Wine Ark lunch…semi-St.Estephe (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point): Apricot, touch of lychee, animal/musky notes and sweet spice on the nose. I the mouth it's juicy, fresh, savoury, slightly bitter with alcohol warmth, savoury with poached apricot and lychee. Very long finish. With time (we also decanted this) it starts to show a lovely toasted apricot note. Lovely. Exceedingly impressive.

At Beddington AMS. Yellow straw colour. Heavy sweet fruits in the nose with nuts and fresh pineapple. Full in the mouth, complex, nice minerality. Long and spicy finish.

YES->NO. This baby is close to death as suggested by drink dates. It almost seemed to wilt in the glasss. Out of the bottle, zesty and quite a good White. You could sense that condieu thing, but I must admit the best vigonier I have had recently has been from Oz (virigilus).

Quite enjoyed this. Textured palate and well integrated oak and acidity with a mature profile. I thought it was showing as well as a white Burgundy of the same age and relative quality.

Not as pretty as I would have expected from Condrieu... rather tight at first with some anise - slowly opened up over the evening & became rather enjoyable... very tactile. Price of admission was a bit high.

Seattle Tasting Group does Beaucastel (Issaquah, WA): Big aromatics with apricot, white flower and smoke bursting from the glass. The palate is peppery and spicy, lush, although this seems to be a little past peak compared to a taste about 15 months ago.

Still vibrant and tasty, in an more exotic oaked style. A food wine. A small amount was left in the bottle at the end of the evening, uncorked, and was not oxidized or anything the next day.

VERY COMPLEX FOR A VIOGNIER SHOWING A LOT OF DIFFERENT NUANCES IN THE FLAVOR AND NOSE, PEACHES, BERRIES, WOOD, AND A LITTLE FLORAL. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.

Consumed during a tasting menu at Bona Terra, Sharpsburg, PA. On the nose, honeysuckle in full bloom. Pale gold in the glass. On the palate, equal parts of honeysuckle and smoke, with a silkiness on the palate reminiscent of a top-notch Sauternes, if not quite as unctuous. This white is well suited for just about any seafood course, and I can't imagine it getting any better than it is right now. Drink up...

This wine was disappointing at first, it had a strange fragrance and tasted rather flat, but once it opened it began to remind me of standing next to a honeysuckle bush. It was filled with flavors of pear, apple, and a whiff of peach. The palate was long and luscious. For most of the time the acid was perfectly balanced, but by the last glass it started to become dominant. I wish that I had this wine while it was younger.

Seattle Tasting Group does older Northern Rhône reds (Bellevue, WA, USA): My wine. This was *much* better than a bottle enjoyed just over a year ago. The nose is smoky, spicy, tropical, floral and insanely ripe. Over time the smoke integrates considerably. The palate is explosive with a remarkable lush texture, yet this remains very fresh and exotic. The finish is long and spicy with copious notes of nutmeg. Fantastic bottle!

Seattle Tasting Group does Northern Rhône (Bellevue, WA, USA): This was my contribution to the white wine flight. It boasted a deeper, more golden color in the glass, clearly showing some wood treatment. The nose again shows wood but also with an exotic, explosive nose of apricot, coconut, and a variety of other tropical stuff. It had a big, spicy finish and lush mouthfeel, the best of the bunch. I scored it a 90, and the group average was 90.375. White wine of the night!

Christmas lunch with the wine ark boys (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point): Apricot, honey, truffle, slightly dill note. Same on the palate with that dill note a little more pronounced, textured mid palate, this one is a little soft for me - though that may be the contrast with the Vouvray.
