight and needs to sleep).

  • Too much to say about this one. Dark, beautiful color. Nose is deep blackberry fruit with a hint of pepper and herbs. Mouthfeel is wonderful, with lots of blackberry and pepper again, with a hint of roasted meat. The beauty of this wine is it has a hint of sweetness and enough acidity to make it pair well with food, or to stand alone. Excellent wine!

  • Very nice Napa Syrah. I usually prefer cooler climate syrahs but this was very enjoyable. Upon opening the wine was very disjointed with dominating acidity and bright red cherry fruit which is not something I look for in syrah. However, I thought this wine would come around with air so I took my time with it. After only 30 minutes the wine started to take on an entirely different profile as the acidity began to recede into the background and the fruit began to take on a much darker profile with lush dark cherry and blackberry. The nose also became more floral with dark fruit tones. The wine was singing after being open 1.5 hours. On day 2 it was still drinking very well so I would guess with the acidity in this wine it should drink well and continue to improve for another 3-5 years. Sadly this was my last bottle but if you are going to open one in the near future I would recommend decanting for an hour. Another winner from Adam & Dianna. I am looking forward to the '02 version.

  • Novy & Siduri Tasting: Best nose yet - Cinnamon, liqueur, alcohol, caramel. Somewhat better balanced and not as hot on the finish.
